Four days later,

’This was my last breakfast with Layla. I hope she forgets soon. I will never appear before her and will protect her from the shadows,’ Lucius thought.

Layla flicked her fingers in front of Lucius’s eyes, bringing him to reality. "What are you thinking?" She stirred the spoon into the cereal bowl while looking into his eyes.

"That I am blessed to have you," Lucius said, leaning close to her and kissing her cheek.

"Then, say it loudly. Don’t just think," she murmured and brought the spoonful of cereal to her mouth. She noticed his smile wasn’t like the other days. It hid sothing in it, which she couldn’t decipher.

After finishing their breakfast, Layla asked Lucius, "Are you not going to the office today?"

"No. I don’t feel like working," Lucius replied.

"Hmm. Then, what will you do here alone?" she asked, taking slow sips. "I thought you loved spending ti with and would have followed to the office."

"Then, I should follow you to the office," Lucius told her.

"No. Stay here," Layla replied. Resting the glass on the table, she picked up her handbag from the chair next to her. "I’ll see you in the evening."

As they stood up, Lucius kissed her passionately. ’I wish there were a way to stop everything without going away from you,’ he thought while still nibbling on her lips. Only when he felt they both needed oxygen, he pulled away and caress her hair.

"Why does it seem you are kissing as if it’s your last with ?" Layla took deep breaths, keeping her eyes glued to him. She wrapped her arm around his neck and placed her other hand on his back.

"Lucius, when you are ready, do tell everything that’s going on in your mind," she urged.

"I will," Lucius replied. It was another lie from his side. Taking a step back, he said, "Go to the office and sign new deals." Again he passed her the sa smile. Layla humd and waved at him before leaving.

"I am sorry, Layla," he whispered.

Lucius headed upstairs to get ready and leave. As he ca toward the door, holding the phone in his hand and holding the doorknob, he realized that the door was locked from outside.

Lucius pulled it and tried harder this ti, but couldn’t open it.

"What happened to the door?" Lucius mumbled and called the security.

However, no one from the security picked up his call. "What’s going on?" Lucius muttered and quickly dialed Roger’s number.

As the call was picked up, he said, "Roger, are you outside? Please co to the room and open the door for ."

"Sorry, Boss. I cannot do it," Roger replied.

"What?" Lucius frowned to hear his response. "Just co to the room and open the door. I’m not in the mood to take any pranks," he said.

"Boss, it’s not a prank," Roger replied. "Madam has strictly ordered not to let you co out of the room today. This is your punishnt for lying to your wife," he added with a tone of mischief.

"Are you fucking stupid?" Lucius lost his temper and yelled at him. Roger quickly moved away the phone from his ear and gazed at Layla. "Handle your husband," he handed his phone to Layla.

"Open the door, Roger. I am going to beat the sh–" He abruptly stopped as Layla’s voice ca through the other side of the phone.

"Lucius, you are not leaving the mansion today. And I swear if you try to jump out of the balcony or find any other way, then, you will lose forever," Layla stated.

"What are you saying? You can’t lock here. You don’t know..."

"I know. I know everything. So, stay in the mansion and wait for my return," Layla said.

"No. Don’t do anything. Please. Please, Layla," Lucius scread from the other side.

She could feel the pain behind that sudden scream and sensed that he had begun crying.

"Lucius, don’t cry. You are not going to lose or anyone around you. So, calm down and let your wife handle everything now," Layla pronounced. "Please, Lucius. You need to trust ."

Lucius shook his head, the tears still streaming down his eyes. "I can’t-can’t do that. Tsar will not let any of you live. My real father wants to return to Russia. And I made a deal with them for the lives of all of you, I need to leave Italy forever. Please, free . Don’t get locked here," he requested.

"Lucius, I never saw you in fear. Since you can’t think with the right mind now, that’s why it’s crucial to keep you locked. Don’t worry. I’m not alone because I’ve a friend, who is going to catch Tsar and bring him to you. In the next two hours, you’ll find in the mansion, right in front of your eyes. Lucius, you need to trust more than anyone."

Lucius stopped crying, not knowing how it happened. Her calm voice had brought his mind to rest.

"Fine. I’ll be waiting for you here," Lucius said and hung up the call. Right away, he turned to the balcony and opened its doors. Even if he put his faith in Layla, nothing was going to change.

However, as soon as he stepped onto the balcony, Demitri appeared before his eyes and inserted a needle into his neck.

"What the hell are you doing?" Lucius pushed him away. However, he felt his entire vision turning blurry. "Wh-what did you give ? I need to save Layla... Please... Ple..." Lucius’s words trailed off as he fell to the floor, unconscious.

Demitri tapped the Bluetooth device in his ear. "I gave him the injection. Now, for the next four hours, he will be in a deep sleep, Layla."

"Thanks, Demitri," Layla replied from the other side.

"Layla, are you sure you can catch Tsar?" Demitri asked her.

Layla smirked from the other side. "He is already in our trap," she replied victoriously.
