Orabela stopped Layla in the corridor with a frustrated look. "Why are you doing this to ?" she demanded. "I’m willing to start from scratch, yet you’re making it impossible for ."

Around them, the other employees glanced curiously at them, sensing the tension between the two.

Layla looked at her coldly, clearly unfazed by her comnt. "I’m doing what’s right. You didn’t start from zero. You went to Dad for a favor, knowing full well the history between you and the company. You applied for an assistant position, despite all that. Have you forgotten how difficult you made it for to even get my foot in the door here? I didn’t have the luxury of shortcuts.i worked hard, tirelessly to earn so pennies. However, I’m still offering you a chance to work in a departnt where your skills are a perfect match."

Orabela furrowed her brow and dropped her arms in confusion. "What do you an?" she asked, her voice laced with frustration.

"Work as an intern in the sales departnt," Layla replied, her tone firm. "You won’t be using your na or any connections. If you’re serious about making things right, then this is the very least I expect from you." Layla’s words were sharp but asured. "For more details, follow to my office." She turned and began walking, with Aiden trailing behind her.

Layla hesitated as she approached her office, unwilling to face Lucius, knowing the emotional weight he carried for her. The last interaction with him had left her heart aching.

"Boss has already left," Aiden said softly, almost as if he had sensed her inner turmoil.

Layla nodded, a hum of acknowledgnt leaving her lips as she entered the office. She sank into the swivel chair, her shoulders heavy, and motioned for Aiden to sit as well. Orabela was quick to follow, entering the room with a mix of envy and disdain in her expression. She couldn’t help but compare how drastically their positions had shifted.

"I’m not good at sales, Layla," Orabela said with a hint of stubbornness. "I’d be better suited in managent."

Layla didn’t flinch, her gaze steady as she replied, "I want you in the sales departnt. You’ve always relished seeing others suffer, watching them struggle to climb the ladder. Maybe now you’ll understand what it takes to get to the top. I’m still being generous with you, despite everything you’ve put through. All the days you made feel worthless, undermining at every turn and making lose my job, where I’ve been working for months." Her voice trembled slightly, revealing the hurt she had kept buried for so long.

Orabela didn’t say anything. Because her matter was known in most of the companies, she couldn’t apply in the other firms. Moreover, she wanted to gain her lost position back.

"Fine," Orabela said with a sharp tone. "If putting through the sa environnt makes you feel better, then I’ll work as an intern in the sales departnt."

Layla’s expression remained cold as she corrected Orabela, her words laced with authority. "Let make sothing clear. I don’t want you to just work; I want you to see what it really takes to earn a position back. If I had to put you in the sa position I was in, I doubt you’d last. You haven’t worked multiple part-ti jobs or as a servant in soone’s house. So, don’t even try to compare your situation with mine."

Layla picked up her phone, her fingers swiping across the screen. "Mrs. Evans, could you et in my office?" she asked, dialing the Sales Departnt Head, Patricia Evans. "Yeah, sure." Layla hung up and glanced at Orabela, who looked pale, her mind already racing with the daunting prospect of the workload in the sales departnt.

As the phone call ended, Layla’s eyes flickered down to her own device. Lucius’s na appeared on the screen, his ssages waiting for her response.

She hesitated, her thumb hovering over the screen. If she replied, she risked either feeling elated or ruining her already fragile mood.

With a sigh, she chose to ignore it.

Aiden noticed the subtle shift in Layla’s deanor, the tension in her body language and the way her eyes were clouded with sothing more than just the usual professional focus. It was clear that sothing had happened between her and Lucius. Concerned, he pulled out his phone and quickly ssaged Roger.

’How is Boss?’ he sent, hoping for a quick update.

Aiden hadn’t expected a fast reply, but Roger responded almost instantly. ’Don’t even ask. He’s in the boxing ring right now, and I bet the boxer’s going to break his teeth today. Did he fight with Madam Layla?’

’I think so. Even Madam Layla’s mood is ruined.’

’Well, such small fights will increase the love between them.’ Roger went so cute emotes following the ssage.

Aiden chuckled softly, shaking his head. He wasn’t entirely sure he believed that, but Roger’s optimism was hard to ignore. As Aiden looked up, he noticed Patricia entering the office, her expression polite and composed.

"I hope I didn’t make you wait, Madam," Patricia said, offering a small smile as she approached Layla’s desk.

"Not at all," Layla replied, her tone steady despite the unease lingering beneath the surface. She turned to Patricia with a purposeful air. "Orabela will be working in the sales departnt starting today. Please prepare the official docunts for her appointnt with HR. Also, she’ll be working as an intern. I expect you to remain unbiased and professional in your dealings with her."

Patricia nodded, her expression neutral, understanding the seriousness of the task. "Understood, Madam. I’ll get started on it right away. Miss Orabela, please follow ," Patricia said and left the office with Orabela.

"You look worked up today, Madam," Aiden said gently. "Why don’t you go ho? You’ve been pushing yourself since morning," he suggested.

Layla hesitated, her fingers fidgeting with the edge of her desk. Then, as if the weight of her emotions finally beca too much to bear, she blurted out, "Lucius thinks I shouldn’t show him any concern. But how can I not? I’m his wife. I’m worried about him, Aiden." Her voice wavered, and her eyes shimred with unshed tears. "Do you know he’s leaving for Russia in a few days? He found the murderer. But as much as I want him to have his justice, the thought of him being in danger terrifies ."

Aiden’s brows furrowed, his usual calm deanor tinged with sympathy. "Boss is stubborn like that," he admitted, his tone steady but kind. "But you’re right—he was wrong to push you away like this." He paused, lowering his gaze to his phone as he began typing a ssage to Roger.
