Lucas finally felt the weight in his chest drop.

"By the way... what happened to you? Did you rip the roof off your car?"

Sophia had just started to lean over for a look when he pulled her back. Before she could even process it, he hauled her over his shoulder and headed upstairs.

"Mommy!"

The kids called out in unison.

Lucas didn’t even look back. "Go to bed early. Your mom and I need to talk."

Sophia’s struggle was completely useless. She could only rest her chin in her hand in defeat.

Lucas closed the bedroom door and set her down.

"Sophia, I need to talk to you. And... it’s important."

Sophia sat on the edge of the bed, quiet. "Go ahead. I’ll give you a chance to explain."

"I already heard from Alia that Olivia ca by. She also told everything that happened. A lot of what she said was... misunderstandings. No—actually, if I’m being honest, they can’t even be called misunderstandings."

Lucas, who was a ruthless god of war in the business world, suddenly looked completely lost, terrified of making a wrong move in front of the small woman sitting before him.

"If you can’t explain it clearly, then I’ll ask. Olivia entered JL Entertainnt. Did you know about it?"

"...Yes."

"Good. Then answer this—she got in because of you, didn’t she?"

"Yes."

He answered without hesitation.

He knew that hesitating would only make it worse. Admitting it first, then explaining—was the only chance he had.

"When the Morgan Group was in financial crisis, the money that saved them... that was you."

"...Yes."

She had thought she was ntally prepared, but hearing him confirm it with his own mouth still made her hands tremble.

She lowered her gaze and asked softly, "Why?"

"Because six years ago, after you slept with , you just left."

Sophia’s mind flashed with images of that night six years ago.

"When I woke up, you were gone. You left a promissory note, took all the cash from my wallet, and even ran off with my shirt and pants. How could I possibly let soone humiliate like that? Later I tracked down who you were and found out you were the Morgan heiress. I intended to find you and make you pay, but you vanished.

And then a few years later you suddenly reappeared. Of course I wanted revenge. But... I didn’t expect things to spiral out of my control. I never planned on falling for you.

Sophia... I like you.

And because I’d already done all those things, I was terrified to admit them.

Sophia... I was wrong. I’m sorry."

He was practically kneeling in front of her, holding her hands tightly.

Sophia frowned. Her voice was low. "I thought I made myself clear before. I don’t want you lying to . If sothing happens, you need to tell ."

"I know. Sophia... give another chance. Please?"

Lucas was genuinely afraid—terrified—that if she really decided to leave him, he wouldn’t even know what kind of person he’d beco afterward.

The water still clinging to his hair slid down his face and dripped onto the floor.

Sophia took a deep breath, grabbed the towel beside her, and continued drying his hair as she spoke slowly. "When I first heard it, I really was shocked."

"Sophia..."

"Let finish. I even wondered if she was lying just to hurt . But I still believed her.

Then I rembered what we said before—we’re married. That ans I’ll trust you completely. Unless I see sothing with my own eyes, I’ll choose to ask you directly.

I left work early today because of this.

I didn’t expect you to run out and search for everywhere. I’m sorry... for worrying you."

Lucas’s eyes locked onto hers, unblinking.

"I thought it through and let it go," Sophia said quietly. "I didn’t even know how to bring it up to you. But since you’ve chosen to tell first... then this matter stays buried. It won’t exist in our world anymore. What happened in the past is already over.

And like you said, our first eting was just an accident. And a few years ago... that was my fault too. I should’ve taken responsibility for you, but instead, I ran away."

She could still rember it vividly—Lucas sitting in a wheelchair back then, and she was the one who had eaten him clean and then vanished without a trace.

Her face flushed with embarrassnt.

Suddenly, Lucas sneezed.

Sophia froze. "My dear Mr. Hilton, don’t tell you caught a cold just from a little rain? Go take a hot shower. Now."

Lucas frowned slightly. His body wasn’t that weak.

But before he could respond, Sophia pushed and shoved him toward the bathroom.

Just as she was about to close the door, her wrist tightened—Lucas catching her.

He looked at her with utterly innocent eyes. "I want you to shower with ."

"Go to hell."

"Could you really bear it if I did?"

And before she could snap back, he pulled her inside with him.

...

In another room—

Charles rolled up a book and pressed one end to the door, the other to his ear.

"Brother, can you hear anything? Any movent?" Faye asked, her big round eyes full of curiosity.

Charles’s expression was grave. He shook his head. "Nothing at all."

Everyone else exchanged dramatic eye rolls.

"Charles, seriously? You made it sound so intense, and you can’t hear anything? We were all terrified Dad might be... doing sothing to Mom again!"

Charles shrugged and handed the book to Faye. "If you don’t believe , listen for yourself. I guarantee you won’t hear a thing."

Faye raised a brow and pressed the makeshift listening device to the door, even plugging her other ear with her hand.

The room next door sounded pretty quiet... except for a few strange, broken noises here and there.

"Mommy sounds like she’s... hurting but also kind of... enjoying it?"

"Really? Why can’t I hear anything?"

Charles grabbed the book back and listened again—still nothing.

"Charles, is sothing wrong with your ears? Should we take you to get checked?"

Faye ant it sincerely. Charles, however, looked absolutely devastated.

"Faye... you don’t love anymore. You’re making fun of ."

"I am not."

"You are."

Faye pouted and put the book down. "Angela, you tell him—Charles is being petty with again."

Angela, acting like a tiny adult, sighed and patted Faye’s head. "Co on. Ignore Charles. He’s being annoying. Let’s go to sleep."

Faye nodded hard and stuck her tongue out at Charles before leaving.

Charles shrugged helplessly.

Maybe... maybe his ears were broken?

anwhile, the chaos next door didn’t stop—

Not until nearly dawn...
