Chapter 696: Chapter 709: Registration
Lu Jiaxin used to watch TV where the male lead secretly arranged a proposal scene, and the female lead was moved to tears before accepting the proposal amidst cheers. Well, when it ca to her turn, she didn’t feel excited or tearful; she just felt very assured.
There were cheers around her, and soone even whistled for fun. Only Qian Xiaoxiao muttered on the way back, complaining that this kind of proposal was unoriginal, and had already been seen on TV several tis.
Lu Jiaxin didn’t mind and said with a smile, “The thod isn’t important; what’s important is his intention.”
No man is perfect, and similarly, no woman is perfect. If you’re going to spend a lifeti together, you have to learn to tolerate and understand each other. If you always demand from others, it won’t last long.
Qian Xiaoxiao was left speechless.
During this trip to the Maldives, Lu Jiaxin learned how to ride a jetski and a yacht, and also went diving and fishing with Nie Zhan, having a great ti.
Happy days always pass quickly, and a week flew by in an instant. On the way to the airport, Lu Jiaxin said, “I really don’t want to go back. Nie Zhan, I want to retire in a couple of years.”
Nie Zhan knew she didn’t like working, so he laughed and said, “Sure, I can help you manage the company by then.”
The foundation he and Jiaxin laid was definitely ant to be passed on to their children to inherit. He wouldn’t retire until their heirs were independent enough. But it was too early to talk about that now; they weren’t even married yet, let alone having kids.
On the very day they returned to Hong Kong, Nie Zhan couldn’t wait to submit their marriage application. In Hong Kong, one had to wait in line to register, so they would have to go through the registration procedure when their turn ca.
On the morning of the next day, Lu Jiaxin received a call from Zong Shing: “Jiaxin, did Nie Zhan propose to you on this trip to Malaysia?”
Lu Jiaxin laughed and simply recounted the proposal process: “Xiaoxiao complained that it lacked originality and was just copying others. He, well, just doesn’t have a romantic bone in his body.”
Zong Shing laughed: “Do you know how your brother-in-law proposed to back then?”
Jiaxin didn’t know about this; she had never asked Zong Shing, and Nie Zhan had never told her.
Zong Shing explained that Hu Zhifeng was quite creative: “The first ti was at a restaurant where he put the ring in a small cake. I had just graduated from college and wanted to work first, so I refused; the second ti was on a beach night, with lots of fireworks, and he proposed under the fireworks. But my concerns hadn’t been resolved, so I refused again; the third ti, we returned to campus, and he proposed to there, and I was moved, so I accepted.”
Well, the beach proposal must have been Hu Zhifeng’s idea.
Zong Shing continued, “During the proposal, he said such wonderful things that I was moved to tears, but after we married, none of the promises he made were fulfilled. Looking back now, it’s better to have soone practical like Nie Zhan.”
To say nothing else, Nie Zhan gave a lot of betrothal gifts and has always been helping Jiaxin make money. Of course, the two of them are a formidable team, undefeated in the business world.
Lu Jiaxin said with a smile, “I think so too. He’s dedicated in love, helps make money, and can tolerate my bad temper, which is already great.”
When they were dating, she knew Nie Zhan wasn’t soone who would do romantic things or say sweet words to make soone happy. Knowing that he couldn’t do it but still making such demands, that would be too selfish.
She herself had many flaws, and Ah Zhan never asked her to change! Moreover, they had fun on this vacation, and that was enough.
Zong Shing asked, “So when do you plan to get married?”
Lu Jiaxin said, “The wedding hasn’t been decided yet. We need to find soone to pick a date, but it’s expected to be by the end of the year or next year. We agreed back then to keep the engagent simple and have a grand wedding.”
When they get married, they’ll not only invite friends, family, and business partners but also celebrities from all walks of life. There will be no fewer than one hundred tables at the banquet. Then there are the wedding dress, groom’s suit, and attire for the groomsn and bridesmaids, many miscellaneous things that can’t be sorted out without three to five months of preparation.
Zong Shing thought it should indeed be grand. A woman only gets married once in her life, so if conditions permit, it should be glamorous, even if it’s exhausting.
After talking about the proposal, Zong Shing brought up Nie Manlin’s matter: “Your mother-in-law wants to get a divorce again and is planning to settle back in Hong Kong.”
“Since when?”
“You didn’t know?”
Lu Jiaxin really didn’t know and said with a smile, “Ah Zhan didn’t tell . You know, I just got back from the Maldives today.”
Zong Shing heard the news from a friend, who has a relative married to Nie Jingwen. She said, “It seems that Nie Zhan didn’t tell you not to affect your mood. But your mother-in-law is really a handful. At fifty, she risked half her life to have a child for that man, and now just after two years, she’s clamoring for a divorce.”
“Although your mother-in-law is in her fifties, she’s still unsettled. She says she wants to settle in Hong Kong, but I bet she won’t stay long. I heard the man doesn’t want the kid, so if she throws the child at you, don’t take it.”
Lu Jiaxin knew she ant well and said with a smile, “The Nie Family would accommodate her, but I won’t. If she dares to throw the kid at , I’ll send the kid away, so she won’t see them again in this lifeti.”
After speaking, she realized she said sothing silly: “Her eldest daughter was dying of leukemia, and she was indifferent. Such a person only cares about herself. To her, children are both security and a burden.”
Useful, like Nie Zhan, the son of an imnsely wealthy person, is her lifelong security; useless, like Mina and her brother, are burdens she can discard at any ti.
Zong Shing looked down on Nie Manlin; it’s fine to pursue romantic love, but when you’re lovestruck, you have children. When the passion fades, you leave them like old dolls; it’s worse than an animal.
After work, Lu Jiaxin got ho half an hour before Nie Zhan. Once she saw him, she asked, “Your mom wants a divorce again. Why didn’t you tell ?”
Nie Zhan said, “It was the day before we left that my grandfather called and told , hoping I’d handle it. I refused. Didn’t want to spoil your mood, so I didn’t say anything.”
Lu Jiaxin laughed and asked, “Were you worried it would spoil my vacation mood or that I’d refuse your proposal because of this?”
Nie Zhan didn’t deny it, agreeing it was both: “Rest assured, I won’t manage her affairs anymore.”
Lu Jiaxin didn’t plan to interfere and said, “I heard he doesn’t want the kid. Is she planning to bring the kid back?”
Nie Zhan nodded and said, “She called today, saying she wanted to bring the kid back to Hong Kong. I suggested she send the kid away. With soone like her, she can’t raise a child well.”
Lu Jiaxin found him bold: “Your mom might just get furious.”
Nie Zhan indifferently said, “I don’t know. Anyway, I hung up before she could start cursing.”
From college graduation till now, he’s been cleaning up her sses, and he’s really fed up with it.
Lu Jiaxin shook her head and said, “It’s easier said than done.”
She also wanted to sever ties with Lu Hongjun, but reality wouldn’t allow it. Luckily, they are thousands of miles apart, so out of sight, out of mind. She couldn’t bear it if he were around every day.
