- Chapters 16 & 17

Many readers took issue with these chapters, interpreting them as racist or as blaming the victim. However, these chapters are written from the perspective of a demon who has lived through these events. They are ant to reflect historical realities from the perspective of soone who has witnessed them firsthand.

The chapters were ant to show his ntality as soone who lived more than 400 years in Japan, not as endorsents of any ideology.

Shishi Movent

The Shishi ("n of spirit") were radical samurai during the late Edo period, advocating for the expulsion of foreign influence and the restoration of imperial power. Their slogan, Sonnō jōi—"Revere the Emperor, Expel the Barbarians"—captured their mission. While their patriotism was undeniable, so resorted to violent assassinations and attacks on foreigners.

Radical Nationalist Groups in the iji Era

After the iji Restoration, nationalist sentint surged in Japan. So factions, initially focused on unity and modernization, adopted extre asures, including political assassinations and violence against foreign nationals.

Radical Religious Movents

Certain 19th-century Shintō ultranationalist movents promoted aggressive nationalism and militarism, advocating for violence to achieve their goals.

Many assud this line was a reference to Jujutsu Kaisen, but it actually cos from Jekyll & Hyde. In fact, I hadn't even watched Jujutsu Kaisen until multiple comnts brought it up! It was an interesting manga so thanks for that.
