Lucius slumped to his office chair, unbuttoning the blazer and picked up the phone from the desk. He dialed Carlo’s number and waited for the phone to be answered.
Finally, after a few rings, the call was picked.
As expected, on the other side, Carlo was on the line.
"Hello!?"
"Carlo, Lucius this side."
"Lucius?" Carlo looked at the number before bringing the phone back to his ear. "Why are you calling ?"
"We were supposed to et way back, but so matters kept busy," Lucius stated.
"What do you want?" Carlo asked, his eyes furrowing in suspicion.
"I would like to et you," Lucius replied.
Carlo laughed on the phone. "Are you kidding? Why would I even et you, Lucius?" he muttered after his laughter stopped.
"To save your life," Lucius replied. "I may hand over the information of your estate to the police. I know you have been doing quite illegal stuff outside Ro," he threatened Carlo.
"Your threats don’t work on . Do you think–" he couldn’t finish as Lucius cut him off in the middle.
"Don’t beg later for a chance. I did warn you," Lucia said and hung up the call.
Carlo gazed at the phone’s screen and chuckled. "He truly think I will be afraid of him!"
"Boss, a raid has happened in one of our godowns," One of Carlo’s n ran into the office and inford him. "Our equipnt have been sealed. But luckily, our n already sneaked away, so none was caught."
Carlo clenched the phone in his hand and realized it was Lucius’s doing. So, he wasn’t making false threats.
"What ga is he planning with ?" Carlo muttered and called back Lucius. "Dammit! Pick up the call." He pressed the fingers on the temple of his forehead.
He dialed for the second ti and this ti Lucius answered his call.
"Seems like you made up your mind quickly," Lucius spoke.
"Where do you want to see you? I’m not coming to Ro," Carlo said.
"You have to co to Ro," Lucius said, moving the pen in his other hand. "Let’s et tomorrow. I’ll call you. Don’t worry. I have no intention to get into a brawl with you."
"Fine. I’ll call you once I’ll be in Ro," Carlo said.
"Don’t try to play any ga with . You will be ruined even before you can think," Lucius pronounced.
Carlo clenched his fists hard. "If you don’t trust , then there’s no use to see each other."
"Carlo, I don’t trust those who have betrayed Matteo. You should be happy that I let you live after what you did to him," Lucius pronounced. "Let’s not argue over the call. If you want to live a normal life, see tomorrow."
With that, Lucius ended the call and put the phone on the desk.
"Boss, why do you wish to see Carlo?" Roger asked with a frown. "Did Sylvia again do sothing?"
"No. Carlo is trying to harm by infiltrating my group," Lucius stated firmly. "Chase inford that he has sent a woman on a mission specifically for this task."
He leaned back slightly, exhaling in concern. "I won’t allow any threats to lurk around us, especially not now, with Layla pregnant. That’s why I’ve decided to confront him myself and ensure Carlo never creates trouble for or any of you."
Roger nodded slowly, absorbing his words. "I see," he murmured in a thoughtful expression.
Just then, a knock on the door grabbed their attention.
Roger turned toward the door and pulled it open, his brows lifting in mild surprise. "Demitri?" He gazed at him curiously, but what truly caught his attention was the receptionist standing just behind him.
"Let them in, Roger," Lucius instructed, rising from his chair.
Demitri inclined his head slightly before turning to the woman beside him. "Nora, co inside," he said with politeness.
Nora stepped forward, stopping beside Demitri as she respectfully greeted Lucius.
"Have a seat, please," Lucius said.
Roger, on the other hand, left the office as he was supposed to look into the files.
Nora hesitated, waiting for Demitri to take a seat first, but the opposite happened. With a subtle gesture, Demitri pulled out a chair for her and motioned for her to sit.
Lucius observed the exchange, a small smile playing on his lips as his gaze flickered between them.
After a brief mont of uncertainty, Nora finally sat down with a stiff posture. Only then did Demitri take his seat beside her, settling in with ease.
"Sorry for not being able to et you the other day, Miss Nora," Lucius said as he made his way to the wooden shelf on the left side of the room. He opened a drawer built into it, retrieving a sealed envelope before returning to his seat.
"The Director shouldn’t apologize. In fact, I’m grateful for the help he has provided ," Nora replied, her voice carrying a nervousness despite her composed deanor.
"Here’s the extra amount those loan sharks took from you," Lucius said, sliding the envelope across the desk.
Nora hesitated, her eyes flickering between the envelope and Lucius. Before she could respond, Demitri spoke.
"Take it. That’s your money—hard-earned money," he stated firmly, his gaze steady on her.
Nora got overwheld as she reached for the envelope with slightly trembling fingers. "Thank you, Sir," she said. "I can’t even put into words how grateful I am."
Lucius leaned back slightly, watching her. "Well, you should thank Demitri. He’s the one who brought this issue to my attention. Since you’re his friend, I couldn’t ignore the request."
"Nora has thanked enough," Demitri replied and gazed at her.
"Rest assured, Miss Nora. From now onward, those loansharks will never trouble you. And I want you to stay away from them even in the future," Lucius advised her.
"I understood, Sir," Nora said.
"Nora has to work, so we will leave now," Demitri stated.
Lucius humd and watched them leave. Since his work was over, he decided to check on Layla and went to see her.
