Alekis decided to send away Evelina and asked her to co with him.
"Dad, don’t." It wasn’t a request but a command. Lucius wanted to clear everything with his mother today, so that she would never see him again and make him feel miserable. He stepped toward his mother and halted right in front of her.
"Now, tell why you’ve co in Italy again?" Lucius probed, his intimidating gaze terrified Evelina and made him recall the person she didn’t want to.
Roderick stopped next to his mom as he had been watching this entire scene. "Uncle finally admitted what he did to my dad," he whispered in Fiona’s ears.
"Don’t say that," Fiona told him while keeping her voice low.
"Why are you quiet suddenly? Say it whatever is in your heart. Say it you hate and want to live in guilt for the mistake my mother made years ago," Lucius pronounced, his eyes didn’t waver for a single mont from his mother.
Evelina’s lips quivered, but words didn’t co out of her mouth. She felt like everything would crumble if she would say the truth to him.
"You are making annoyed by staying quiet again. Just say it what you’ve buried in your heart for so many years. If you think I’ll be hurt, then you are wrong because I may know what you’ve been hiding from for so many years," Lucius said, confusing both Evelina and Alekis. "Tell what scares you that you think I’ll beco alone," he demanded.
Evelina lowered her eyes, not able to bring that na on her mouth. She couldn’t let him uncover the person she had spent so many years trying to shield him from. For his sake, Lucius had to stay far away—far from the one na that could destroy everything.
"My return flight is getting late. I’ll leave," Evelina said as she turned on her heels, desperate to escape the situation she had created.
Lucius stood motionless while his eyes cold watched her retreating figure of his mother. Alekis imdiately followed her, but before they could take another step, Lucius’s voice echoed through the room, sharp and unrelenting.
"Whose son am I?"
The question stopped Evelina mid-step while Alekis also froze beside her, his face clouded with unease.
"Tell ," Lucius pressed, "who is my real father?"
Fiona and Roderick exchanged shocked glances, their bewildernt evident on their faces.
"Say it," Lucius pressed this ti. "Tell the na of the man you’ve been running from your entire life. The man who made you leave everything behind, including ."
Evelina’s shoulders tensed, her breath catching as she turned to face her son. Her eyes were wide with shock and fear. Alekis, too, turned slowly, his face pale as he struggled to comprehend how Lucius could have uncovered the truth.
"Once you tell his na, you’re free to go. That’s all I want," Lucius told his mother. "And if you don’t, then you don’t even have a right to feel worried for the person close to . You already have lost years ago."
"Lucius, calm down," Alekis intervened finally. He felt he should take the charge and handle the situation on his own. He didn’t wish Lucius to break his ties with him once Evelina say the na of the person who was Lucius’s father.
"Dad, don’t let in dark. At least, you should not," Lucius requested humbly.
"Follow and Alekis, please stay behind," Evelina said and headed to the garden. She didn’t wish Fiona and her son to listen to her conversation with Lucius.
Lucius was ready to face the truth and he followed his mother to the garden.
Once they reached at a point, where nobody could hear them, Evelina turned to look at Lucius. "When did you find out?" Evelina asked.
"Does that matter?" Lucius answered her with a question.
"It does because you never once spoke about it," Evelina said.
"And if I would have spoken about it, then what would you have pitied and taken with you?" Lucius again questioned.
"Lucius, it’s complicated. You should have asked if you knew," Evelina asserted.
"Why did you always hate Matteo?" Lucius asked another question.
"Because of him you pulled into a world, where only evil lives," Evelina replied.
"You aren’t less evil than them. You always made feel pathetic. I am sure you are aware of how I felt toward my own mother. Do you even know how I felt when you divorced Dad and left with so other man? The last you told was you would co for . You lied to your teenage son just to live a comfortable life, putting into soone else’s house as his responsibility. Wasn’t that the evilest thing a mother could do to her own child?" Lucius demanded answers from her for the questions he always wanted to ask.
"Fine. I admit I am an evil mother to you. That should end all of your questions here. Your father was a drunkard, who abused so much that I ran away from him and t Alekis. I was hating myself because I ended up getting pregnant with you. I am not running away from your real father, but you remind of him," Evelina revealed the truth to him with a neutral expression on her face.
"The mont you joined hands with a mafia’s son, Matteo, the lives of the people around you had already ca into danger. I don’t want , or my happy family to get destroyed because of you. Layla is a nice woman and I do care for her. You reminds of your father and I just want Layla to not suffer with you," Evelina asserted, keeping her gaze fixed on him.
"Since I’ve answered all your questions, I will leave now. You never gave anything to your mother, at least you should do this small thing for . You aren’t the sin that I carry. But you are the sin of your father. That’s how I have always seen you."
Evelina gave a final glance to her and walked away, leaving Lucius in his thoughts.
