Yin Qi curled her lips slightly: "Not bad! Li Si, you’ve gotten prettier! What brings you to the capital?"
"I’ll be studying here from now on. How’s Aunt Han’s health?" Li Si felt sothing was off. Yin Qi used to have a calm exterior with a subtle air of arrogance beneath it, but now her gaze carried a hint of scrutiny.
"She’s doing well! She’s here too! Li Si, do you know what kind of banquet this is today?" Yin Qi hesitated and then decided to ask outright. In her impression, although Li Si ca from a modest background, she was a decent person. Today was her younger brother’s engagent party, and she didn’t want any discord to arise.
Li Si asked curiously, "What kind of banquet?" She’d only overheard Mrs. Leng ntion that it was hosted by a friend who had dealings with Mo Chen’s father!
"Today is my younger brother Xiao Xian and Weiwei’s engagent banquet! Why are you here? What’s your intention?" Ye Duowei had complained to her in private, claiming that Li Si must have used so kind of trick. Xiao Xian seed to have feelings for her that were out of the ordinary. Although Ye Duowei had thought there might be so misunderstanding, her brother truly wasn’t the sa as before. Seeing Li Si appear at the banquet today only solidified her suspicions.
Li Si froze completely upon hearing this, followed by a surge of anger. She hadn’t even settled the scores with Ye Duowei and Tian Yaru for twisting facts, and now she’d coincidentally stumbled into this engagent banquet? What a cosmic joke—more like a cursed coincidence!
But why were there no pictures of the couple or signs indicating who was engaged at this banquet?
Yin Qi didn’t miss a single shift in her expression, becoming even more convinced that her suspicions were correct.
With a mocking tone, she said, "Li Si, I advise you not to pull any stunts. Everyone here today is soone of status. If things blow up, I doubt you’ll be able to handle the consequences. Out of respect for the help you’ve given in the past, leave now! Since Xiao Xian has decided to get engaged to Weiwei, there’s no chance for you to get involved again!"
Li Si gazed at her coldly, letting out a sneer: "You’re really sothing. I have a boyfriend—when would I have had anything to do with your brother Yin Xian? You’re overthinking things, aren’t you? And even if this is their engagent party, what gives you the right to tell to leave? Since I’m here, I’ll stay and have a good look at how Ye-Dramatics gets engaged!"
Li Si found the situation absurd. Was her brother Yin Xian made of honey? Did every woman have to act like Xiong Er, throwing herself at him? Compared to her Mo Chen, Yin Xian couldn’t even asure up to a single finger!
And upon hearing Ye Duowei was getting engaged, Li Si imdiately thought of Tian Yaruo—of course, she’d show up for her beloved niece’s big day. She wasn’t like Li Si, a neglected biological daughter, to be treated so carelessly!
Yin Qi’s expression darkened drastically. She hadn’t expected Li Si to beco this assertive—her impression of her was still that of a smiley, easygoing girl.
"Li Si! I never thought you’d turn out like this! Listen, we’re all won here, and I’m older than you, so let give you so advice: not all n disregard family background. You should asure your worth and see if you’re a match for our family! Weiwei’s family background is sothing you could never hope to compete with. Wake up! If you insist on continuing like this, I’ll have to call security!"
Yin Qi eyed her disdainfully. She hadn’t looked closely before, but now she noticed that Li Si was dressed head to toe in brand-new designer fashion. It was unclear whether they were rented or borrowed! Clearly, she had gone to great lengths to sneak in, but all that effort was destined to be in vain—there was no way her family would ever accept her!
Li Si was so infuriated, she found it amusing. How did this person’s brain even function? Why hadn’t she noticed before that Yin Qi’s imagination was so wild?
"Let give you so advice, too: don’t think you’re always above everyone else. Even in my next lifeti, I wouldn’t be interested in your brother! And looking back, despite sticking my nose where it didn’t belong and saving your family’s Beibei, I don’t regret it.
But I do regret ever eting you in the first place! I already said, I’m here with an elder—and that elder happens to be my boyfriend’s mother! Got it now? I don’t have the ti to deal with you and your clown antics. Step aside!"
With that, she forcefully pushed past Yin Qi, turning to leave.
Yin Qi’s face twisted as she stared at her retreating figure. Embarrassnt and rage filled her heart, but doubts began creeping in—could she really have been wrong?
Still uneasy, she quietly followed. The mont she saw Li Si chatting warmly with Mrs. Leng and standing beside her, she was utterly petrified!
Others might not recognize Mrs. Leng, but Yin Qi certainly did. Back in the day, her good friend Qian Rouxuan had dated that Young Master Leng, and everyone in their circle had been envious!
Young Master Leng not only ca from an influential family but was also handso, wealthy, and humorous—and he treated her exceptionally well! And then there was that friend of Young Master Leng’s, who was like a celestial being. How could that woman dare to match herself to him? In the end, didn’t it all...
Nobody knew what had happened afterward. Qian Rouxuan had suddenly disappeared, and Young Master Leng searched for her for years, which everyone knew about. How could this be? How could Li Si be connected to Young Master Leng? She wasn’t worthy. This had to be fake—it had to be!
Yin Qi braced herself with so ntal gymnastics, which seed to have worked. She regained her poised and sophisticated deanor, approaching gracefully to ask, "Hello, Mrs. Leng. Do you know the girl standing next to you?"
Li Si could barely stop herself from knocking on Yin Qi’s forehead to see how it was wired. Was this woman possessed today? She hadn’t behaved like this during the few tis they’d t before!
Was this so kind of audacious confirmation? Did she think that if Mrs. Leng denied knowing her, she could imdiately call security and stage a scene of kicking her out of the banquet?
Mrs. Leng was montarily stunned but replied politely, "She’s my daughter-in-law. Why do you ask?" She glanced at Yin Qi curiously. The woman was decent-looking but lost points for the bloodshot eyes.
Yin Qi nearly clenched her molars to the point of breaking to suppress her urge to scream. How could Young Master Leng possibly favor soone like Li Si? They were leagues apart!
Li Si’s mocking gaze captured Yin Qi’s flustered state, secretly enjoying the ntal image of her taphorical slap in the face.
Yin Qi cast one last resentful look at Li Si before turning on her heel and leaving. Mrs. Leng, finding the encounter bewildering, asked Li Si, "Who was that? Is she unwell?"
For the first ti, Li Si felt an imnse fondness for Mrs. Leng, resisting the urge to kiss her. She was spot on—unwell indeed! ntally ill, to be exact! A delusional narcissist who seed to think the world revolved around her family.
But in front of her future mother-in-law, Li Si suppressed the ridiculous thoughts in her mind and played the role of the obedient future daughter-in-law. "Who knows? Maybe sothing’s triggered her."
Mrs. Leng nodded in agreent. "Looks like it! Li Si, I ran into Mrs. Yan earlier and just found out the engagent is for her niece. Isn’t that a coincidence? She was looking for you earlier—did you see her?"
Li Si lowered her eyes, concealing the complicated emotions within, and replied nonchalantly, "What a coincidence! But no, I didn’t see her."
At this mont, a voice resounded from the stage. Li Si looked up to see a middle-aged man, dressed in a dark suit with slicked-back hair, holding a microphone: "Everyone, may I have your attention for a mont? Thank you all for coming to my daughter Weiwei’s engagent banquet! My deepest gratitude to you all. I’d also like to formally announce that the Ye Family and the Yin Family’s collaboration begins today! From now on..."
A wave of applause erupted from the audience. Mrs. Leng, standing nearby, helpfully explained, "That’s Ye Cheng. He has so connections with Mo Chen’s father."
Li Si nodded—so this was Ye Duowei’s father. What a tangled web of relationships!
