Days passed swiftly in the busyness, and in the blink of an eye, it was February 12th—two days before Li Si and Leng Mochen’s engagent.
Li Si drove to the airport to pick up Bai Shasha. She was genuinely thrilled about her arrival.
Although it had only been a bit over a month since they last saw each other, the two of them felt as if they’d been apart for years! After an enthusiastic hug and so mutual teasing, when Bai Shasha saw Li Si leading her to a red sports car, she was so shocked her jaw almost dropped. She stared at Li Si in utter disbelief.
"Oh my god! Si, don’t scare —don’t tell this car is yours!"
"Mhm! It’s mine!" Li Si deliberately crossed her arms in a proud stance, lifting her chin and flicking her hair.
Bai Shasha gave her arm a hard slap. "Oh my god! Rich woman alert!"
She proceeded to circle around the car, her excitent evident, inspecting it thoroughly from top to bottom. "Si, how much is this car? Did Brother Leng buy it for you?"
"About four million, I think! But he didn’t buy it—he won it in a poker ga with his buddies!" Li Si grabbed Bai Shasha, who was still circling the car excitedly, and raised an eyebrow. "Want to take it for a spin?"
"Who’s the idiot who lost such a good car? They must be regretting it to death! As for taking a spin? Do you even need to ask? Of course! Let’s go!" Bai Shasha bounced into the passenger seat, full of enthusiasm.
Li Si slid into the driver’s seat. As she recalled Xu Er’s deliberately pained expression from losing the car, she couldn’t help but chuckle and shake her head. "Regret for sure! Buckle up!"
As soon as she finished speaking, she started the car and sped off toward ho.
Throughout the ride, Bai Shasha couldn’t stop exclaiming, "Lucky I ca by myself at this ti—Jiang Fan is coming from Sanya tomorrow. If we’d arrived together, this car wouldn’t fit all of us!"
"Exactly!" Li Si had specifically driven over herself just to pick up Bai Shasha alone.
"Rich lady, let ask you—would this count as marrying into a wealthy family?"
"I guess it counts!" Li Si focused intensely on the road conditions. The traffic was heavy today, and she was driving carefully.
Bai Shasha kept touching this and that inside the car. As her excitent gradually cald down, a thought struck her. "Si, about your engagent—have the troublemakers from your grandma’s side of the family found out?"
Li Si shook her head. "I haven’t planned on telling them. I don’t want to have anything to do with them in the future!"
"Exactly! Those people practically don’t spit out the bones when they bite! It’s best not to have any contact. If they found out, and saw the wealthy family you’re marrying into now, who knows what embarrassing antics they might pull!" Bai Shasha imagined the scenes in her head and felt utterly disgusted by the Li Family.
"By the way, how are things going between you and Cao Yufan?" Li Si seized the mont at a red light to clasp her warm little hand and ask.
"Sa as usual. Si, I’m planning to look for internships this sumr, preferably in Beijing. That way, we can et up often!" Bai Shasha’s eyes were brimming with hope for the future.
"That’s great! Sounds solid!"
Li Si enthusiastically hugged her. Once Shasha was in Beijing, things would be much better. Li Si felt like she didn’t have enough friends around her nowadays; apart from Su ng and Leng Ning, she didn’t have many close female friends to hang out with. Sotis she didn’t even know who to ask out for a shopping trip.
"Get lost! You’re being way too cheesy!" Bai Shasha, sensing Li Si’s excitent, deliberately shoved her aside. "If people outside saw us hugging like this, they might think we’re...you know!"
Li Si stuck out her tongue, glancing left and right nervously while muttering, "No way!" She had acted impulsively and shown a bit of affection—surely they hadn’t been seen at just the right mont, had they?
Bai Shasha burst into laughter. "You’re still so easy to fool!"
Li Si shot her a playful glare. The cars ahead began moving, so she quickly followed suit.
After a brief silence, Li Si suddenly asked, "Shasha—when you intern here, will Cao Yufan co too?"
Bai Shasha’s expression beca a little uneasy. "Him? Who knows if he’ll co or not! Anyway, I’m definitely coming, and I’ve already discussed it with my parents. Knowing you’re here makes them feel a lot more at ease!"
Li Si noticed sothing off. "You two aren’t having so kind of conflict, are you?" This didn’t seem like Bai Shasha’s usual behavior—she’d always resisted the idea of being in a long-distance relationship with Cao Yufan.
"It’s just so minor conflict! Si, your engagent is the day after tomorrow—I don’t want to talk about this and make you worry over it!" A hint of lancholy flashed across Bai Shasha’s face.
Li Si glanced at the store fronts along the roadside and pulled the car up to a barbecue shop.
"Why are you stopping here?" Bai Shasha had thought they were heading to Li Si’s house, but seeing the car stop here brought tears to her eyes.
Li Si earnestly grabbed her hand. "Shasha, we’re best friends. If you’re bottling sothing up inside, it’s so uncomfortable—why not share it with , your trusty listener?"
"Fine! Honestly, I’ve missed you so much!" Bai Shasha’s furrowed brows finally relaxed.
" too, Shasha!" After saying that, Li Si got out of the car and walked to Bai Shasha’s side. "Let’s go inside, pick a spot, and talk while we eat!"
"Alright!" Bai Shasha composed herself, smiled, and linked arms with her as they entered the shop.
This barbecue shop was quite large. Li Si had casually chosen the place, thinking there wouldn’t be many people, but upon entering the hall, she realized even the small private rooms were occupied, so they ended up sitting in the corner of the main hall.
Luckily, the spot was tucked away in the innermost corner, shielded by surrounding green potted plants, making it feel almost like a private space.
After placing their order, Li Si rubbed the surface of her transparent drink cup, hesitantly looking at the absent-minded Bai Shasha.
Bai Shasha seed to snap out of her thoughts. She smiled at Li Si and said, "What’s with the worried face? Don’t look at like that, alright? Si—it’s actually no big deal! Do you still rember ng Xi?"
"How could I forget! I’m not senile!" Li Si deliberately rolled her eyes. "Don’t tell she did sothing that caused problems between you and Cao Yufan?"
Bai Shasha raised her thumb. "You guessed it! On New Year’s Eve, didn’t I go out with Cao Yufan? I didn’t notice anything then. But a few days ago, their basketball team had a gathering—my family happened to have visitors that day, so I didn’t go.
Later on, I accidentally saw photos on his phone that included ng Xi. Everyone else either went alone, or brought their girlfriends if they did bring soone. But why did he have a close photo with ng Xi? What’s up with that?"
Li Si thought for a mont and asked, "A single photo doesn’t necessarily an much—what did Cao Yufan say?"
Bai Shasha snorted coldly. "Him? What could he say? He tried to pacify by explaining that he didn’t even know how ng Xi showed up there. Apparently, ng Xi had taken photos with everyone, and when it was his turn, as a guy, he felt it would’ve been awkward to refuse!"
"That does sound plausible—Cao Yufan does care a lot about saving face."
"If it were just that, I wouldn’t be this upset. But then I logged into his Q account—I guessed his password and got it right. That’s how I found their chat history. Honestly, I felt it was pretty ambiguous. When I confronted him, he got angry and accused of invading his privacy. Later, he claid it was just casual conversation between friends and that I was making a big deal out of nothing..."
Skewers of at, tendon, hearts, and chicken wings started arriving at this point, interrupting Bai Shasha’s story.
Feeling bad for her, Li Si picked up a chicken wing and handed it to her. "Let’s eat while we chat!"
Bai Shasha took it but only nibbled a tiny bite before putting it back down. She looked up at Li Si and said, "Si, how can n be so hypocritical? I used to believe we’d be happy together—that we’d get engaged, graduate, and be one of those couples who marry after college. Wouldn’t that have been nice?
But who could’ve guessed he’d turn out like this? If we really entered into marriage, who knows what he might beco! I never doubted him before—I trusted him so much. This is the first ti I’ve ever checked his ssages!" (To be continued. If you like this story, please visit Qidian (qidian) to vote for it or give monthly tickets.
