Ning Shu had no objections. After all, it was all for the sake of the task. She said, “Okay.”

Every day, after finishing work, Ning Shu and Wen Xing would wander around different areas, sotis venturing far from the city. They had to rush back the next morning for work, though.

Ning Shu was determined not to lose her job.

During breaks, Ning Shu would set a broken bowl in front of her and start begging for money.

Wen Xing: Don’t you have any dignity?

Ning Shu: What? The wind’s too loud, I can’t hear you… I can’t, I can’t…

Ning Shu and Wen Xing had found nothing, as though the monster in the pregnant woman’s belly had been the last, one-off incident.

If that were the case, and there were no more monsters, their task would be complete.

But Ning Shu couldn’t shake a feeling of unease, though they had nothing concrete to go on and spent every day like headless flies running around aimlessly.

She was so miserable!

Ning Shu vowed never to choose such a world again. Even if she did, it should be as a support mber.

Wen Xing and Ning Shu exchanged glances. “Let’s rest for now. If there really are still monsters around, they’ll show up eventually.”

They had spent their days working by day and patrolling the city by night and on weekends. This routine had thoroughly exhausted their bodies.

Ning Shu nodded. “Alright. If sothing does happen, we’ll report it and call them in.”

Ning Shu looked at her bruised and battered hands. These were not the hands of a typical white-collar worker.

On the way back, Ning Shu stopped by a pharmacy to pick up so Chinese dicine and made herself a balm to heal her hands.

She kept getting more injuries on her hands, faster than the injuries healed.

She applied the balm and wrapped her hands in plastic wrap before sitting cross-legged on the bed to cultivate. However, she was too tired, and her body eventually collapsed onto the bed. She fell asleep in the middle of cultivating.

When she woke up, she quickly removed the plastic wrap from her hands. Leaving it on too long would either cause pimples or inflad her pores.

When she looked at her hands, she was pleased to see they had beco fairer and more presentable than before.

Such hands looked much better typing at a keyboard. Seeing it made her feel happier.

She applied a bit of balm to her face as well.

She’d been running around a lot these days in the wind and sun, so her skin was in poor condition now.

She needed to tidy herself up.

Once she was satisfied, she changed into her work clothes and headed off to work.

No work ant no money, and no money ant no chance of buying a house.

Ning Shu walked out with a radiant face.

She carried her bag and boarded the subway with it.

Although the subway was crowded, her good mood wasn’t affected at all by it. At least she had a job and could support herself.

But once again, soone groped her.

With a cold expression, Ning Shu reached out and grabbed the hand that had been touching her.

The man was startled by her firm grip. He tried to pull his hand away, but Ning Shu held on tight.

She bent back his fingers, and he winced in pain, gasping, “My hand, my hand!”

“Try harassing won again, and I’ll make you pay,” Ning Shu said coldly.

The man was sweating profusely. As soon as Ning Shu let go, he quickly moved away from her.

Ning Shu rolled her eyes. Why did this keep happening to her?

Wen Xing put down his newspaper. He looked up at Ning Shu, who was standing to his left, and said, “You can take my seat.”

While folding his newspaper and standing up, he said, “This seems to happen every ti I see you.”

As soon as he stood, though, another man quickly took his seat and pretended to be asleep.

Wen Xing frowned. He had no other option but to stand alongside Ning Shu.

Ning Shu shrugged. “Every ti it happens, you just happen to witness it.

“Why are n so desperate? Can’t they control themselves?” Ning Shu asked with a roll of her eyes.

“Reproduction is instinctual. This behavior is driven by instinct. So people act on it, while others don’t.”
