Ning Shu kept a very low profile in the residence, as per usual. Whatever she needed to do, she did it secretly at night.

She had sent a little beggar out. She had given him so food and asked him to keep an eye on the Yin family.

Last ti Yin Qing visited, Ning Shu had felt that Yin Qing had sothing she wanted to say, but didn’t. She figured Yin Qing probably had her concerns and chose not to speak.

Co to think of it, she and Yin Qing stood on opposing sides now.

Zhuo Cheran was royalty. If he wanted to be good to a woman, or to have her, there was practically no woman in the world who could say no to him.

Gu Fanlu had fallen ill, and as soon as he seed a little better, Ning Shu wandered into his room to look around.

Then, the next day, Gu Fanlu’s condition worsened again. The old mada summoned several physicians, who took turns checking on him.

She was terrified that her sister’s grandson might die in Marquis Xuanping’s residence.

Even in his muddled, feverish state, Gu Fanlu could still piece so things together. While still lying in bed, he told the old mada he wanted to move out and recuperate elsewhere.

But how could the old mada possibly let him go and recover on his own?

She insisted on keeping him there.

Gu Fanlu’s face was pale. Staying? Not a chance. He knew full well he had been set up.

This ti, they made him sick. Who knew if they wouldn’t try to kill him next?

He suspected this was all the doing of Marquis Xuanping.

Gu Fanlu insisted on leaving, saying his illness might be contagious, and it would be bad if he spread it to the people in Marquis Xuanping’s residence.

With no other option, the old mada finally allowed him to leave, though she also assigned a few people to accompany and care for him.

And so, Gu Fanlu was carried out of Marquis Xuanping’s residence.

Ning Shu stood in a pavilion, watching from afar as Gu Fanlu departed.

“Xiaoqing actually went with him. She’s sure lucky,” Lianqiao said with a stomp of her foot and a pout.

“She’s going to take care of him, not to warm his bed. Why are you so worked up?” Ning Shu replied calmly.

Lianqiao had probably suffered losses at Xiaoqing’s hands before and was now seizing any chance to mock her.

Ning Shu then turned and went to find the old mada.

She bowed and greeted her. “Greetings, Grandmother.”

“Zhuru, co over here,” the old mada said, beckoning her.

Ning Shu walked over and smiled as she asked, “Cousin is so seriously ill. How could we send him away like that? What would Grandaunt think of this?

“Even if Cousin had to leave, it should’ve waited until his condition got better, don’t you think?”

As she spoke, Ning Shu began massaging the old mada’s shoulders.

The old mada felt very relaxed under her touch. She closed her eyes slightly and said, “Fanlu insisted on leaving. He said he didn’t want to pass his illness on to us.”

Softly, Ning Shu replied, “Cousin didn’t want to burden us, but we can’t think that way. I’m sure Grandaunt must feel so resentnt toward you, Grandmother.

“We wouldn’t want others to say that Marquis Xuanping’s family is cold and heartless. We saw soone sick and threw him out.”

The old mada, who was now so comfortable she was about to fall asleep, murmured, “It really wasn’t the right thing to do.”

“Cousin said he was afraid of spreading his illness, but no one serving him has gotten sick. That proves it’s not a contagious disease,” Ning Shu continued.

“Grandmother, does that feel good? I actually learned this from a dical text. It promotes blood flow, eases bruises, and relieves fatigue.” Ning Shu smoothly shifted the topic.

“It feels wonderful. You really are a filial child, Zhuru. Co give massages more often when you have free ti,” the old mada said.

Ning Shu cheerfully agreed.

The old mada, feeling her age, went off to take her afternoon nap.

Shortly after, the ailing Gu Fanlu was carried back to Marquis Xuanping’s residence once again.
