"Please don’t take it seriously. That’s just how we joke around whenever we et," Lucius said with a casual smile, gesturing for everyone to take their seats at the dining table.

The atmosphere during lunch was filled with polite conversation, but the central focus was unmistakably on Orabela and Canvin’s impending engagent. Both families’ elders discussed the details with enthusiasm, their voices mingling with the clinking of silverware.

By the ti dessert was served, they had reached a decision on the engagent date, sealing their agreent with satisfied nods and smiles.

Orabela, however, remained silent throughout the al. She nodded politely when spoken to but refrained from expressing her true feelings about the arrangent.

Internally, her emotions churned with resentnt and resignation. She despised the idea of this engagent, feeling trapped by the expectations placed upon her. Yet, she knew she had no choice but to go along with it.

This engagent was her only chance to secure the inheritance from her father—a lifeline she couldn’t afford to lose.

Layla observed all of that. Orabela used to be talkative in everything, but now she was not speaking for her own future marriage. But if she would show the concern, Orabela might take it wrongly as she did yesterday.

As lunch ca to an end, the two families began to part ways. The elders stepped into their cars, exchanging a final round of pleasantries, while the younger mbers lingered outside.

"That was a nice al," Canvin remarked to Orabela as he turned his gaze toward her sister, Layla. He pulled out a business card and extended it toward her. "I’ve heard Orabela’s sister is now the Director. Perhaps we could collaborate on so projects in the future."

Layla accepted the card only to return it imdiately. "Thank you, but I must decline. I have no intention of doing business with Mr. Canvin." Her tone was sharp as she locked eyes with him. The main reason was how he humiliated Lucius the mont they were introduced inside.

Canvin retracted his hand, his expression shifting into a bemused smirk as if amused by her directness.

Without sparing him another glance, Layla turned to Lucius and grasped his hand. "We’ll leave first," she said curtly. Together, they walked away.

Watching them go, Canvin tilted his head slightly, his smirk deepening. "Your sister is quite intriguing," he said to Orabela, his tone tinged with curiosity. "How did she end up married to Lucius? He’s not exactly easy to impress—especially not by won."

Orabela’s jaw tightened, and her voice carried a bitter edge as she responded, "Why are you so interested? Also, do you gamble often, Canvin?"

His smirk widened, the glint in his eyes unmistakable. "Why? Are you inviting to see how I perform in the casino?" he quipped, his tone dripping with playful arrogance.

"You better stop doing that or we aren’t getting engaged," Orabela said and went to the awaiting car.

He went ahead in his own car inside which his parents were already seated.

"Is this engagent important, Dad? I don’t like her," Canvin said.

"It can benefit us. The company needs a strong back. Our funds are declining and your gambling habits are costing us a lot," Canvin’s father raised his voice at his son.

"Only once I have lost. And I’m not going to any casino for months. But if Orabela doesn’t act like the way I want, I’m not getting engaged to her," Canvin blurted out. The driver had already drove off the car to their ho.

"Didn’t you find that arrangent a little weird?" Layla queried as Lucius peacefully drove the car.

"Yes, it was. Canvin isn’t a serious type of guy when it cos to relationships. I wonder why your father tossing away Orabela like that. It’s not like I’m sympathizing with her, but it’s strange of him," Lucius explained.

"Yes. Also, Orabela would never get engaged to a guy like that. She was exceptionally quiet today. I shouldn’t be feeling this way, but I do feel helping her," Layla murmured.

"Don’t even think about it because she will bla you," Lucius said with a stern tone.

"That’s the problem. I hope she refuses for this engagent. I don’t want her to live in a misery with a bad guy. No matter how much hatred exist between both of us, but I do feel no woman deserves a bad husband," Layla whispered.

"My dear wife, don’t think about the others, especially those who have inflicted pain on you. Orabela is one of them. She never cared for you, so just turn a blind eye for it," Lucius asserted.

"Hmm." Layla though still feel troubled.

She looked out of the window only to see Ruby driving off in a car.

"Ruby!" Layla exclaid and looked behind, but the car had gone in the opposite direction.

Lucius got alard to hear that na.

"I saw Ruby driving a car. We should go behind her," she urged and took out her phone. She dialed Ruby’s number again, but it was off. "Sothing isn’t right, Lucius. Let’s-let’s go behind that car," Layla said, trying to check the car’s reflection through the rear view mirror.

"Alright, Wife! Hold tight!" Lucius decided to chase Ruby and let her truth be exposed to Layla.

The tyres screeched against the ground as he turned the car and increased its speed while his arm remained in front of Layla’s body in a sort of a shield.

"Layla, your friend is kind of mysterious. Don’t you think?" Lucius asked, pulling back his hand to the steering wheel.

"Do you know anything about it? Perhaps, even if you had, you would not have told . I know you keep so secrets from ," Layla muttered while holding on the seatbelt tightly.

"Well, you will know soon. Just keep one thing in mind. Ruby hid a lot of things from you. I don’t know the reason behind it and that’s why I didn’t bother to tell you," Lucius stated.

Layla looked at him with a frown and wondered why Ruby did that.
