Her back throbbed with pain from the impact.
She looked up, her eyes wide with shock at the person before her.
He had appeared out of nowhere again. ’This scene feels so familiar.’
The man had a slender build, standing as tall and proud as a solitary pine. Song Lianhe had to tilt her head all the way back just to et his gaze.
His eyes were a pale, light brown that glinted with an uncanny gold in the sunlight. To be stared at by him was to feel like you were being pulled into a deep-sea vortex.
Her heart began to pound. Staring up at him, she felt herself becoming truly intoxicated by this man. ’He’s all I can think about, all I can see!’
Zhou Cangyan’s face and eyes remained cold, his gaze landing on her with a chilling, hostile aura.
His indifferent gaze slowly traveled from her enchanting eyes, down to her delicate, upturned nose, and finally rested on her rosy lips...
’Zhou Junlin’s guard was right,’ he thought. ’She really is...’
’A siren.’
While Song Lianhe was still lost in the man’s handso features, a large hand suddenly clamped around the back of her neck. He yanked her forward, bringing her face-to-face with him.
"Have I not told you? You are forbidden from seducing him."
His fingers were incredibly strong, like iron pincers that could snap her neck at any mont!
Song Lianhe winced in pain and glared at him. "You’re hurting !"
Zhou Cangyan raised an eyebrow.
’Feisty, isn’t she.’
He stared at her for a mont longer before finally releasing his grip.
Song Lianhe was fuming. ’Whenever he cos looking for , it’s always because of Song Xilan!’
’What kind of cursed fate is this?’
She planted her hands on her hips, unafraid. Tilting her head, she sneered at him. "Just because you say so? Who do you think you are to ? Why should I listen to you?"
Zhou Cangyan coldly observed her thuggish, street-rat-like deanor.
"Move." She waved her hand as if shooing away a fly.
As she tried to pass, he suddenly shot out an arm, planting his hand on the wall to block her path, not even bothering to look at her.
Song Lianhe raised a delicate eyebrow, glanced at him expressionlessly, and then bent down to duck under his arm.
’Be flexible.’ That was her motto.
But before she could make it through, she was grabbed by the collar and hauled back.
The next instant, she was thrown against the wall.
HISS—
Her shoulder slamd hard against it. Song Lianhe clutched her arm and crouched down in pain.
"...That’s the second ti. This is the second ti."
She swore an oath in her heart: ’Zhou Cangyan, just you wait. The day will co when you’ll be the one crying!’
The man looked down on her with cold eyes, showing not a shred of compassion.
Song Lianhe struggled to look up at him, then suddenly lunged forward, latched onto his arm, and bit down—
She was so furious she wanted to resolve this with the most savage ans possible!
The man lifted his arm and glanced at the woman who was clinging to it and refused to let go. It was as if the pain she inflicted was no different from a tickle to him. His voice held a hint of impatience. "Open your mouth."
"...Nn-mmph!"
’I won’t!’
’Always being tossed or thrown around by him... I’ve had enough of this wretched life!’
Zhou Cangyan looked down at her as if she were a crazed kitten.
In truth, he could have broken free with just a slight surge of Inner Strength, but she would have inevitably been badly injured.
Song Xilan’s poison had only been temporarily neutralized; the future was uncertain. Therefore, nothing could happen to this woman yet.
He glanced at her again, then reached out his other hand, placed it directly on her forehead, and with a smack, shoved her a few steps back.
Song Lianhe stumbled backward, her body hitting a table, which was the only thing that kept her from falling. She stared at him, helpless and dazed, her gaze filled with disbelief and hurt...
Zhou Cangyan frowned.
’Why is she looking at with that expression again?’
"You... you hit ... You hit so hard..."
Her eyes reddened, and she sniffled. "I don’t know how much longer I can hold on... and you still hit ?!"
Zhou Cangyan stood where he was, watching her coldly.
Song Lianhe’s lips turned down again as tears began to fall, PLIP PLOP. She angrily raised a hand to wipe them away.
’Zhou Cangyan, you’re really sothing else!’
’I’ve cried more in the past few days than in the last twenty-odd years of my life combined!’
Zhou Cangyan truly disliked won’s tears, especially since the one before him seed to have an endless supply. They just kept falling, and she was even starting to sob.
He couldn’t help but frown at the sight.
Just then, however, she slowly shuffled toward him.
He didn’t move. ’Let’s see what she’s planning to do now.’
Song Lianhe ca to a stop in front of him. Her forehead was an angry red patch—partly from the stone Yin Huan had thrown at her earlier, and partly from the hard shove he had just given her. It was already swelling up high, making her look like a Longevity God statue. It was both ridiculous and... pitiable.
Song Lianhe knew she must look a ss, so she kept her head down. Reaching him, she quietly put out a hand, carefully tugged on the corner of his sleeve, and gave it a little shake.
"Don’t be so an to , okay?"
Zhou Cangyan remained standing there, his expression indifferent.
"I’m afraid that when you rember all this soday, you’ll be full of regret and sorrow."
Seeing her speak with such certainty, the man paused. His gaze fell on her tear-soaked eyelashes, and he slowly raised his hand...
...and pulled his sleeve from her grasp.
It was as if her touch was sothing utterly unacceptable to him.
Song Lianhe bit her lip. She wanted to hold back, but her heart ached terribly.
She looked up again, glaring at him in fury, and then did sothing that shocked even herself—
She stood on her tiptoes and abruptly kissed him on the lips...
The mont her soft lips touched his, Zhou Cangyan froze completely.
Imdiately, a violent rage surged through him, a fury so palpable it seed poised to tear the world apart in the next instant!
Zhou Cangyan raised his hand to blast her away with a palm strike, but to his surprise, Song Lianhe didn’t linger. The mont the kiss was over, she ran!
She ran all the way to the opposite corner of the wall. Her voice trembled, but she still shouted defiantly, "Even if I can’t have your heart, I will have... have you! It’ll be worth it even if I die!"
’Otherwise, I’d be at such a loss!’
Zhou Cangyan’s lips curled into a smile so sinister and eerie it could rival that of a demonic Asura.
"In that case, I will grant you your wish."
Song Lianhe couldn’t even see how he moved. In a flash, he was before her, his hand suddenly raised—
She squeezed her eyes shut in fear, but still stuck out her neck, pushing it stubbornly toward him. Her defiant voice was laced with tears. "Go on, kill ! Just kill and get it over with! You’ll be the one heartbroken in the end anyway! I won’t even have to co back as a ghost to haunt you; you’ll avenge yourself!"
After waiting for a long mont, there was still no movent from him.
She peeked an eye open and instantly t his gaze. His glass-like eyes seed to hold two shards of frigid ice, cold and sharp.
Song Lianhe knew when to quit while she was ahead. Since he hadn’t actually killed her, she wasn’t stupid enough to volunteer for it.
Seeing her fall silent like a pouting child, the man’s deep eyes took on a faintly bewildered glimr.
After a long ti, he finally spoke in a cold voice, "I don’t recall ever taking a wife. Why would even Prince Ling seek justice on your behalf?"
Song Lianhe’s heart skipped a beat. "Ah, that..." Her panicked gaze darted around. "It’s actually just a misunderstanding."
"Hah. So you are lying! Truly cunning and treacherous, spouting whatever nonsense you please!" Zhou Cangyan sneered, staring her down as he slowly advanced. "What exactly are you and Zhou Junlin plotting?"
