"We can’t see Boss right now," Roger told both Aiden and Zayne. "But rest assured, he is out of danger and is absolutely fine," he asserted. The three of them entered the next room and Aiden closed the door behind him.
The three of them stepped into the adjoining room, and Aiden closed the door softly behind them, ensuring their conversation remained private.
"Did you manage to uncover anything?" Roger asked as he turned to Zayne with a serious gaze.
"Yes, I did," Zayne replied, pulling out his phone. "I discovered what the shooter looks like," he said, handing the device to Roger.
Roger studied the image intently. "He appears to be a middle-aged man," he remarked, his brows furrowing in thought.
"That’s correct," Zayne confird, crossing his arms. "He goes by the alias ’X,’ but no records of his real na exist in any database I accessed. From what I gathered, X was previously affiliated with a gang that operated outside our borders. It seems likely that he was brought here to execute this particular mission," Zayne elaborated, his voice steady as he detailed his findings.
Roger’s gaze darkened as he processed the information, nodding slowly. "This complicates things. If he’s from an external gang, we might be dealing with a broader threat than we initially thought," he muttered, deep in thought.
"I examined the sight with Zayne," Aiden spoke up. "The target was Layla, not our boss. Soone wants to kill her. The shooter has been following them for a while and most importantly, he missed the shot because the roof that was made just made outside the door. If he hadn’t missed his first shot, Layla’s life would be in danger," he told them in detail.
"Why would soone want to harm Layla?" Roger frowned.
"Seraphina tried in the past," Aiden reminded him. "I will visit the prison tomorrow," he added.
"I don’t think Seraphina will be foolish enough to do sothing like that again," Roger opined.
"You are wrong, Roger. The mind of a criminal doesn’t go that way. I am aware of the incident happened with Layla in the past. And even Orabela wanted Layla dead. I think these two are pri suspects, so they should be kept an eye on," Zayne explained.
Roger humd as he felt he was a foolish to believe that they would not be a part of this evil sche. However, one thing still made him suspicious. "Orabela isn’t capable to hire such a sharp shooter. I think Seraphina can," he asserted.
"Well, it’s difficult to say anything now. But let’s investigate," Aiden suggested.

The next morning, Lucius’s and Layla’s family arrived to check on him.
"Dad, I’m fine. You don’t need to worry so much about ," Lucius said as he remained reclined on the hospital bed.
"You always say that," Alekis replied, his tone carrying both frustration and fatherly authority. "Once you’re discharged, you’re moving back to the main house with your wife. This isn’t up for discussion," he added, his words leaving no room for argunt.
Lucius didn’t argue with his father and simply nodded, opting for silence over resistance.
"Here’s so homade food for you, Lucius," Miriam said, placing a neatly packed container on the bedside table. Her warm smile carried a hint of maternal concern.
Turning to Layla, she continued, "I think you should head ho and get so rest for a while. You’ve been here all night. You can return in the afternoon," Miriam suggested gently, her tone kind but firm, knowing Layla needed a break.
"Yes, Layla should go ho," Lucius agreed with his mother-in-law’s words.
Layla hesitated for a mont before nodding. "Alright, but I’ll be back soon," she assured him.
"Yes, she should," Lucius said, looking at his wife. "Co in the evening," he asserted.
"Excuse !" A nurse stepped into the room, drawing everyone’s attention. "The visitation ti is over. I need to take so blood samples from Mr. Lucius. Only one person can stay behind," she explained politely.
"I’ll stay," Fiona volunteered imdiately. "At least until Layla cos back."
"You don’t need to trouble yourself," Lucius replied, his tone firm but considerate. His gaze shifted to Roderick. "Why don’t you stay with ?" he suggested.
Roderick shook his head apologetically. "I have a eting I can’t postpone, Uncle. I tried to reschedule, but it wasn’t possible. I’ll co by as soon as it’s over," he assured him sincerely.
Lucius’s thought about Roger and Aiden for a mont, but he quickly dismissed the idea. He knew they both needed rest after being by his side for so long.
"Then Fiona can stay until Layla gets back," Lucius finally decided, though it wasn’t his preferred choice.
Alekis patted his son’s head before stepping out, followed by the others. Layla hugged him, whispering to his ear, "Don’t do anything dangerous behind my back. Just rest."
As she pulled away, Lucius pressed a kiss on her lips, making her smile. Layla then straightened her posture and turned to Fiona.
"Thank you for staying with Lucius," Layla said with gratitude.
Fiona simply smiled and watched Layla leave. The nurse took the three samples of blood from Lucius’s arm and walked away.
As Fiona unpacked the tiffin box, she said, "Father was crying last night. You are the only son he has. The last ti I saw him breaking into the tears when your brother passed away."
She set the box on the bed table along with a spoon.
"You need to co ho and stop working as a mafia," Fiona affird, opening the box. It has porridge inside it. Lucius picked up the spoon using his left hand when Fiona took it from him.
"I will help you," Fiona said.
"It’s fine. I can eat," Lucius refused her held. He could use the second hand as well, so he began eating the porridge.
Fiona sat on the chair next to the bed. She turned quiet because Lucius was having his al. Once finished, Fiona cleaned the table and put the box inside its case. She handed a glass of water to Lucius with prescribed dicines.
After Lucius was done, Fiona said, "You still think you can find out how your friend died. Don’t ruin your life finding that single truth. You are already affecting many lives, especially Layla’s."
