Chapter 577: Chapter 560: Nie Manlin Gives Birth to a Daughter

Lu Jiaxin had arranged with Nie Zhan to go horseback riding over the weekend, but on Friday she received a call saying Nie Manlin’s situation had worsened. Old Master Nie called and asked Nie Zhan to go to Switzerland imdiately.

After hanging up the phone, Nie Zhan leaned against the headboard for a long while before calling his secretary to book the earliest flight to Switzerland for the next day. He didn’t want to go at all, but firstly, giving birth was very dangerous; secondly, since the call ca from Old Master Nie, he couldn’t expect a seventy-year-old man to make the trip.

Seeing his somber face, Lu Jiaxin consoled him, “You should still go and take a look. Once she safely delivers the child, you can co back.”

It was a good thing the Nie family was wealthy, providing monthly allowances to family mbers. Otherwise, with Nie Manlin’s qualities, Nie Zhan would have had to support her child as well. But thinking of the man Nie Manlin later got involved with, she knew he was no simple character; he was calculating and capable.

Lu Jiaxin said, “That man is no good. Ah Zhan, you must be careful for your safety on this trip to Switzerland.”

As Nie Zhan looked at her, Lu Jiaxin said, “You haven’t made a will, and if sothing happens to you, your mom would be the primary beneficiary.”

It was the sa for her; if she hadn’t made a will, then Lu Hongjun would be the primary beneficiary. The prospect of tenfold profits could drive people crazy, and such a fortune worth several billion was enough for so to take the risk.

Nie Zhan touched her head and said, “Don’t worry, I will be careful. If he really harbors such thoughts, I will make him realize that living is ten thousand tis more painful than death.”

Early the next morning, Nie Zhan left. Lu Jiaxin, because it was the weekend, slept in until eight o’clock before getting up, and the first thing she did was go to the garden to pick flowers.

“Boss, your nephew’s on the phone.”

Lu Jiaxin put down the scissors to answer the call.

When she heard Lu Hongjun had been pushed down while sending his child to the Children’s Palace and had cracked his knee on the ground, Lu Jiaxin was speechless. Last ti, the Peng family had shoved him, and he had twisted his waist. This ti, another push had caused a bone fracture—his luck truly had no equal.

“What did the doctor say?”

Shanzi said, “He’s in a cast now, and the doctor says he needs to rest in bed. He shouldn’t get out of bed for the first month. Grandma Tang says since he got injured while accompanying Gou Dan, we should bring him ho for care.”

“Aunt, I want to bring grandpa ho to stay, but he doesn’t want to. He says he has been lying down for so long that he’d like to go out in a wheelchair, but it’s not convenient to move around because of the stairs at Shan Lounge. I proposed renting a room next to the noodle house so it would be easier for him to get around and for to take care of him, but grandpa still disagrees.”

Without even thinking, Lu Jiaxin guessed what was on Lu Hongjun’s mind and asked, “Does he want to stay in Shichahai?”

Shanzi lightly affird, sounding helpless as he said, “I’ve been trying to persuade grandpa for a long ti, telling him it’s inconvenient with Madam Gu living there, but grandpa said the Shichahai house is very big, with Madam Gu residing in just one of the courtyards, leaving three others empty.”

Her house was so beautiful that even soone as world-wise as Zong Shing loved it imnsely, let alone Lu Hongjun.

Seeing Lu Jiaxin had not responded, Shanzi added, “Aunt, I actually know grandpa wants to live in Shichahai because he misses the cooking of the two chefs there.”

Lu Jiaxin said, “The Chaoyang house is mine. If he wants to leave it for that woman surnad Tang to live in, then enjoy the best of food and drink while staying in my Shichahai house, he really thinks he’s got it good, making the sucker. Tell him not to overstep his bounds, or I’ll change my number and he won’t be able to find anymore.”

Seeing her angry, Lu Shan dared not speak.

Lu Jiaxin said coldly, “Send him back to Chaoyang. If that Tang woman doesn’t take care of him, she can get lost. Then hire a nanny and a caretaker to look after him. Even if Lu Hongjun is unwilling, you don’t need to bother; just let him rot in his house.”

Give them a smile and they think they can start dyeing workshops. Thinking of Nie Manlin, Lu Jiaxin felt she and Nie Zhan really were birds of a feather—how could they have encountered such parents. She was still alright, having co into the picture halfway with no emotional ties, but Nie Zhan’s heart had been thoroughly wounded by Nie Manlin, yet he still had to deal with her. The thought alone made Jiaxin feel nauseous.

Lu Jiaxin called Yu itong, then dialed Li Huini after hearing that Yu was working overti. Ever since that charity gala, Li Huini had invited her shopping several tis, but it never worked out because Lu Jiaxin was always busy.

Hearing Li Huini’s languid voice, Lu Jiaxin asked with a laugh, “Are you still sleeping?”

Li Huini checked the ti, yawned, and then said, “It’s Saturday today. During the week, I always sleep until twelve before getting up. Jiaxin, is there sothing you need?”

“I feel like shopping, do you have ti?”

Li Huini, who was still sowhat sleepy, instantly perked up. Shopping was her absolute favorite activity, “I have ti on Sundays. Jiaxin, where shall we go?”

“Central, Seaport City, Central Square… Any of those.”

Li Huini said with a laugh, “Then let’s go to Central! There’s a new Western restaurant that opened up there and the food is fantastic. I’ll take you there to eat; you’re going to love it.”

If Lu Jiaxin hadn’t invited her to go shopping, she’d have gone to that restaurant with friends in the evening.

An hour and a half later, Lu Jiaxin and Li Huini t up on Queen’s Road. Upon seeing each other, Li Huini asked with a smile, “Jiaxin, did you go on vacation? Your skin is so tanned.”

“Why, are you interested?”

Li Huini imdiately waved her hands and said, “I have to avoid such places. My skin isn’t as good as yours; a little cover and it will whiten right back up, but if I get tanned, it won’t heal back for half a year.”

This was clearly the talk of soone who traveled often. It was quite interesting, though — back in school, she didn’t have much to do with Li Huini, her classmate, yet now they were shopping together.

Li Huini was a frequent shopper, knowing the shops in Central like the back of her hand. And she had great taste too, giving them plenty of common ground to talk about.

After buying things they liked, enjoying delicious food, and having a full-body spa, Lu Jiaxin’s mood had greatly improved.

When they parted ways, Li Huini said with a laugh, “Jiaxin, shopping with you is so much fun, let’s do it again next ti.”

Lunch was on Li Huini, but she also reciprocated with a handbag worth over eight thousand—to give and take was the normal way of friendship.

In the evening, Lu Jiaxin received a call from Nie Zhan: “It’s a girl, she’s born. My mom was under anesthesia and hasn’t woken up yet. I’ve already had my secretary buy tomorrow’s plane ticket.”

As long as the mother and daughter were safe, that was all that mattered; he wouldn’t concern himself with anything else. If it hadn’t been for Old Master Nie’s call, he wouldn’t have bothered leaving what he was doing to co. One chooses to give birth, one should bear the consequences themselves.

Lu Jiaxin also told him about Lu Hongjun’s injury: “Just a bit of sunlight and he blossoms. From now on, I’ll never show him a kind face again.”

Everything was fine staying at the Sumr Resort, and yet he got worried about Gou Dan attending the Children’s Palace and hopped back, fussing over pickups and drop-offs. Now he’s injured and doesn’t want Lu Shan to look after him, he doesn’t want Tang Sufen’s care, but he expects to stay at Shichahai. Wishful thinking.
