Yujin and Yitian both took their plate and sat around the table. They were both facing Atlas who had started eating.

They looked at their plate stunned. This mage might live in a cave but he not only lives like a prince but he eats like one as well.

The twins started to eat and Yujin asked:

"What’s your na?"

Atlas looked up and said with a smile:

"Just call beloved."

The twins looked at him amused. Yujin said:

"I’m Yujin and this is my brother..."

Before Yujin could finish Yitian cut him.

"I’m Yitian."

Yujin smiled. Yitian is guarded with everyone but he can tell that he wants to show the mage that he isn’t this an person he probably believes he is. Atlas said:

"It’s nice to et you Yujin and Yitian."

The twins smiled and they said at the sa ti:

"You too beloved."

Saying that to the mage sitting in front of them felt right for so reason. Yitian looked at his brother and saw that he felt the sa. They don’t need to use words to communicate they just have to look into each other’s eyes.

Atlas smiled and asked:

"What were you doing in beast valley?"

Yitian said:

"We were looking for bashee’s eggs."

Atlas nodded. Bashees are giant snakes known for eating anything no matter their size or weight. Their eggs have dicinal properties, they are like a panacea.

They can even heal mortal afflictions or bring back anyone who is at the doors of death. They can also cleanse your body and protect you against any future diseases.

Atlas asked:

"Didn’t any mage around you tell you that at this ti of the year they hibernate?"

The twins’ eyes darkened at that. How could Bei Yan not know that? He’s been fighting at Yitian’s side and attending court which ans they know how knowledgeable and powerful he is yet he didn’t know that.

30 soldiers and two mages died for nothing. Since Bei Yan is the most powerful mage in the imperial city he also teaches the new mages so of course they wouldn’t know either that bashees hibernate during this ti.

Yitian said angrily:

"How could Bei Yan not know that?"

"Even if he is the most powerful mage in the imperial city he is still young."

Most people beco magian rather than mage so the imperial city actually only has 10 mages minus the two they lost today and they’re all younger than Bei Yan which makes him the most experienced.

Yitian still felt angry. Bei Yan knows how important this expedition was. They just lost their mother to an affliction that seems to only plague their family.

With the bashee’s eggs the physician would’ve been able to create a tonic to cleanse their body to make sure that their father and them wouldn’t catch that disease too.

He said:

"We ca here to make sure we wouldn’t die from that illness like anyone else yet you almost did by the hands of a longma. If you’re going to be part of the ministry and one of the heads of the mages you must know your craft and everything that goes with it."

Atlas frowned and he checked Versem. The twins believe that their family has been cursed but they’re wrong. They lost a lot of family mbers including their mother recently but it was all part of Bei Huang’s plan.

He had a dark mage make poison and they were inflicted with darkness. Darkness can only be cured by an archmage since they have the darkness elent ability.

He poisoned the twins’ uncles because they were part of the ministry and didn’t share the sa view as him. Then he had the twins’ mother killed because she didn’t believe that Bei Yan was good enough for the twins.

The empress could tell that Bei Yan had a crush on the twins and her disdain for him was in no way subtle. After the empress died Bei Yan got closer to the twins and they felt touched that he was there for them even if the empress hated him.

After the empress died the next person who was afflicted with darkness is the empress dowager.

Everyone knew how much the twins’ grandmother Ling Saifei valued and cared for their mother so Bei Huang was worried she might not approve of Bei Yan either. Unfortunately for them Ling Saifei didn’t die and fell into a coma.

The twins are here to find sothing that might save her and prevent them and their father to catch whatever this is but it’s all part of Bei Huang and Bei Yan’s plan.

As soon as the twins left they poisoned their father and in a few weeks he’ll die. Bei Yan wants Yitian to sit on the throne so he can seat at his side.

He’s sure that as soon as the twins lose another family mber they’ll need more emotional support and finally take their relationship to the next level.

It happened a year after Yitian took the throne in the OG tiline so in the long run his plan worked. As soon as he was nad mage emperor after he married them he dealt with Yitian by accelerating his demise.

In the OG tiline when the twins were in the beast valley Yujin was poisoned by a longma and Yitian sucked the poison out so the darkness spread in him over ti.

The twins never told anyone since they knew people would take advantage of it and instead said that they would give anyone who could save their grandmother three wishes.

At that point, they had noticed that Yitian side effects were the sa as the ones his mother and uncles had. They knew that soone was after them but never suspected Bei Yan. They never found a cure and Yitian passed.

When Yitian died a part of Yujin did too and he killed himself a month later. Since they were no more Ling family mbers left because during that ti Bei Huang had taken care of all of them the ministers crowned Bei Yan as the emperor.

Bei Huang had already taken over the ministry and everyone did everything he would tell them to. Bei Yan indeed loves the twins but he loves power and his father more.

Atlas can’t even help the twins since he still hasn’t reached the cogent stage when it cos to the darkness ability and the bashees are hibernating.

He can’t save their father since even with the egg he won’t be able to be saved but he’ll be able to save Ling Saifei. In the OG tiline she died a couple of days before Yitian.

He knows that the twins are safe for now but just in case he’ll make sure that nothing will be able to get to them.

Yitian looked at Atlas and asked:

"What’s wrong?"

Atlas said:

"Mages are taught everything about esse beasts. Forgetting such a big fact when as you said he is one of the heads of the mages doesn’t inspire confidence."

The twins didn’t say anything. Bei Yan forgetting is indeed a big deal. It’s not like he did it on purpose still they can’t help but feel anger.

Atlas stood up and ca back with two vials. Atlas pushed it in front of them and said:

"I had made redies previously in case sothing happened to and there’s enough left for two so you can take it."

The twins looked at Atlas stunned again. No one would give sothing so precious without asking anything in return. Yujin asked:

"Why are you doing this when you don’t know us?"

Atlas simply said:

"Because I don’t want you to die after catching the sa illness as your family mbers."

The twins looked at him gratefully and he smiled. Atlas ordered:

"Drink it now I don’t want you to go back and give it to soone else."

Knowing them they’ll probably give it to their father and grandmother but it’s too late for one and Atlas will help the other so he wants to see them drink it.

The twins opened the vial and drank it. They know that their father would never accept him and his mother drinking it when they only have two.

The twins put the empty vial on the table and Yitian said:

"Thank you."

Atlas smiled.

"It’s nothing."

Atlas stood up to get more food but when he passed Yitian he pulled him on his lap.

Atlas held onto his neck so he wouldn’t fall and he looked at him discontentedly.

"Do you want to fall?"

Yitian and Yujin smiled. Yitian said:

"Of course not beloved."

Atlas narrowed his eyes and Yitian caressed his cheek.

"Thank you for saving our life it most certainly isn’t nothing."

Atlas looked at the twins and said:

"I would never let anything bad happen to you."

The twins felt their heartbeat quicken when they saw the determination in Atlas’ eyes. Yujin moved closer and asked:

"Why?"

Atlas shook his shoulders.

"I don’t know it’s just the way it is."

He can’t very much tell them because you’re my soulmates. The twins couldn’t stop themselves from smiling. Atlas smiled and stood up to get more food.

When he ca back he sat on Yitian’s lap again and he held onto his waist and ate with the other. As they ate they talked and laughed. For the first ti in forever the twins felt relaxed and it felt incredibly good.
