Song Lianhe had already summoned Xuan i, ready to head to the Prince Qing Mansion to see Zhou Cangyan.
But as soon as she stepped out the back door of her clinic, she was stopped by a carriage.
Xuan i took one look, stepped back, and whispered in Song Lianhe’s ear, "That’s a carriage from the Ministry of Imperial Stables."
’So what?’ Song Lianhe was confused.
"Those are the Royal Family’s carriages."
Song Lianhe froze. ’I was just summoned by Consort Jing. And now this again?’
Just then, a palace attendant stepped forward and bowed. "By order of the Empress, I am here to escort the Second Miss Song to the palace."
Summoned to the palace for the second ti in a single day, Song Lianhe sat in the carriage, exhaustedly rubbing her temples.
’Why on earth would the Empress summon ?’
’It couldn’t be...’
Song Lianhe suddenly realized. The "prescription" she had given Consort Jing involved her and the Holy Emperor... going at it... over and over again...
’But the Holy Emperor isn’t just Consort Jing’s husband; he’s the Empress’s husband too! This is the sa as helping another woman snatch away her husband. No matter how magnanimous the Empress is, she would never forgive for this!’
’Oh, Song Lianhe, how could you be so stupid?!’
Song Lianhe was so disgusted with herself she could die. She balled her hands into fists and thumped her own head in frustration.
Rain began to fall outside, steadily growing heavier. The carriage wheels rolled through puddles, sending up little splashes of water.
Inside, Song Lianhe was swaying with the carriage’s movent, nearly dozing off. Suddenly, the door was pulled open. A dark figure leaped into the moving carriage and sat down beside her, bringing with him a gust of damp, biting cold.
Song Lianhe stared blankly at the man beside her. "Your Highness?"
Zhou Cangyan turned his head to glance at her, then smoothly plucked the handkerchief from her waist and wiped his handso, rain-splattered face.
Song Lianhe continued to stare, her eyes fixed on him. There was sothing incredible about this man; he always appeared in the most peculiar ways when she least expected him.
As her head cleared, she quickly ca to her senses and urgently grabbed his arm. "Your Highness! What about the annulnt? Did the Holy Emperor agree?"
Zhou Cangyan lowered his eyes, his gaze falling upon her hand. Her fingers were long and slender, her skin so fair it was almost blinding.
He looked away, his pale, crystalline eyes narrowing as if to conceal the dangerous flas flickering within them.
Instead of answering, he asked, "Do you truly not want to marry Ziyin, or are you just using this to force him to choose between you and Song Xilan?"
Song Lianhe narrowed her beautiful eyes suspiciously. "Have I not been clear enough? I want to annul the engagent! Annul it! I don’t want anything to do with that man ever again. I just want to be fabulous on my own!"
The man watched her quietly, his discerning eyes as sharp as a blade.
After a mont, he lowered his gaze, his cold, indifferent deanor returning. "It’s all been taken care of."
"What’s been taken care of?"
Song Lianhe’s heart skipped a beat, unsure if it ant what she thought it ant.
"You no longer have to marry Prince Ling."
"R-Really?"
Song Lianhe was overjoyed, and she happily threw her arms around him in a hug. "Thank you! Thank you, thank you!"
She was so happy, she didn’t even care who she was hugging.
’I’m free!’
’Finally, I’m free!’
’Getting away from Zhou Junlin ans I don’t have to follow the plot of the original story anymore. None of those horrible things will happen to now!’
Zhou Cangyan’s body stiffened. His senses were filled with her faint, distracting fragrance.
He narrowed his eyes, suddenly grabbing her by the collar and flinging her to the side. "Insolent!"
Song Lianhe was dazed by the shove, staring at him with wide, innocent, and bewildered eyes.
Zhou Cangyan clearly froze as well, his expression instantly turning gloomy and icy. The hand that had just grabbed her clenched into a tight fist.
Song Lianhe wasn’t angry. She simply smiled and said in a good-natured tone, "I was just so overco with joy I forgot myself. Your Highness, you’re not really going to be angry with , are you?"
At her words, Zhou Cangyan’s expression grew even darker.
’I just pushed her away...’
’And so forcefully...’
His gaze swept over her abdon. Though the matter of heirs was not sothing he particularly cared about, the thought that his action might have injured her made him inexplicably agitated.
Song Lianhe acted as if nothing had happened, cheerfully continuing to press him. "Your Highness, how did you persuade the Holy Emperor? You truly are the Holy Emperor’s most valued younger brother! The mont you get involved, all problems simply lt away!"
The expression on Zhou Cangyan’s face remained unpleasant. He simply closed his eyes to rest, ignoring her completely.
Song Lianhe wasn’t bothered.
’He’s the villain, after all!’
’Can’t a guy have a bit of a temper?’
