She couldn’t help but let out a sarcastic smile.
"Sophia, I... I’m not angry with you. Please, let explain," Lucas said, his defeat obvious, as he realized he had lost.
Sophia wiped her hair back, her eyes stubbornly holding back tears.
"Lucas, let go."
He didn’t move.
"I said, let go!"
Sophia suddenly yanked the suitcase from his grip.
She took a couple of steps away, but then she heard his weak voice behind her. "The three months aren’t up yet."
Sophia took the contract she had signed and the three conditions she had written by hand.
The sound of paper tearing was piercing in his ears.
She extended her hand, and all the torn pieces floated to the ground.
Without any hesitation, she walked away, the six kids following behind, their expressions complicated.
They looked at Lucas, unsure of what to say, but in the end, they all followed their mother.
The car quickly disappeared from sight. Lucas clenched his fists, closed his eyes, and took a deep breath.
"Master, what’s going on with you and the madam? Is there sothing you two can’t talk about?"
"Mrs. Wilson, I just need so quiet," Lucas said, slowly crouching down, staring at the pieces of paper scattered in front of him. He picked them up one by one.
Sophia’s signature was still visible on the papers.
He had thought that his separation from her would co later, but who would’ve thought he’d lose because of Riley, who appeared out of nowhere?
While he was in Country D handling business, he had drunk more than usual and ended up eting Riley.
They were clearly innocent, yet the next day...
Riley had co to him, holding a bed sheet with a red stain on it, demanding he take responsibility?
Lucas shut his eyes, the mory of that day flooding his mind.
anwhile, Sophia had returned to Silver Lake Villa.
She acted like everything was normal, showing no outward signs of distress.
"Mommy..."
"I’m fine. Did the teacher assign any howork today? If so, you can start on it first. Mommy’s going upstairs to take a shower, okay?"
They could all tell she was upset, but none of them dared to ntion it.
Sophia chanically made her way upstairs, squatting in the bathroom. She turned on the shower with one hand.
She had always known that she and Lucas were from different worlds, but it still hurt—so much more than when the Morgan Family betrayed her.
It felt like her heart was being twisted in pain.
Downstairs,
Billy sat with a stern look on his face, looking up information on Riley.
"Riley Nelson, the heiress of Nelson Group. She’s 25, studied in Country D for three years, and just returned. She studied vocal music and even won third place in a world-class competition. She’s often seen with young n, and there’s a lot of dirt on her online."
Angela clenched her fists. "Dad doesn’t seem like soone who’d do sothing to hurt Mommy. Otherwise, there wouldn’t have been so many reports about him not being interested in won."
Charles sighed. "Mommy almost cried. What are we going to do?"
"We heard it clearly from the doorway—it happened in Country D. Billy, check out what’s going on with the Hilton Group branch in Country D. Make sure to find out who’s in charge, and get all the surveillance footage from their hotel.
If that woman’s trying to fra Dad, she must have sothing on him to threaten him with. Find out how she got to the hotel.
Charles and Eric, go upstairs and keep an ear on Mommy.
Dustin, call Aunt Harper and tell her... Mommy’s heartbroken.
If Dad isn’t reliable, I don’t mind having a few more dads around!"
Angela calmly assigned the tasks.
Faye blinked. "What about , sis?"
Looking at the one still sucking on a lollipop, Angela said seriously, "You eat your candy and get half an hour."
Everyone imdiately got to work.
Billy’s fingers flew across the keyboard, rapidly typing.
Before long, Lucas’s entire itinerary popped up on the screen.
Even the hotel he stayed at in Country D was found.
"Billy, is it working?"
"Yeah, just give a little more ti."
Half an hour later, Billy relaxed. "I found it!"
As soon as he spoke, the anxious sound of the doorbell rang.
They opened the door, and Harper didn’t even stop to look at them before rushing upstairs.
Seeing Sophia huddled in a miserable ball in the bathroom, Harper imdiately turned off the shower and wrapped her in a towel.
"Sophia, are you crazy?"
She tried to pull her, but Sophia didn’t move.
Harper handed her bag to Faye, then picked her up without hesitation!
Harper dried all the water from Sophia’s body, then took out clean clothes to personally change her. "What’s going on with you? What happened?
You and Lucas were doing fine, right? Why did you suddenly fight?
Look at you now, a ss. Where’s all that pride you had before? It’s been such a short ti—did you really fall for him?
I told you before, don’t get involved with him, don’t listen to his words, but you didn’t listen to . Now look at you—getting hurt.
If you’d listened to , you wouldn’t be in this ss!"
"He went abroad for four days, and now he’s with another woman." Sophia’s voice was cold, void of any warmth.
Harper frowned, surprised. "What did you say? He’s with another woman?!"
"I heard it with my own ears."
Harper realized that Sophia was in better shape than she expected. If she was really heartbroken, she wouldn’t even be talking.
"n are all pigs. Can you really trust them? If they were trustworthy, even pigs could climb trees.
I’ve been telling you to avoid getting sucked in, but you didn’t listen. You had to test it, to see if the egg could withstand the stone. Do you really think the egg will be harder than the stone?"
Instead of comforting her, Harper spoke harshly to provoke her.
Sophia, looking lost and pitiful, seed like a child abandoned and curled up alone in despair.
"I used to laugh and tell him it was just a ga, but who would’ve thought that I’d be the first one to lose?" She gave a bitter, self-deprecating smile.
"Sophia, it’s not like you’re going to die without a man. You still have !
If Lucas is unreliable, I can introduce you to plenty of guys!
I’ve got a ton of cute guys around . Just tell what kind you want—I’ve got it all!
Starting tomorrow, you’re going on blind dates. I don’t believe you can’t pick one guy out of dozens or even hundreds!"
Sophia shook her head, hugging her knees, her eyes red again.
She thought she was the one controlling the ga, but in the end, she was just a small, insignificant loser.
She controlled so many things, but she couldn’t even control her own heart.
"Am I being too dramatic?"
She said the words in a voice thick with tears.
Harper pursed her lips, pulling her into a hug. "It’s okay, just cry it out. The sun will still rise tomorrow."
Sophia didn’t sleep all night.
The next morning,
The sky was covered with dark clouds.
