Erging from the underground river within the mountain, Chen Yan cast a spell and broke through the waterfall’s curtain of water with Gu Tongbing, coming outside.

It was deep into the night, the darkness spread all around, with the waterfall’s roar like thunder, drenching everything in mist.

Chen Yan pondered for a mont, took out a Light Body Talisman and slapped it onto Gu Tongbing, then applied one to himself. Grabbing the collar of Gu Tongbing’s robes, he picked him up, identified their direction, and headed west.

·

When Yun Zhao awoke, he suddenly flipped onto his back on the ground, then grasped at himself, tearing away a piece of ruined talisman paper, and sprang to his feet.

Within the mountain now, the wisteria on the walls had been dug away by Chen Yan, leaving no trace of its purple glow.

However, Chen Yan had kindly left an oil lamp, whose faint light barely illuminated the surroundings.

Yun Zhao’s first reaction was to call out loudly: "Junior Brother Shanhe?"

No one responded, but he imdiately felt sothing had been stuffed into his bosom. Taking it out, it was two pages of letters.

Unfolding them, the first letter was a ssage from Chen Yan, stating he had led the Wooden Mask Man away, and that Liang had been rescued and left behind. He told Yun Zhao that Liang had fallen under a spell restriction, and the thod and spell for breaking it were recorded on the second letter.

Yun Zhao anxiously looked around, and sure enough, in the dimness about seven or eight ters away, lay the outline of a human... though bound by so peculiar force, making it indistinct.

Yun Zhao imdiately recognized it as a kind of spell restriction and hurriedly clutched the letter as he ran over.

He knelt down, unfolded the second page, and quickly scanned the thods and spell to break the restriction. After a glance, Yun Zhao breathed a sigh of relief.

Yes, he confird it; his cultivation level wasn’t enough.

But even if he couldn’t, he couldn’t leave Uncle Liang unsaved.

So, he began trying to chip away at the spell, bit by bit, to break it down slowly.

In his actions, Yun Zhao’s mind was actually filled with questions.

Why did Junior Brother Shanhe render him unconscious back then? What exactly happened between him and the Wooden Mask Man?

Who dug away the wisteria on the walls, the Wooden Mask Man, or Junior Brother Shanhe?

Why did he leave with the Wooden Mask Man? Was he forced, or was it voluntary?

More importantly... why did he leave Yun Zhao behind?

Is he... alright?

·

Both Chen Yan and Gu Tongbing made a miscalculation.

Yun Zhao’s cultivation wasn’t high, and on his own, he couldn’t break the spell restriction on Liang. He could only wear it down little by little, painstakingly loosening it, like ants moving a mountain. He’d also rely on Liang’s own cultivation for resistance.

It was estimated to take three days.

But then Yun Zhao had a sudden idea.

If I can’t save Uncle Liang, I can get soone else to do it!

So, after trying for over an hour and finding no way to break the spell, Yun Zhao simply stuffed the paper into his bosom, hefted Uncle Liang and set off!

After rushing out of the mountain’s belly and bursting through the waterfall, Yun Zhao imdiately pulled sothing out from his Storage Magical Artifact.

It resembled the horn of so animal, made into a horn after being cut off.

Yun Zhao took it in his hands, filled his lungs, and blew hard into it.

Instantly, with a ripple of Primordial Qi, the horn emitted a sound akin to an animal’s mournful wail, laced with sorrow, grievance, and an ancient air.

The sound was unusual, able to penetrate the mountains and forests, spreading far and wide...

After performing this task, Yun Zhao sat down on the ground, waiting quietly.

No one knew how long he waited, almost until the sky started to brighten, when suddenly, from the distance deep within the mountain and forest, a flock of startled birds took flight!

The birds flapped their wings, circling through the mountains and forests as if sothing had startled them.

Soon, a silhouette swooped down from the sky, bringing a gust of wind, causing the trees to sway and bend in its path.

The figure landed right in front of Yun Zhao by the waterfall!

This person wore the Ghost Race’s tight-fitting attire with narrow sleeves, but had a bull-horned hat on his bald head, and a long beard on his chin.

He looked quite old, yet his body was robust, with bulging muscles on his chest and arms.

"Was it you who blew the horn?"

This Ghost Race person spoke, his voice not unpleasant but his pronunciation sowhat awkward.

Yun Zhao quickly stood up, cupping his hands in salute: "I am the Northern Border Yin Mountain South Slope Black Feather Yun..."

"I know you’re from the Yun Family!" The Ghost Race person shook his head: "If you weren’t from the Yun Family, you wouldn’t have that horn of mine."

He paused, his tone even more peculiar: "If you weren’t Yun Family, you, a Demon Race, wouldn’t dare venture into our Ghost Race territory. Your ancestors let you co, knowing I’d be here to watch over you."

As he spoke, he extended his hand: "Return the horn to ."

Yun Zhao hesitated, then quickly presented it with both hands. The Ghost Race person casually took it, glanced at it, then with a squeeze, crushed the horn into pieces and casually tossed it aside.

"According to the agreent with your ancestors, I owe them a favor, thus gifting that horn, promising to help with one thing. Now, Yun Family boy, tell what trouble you’ve encountered?" The Ghost Race person spoke irritably: "Once this task is done, I’ll owe your Yun Family nothing."

"Please, senior, rescue my Uncle Liang." Yun Zhao cupped his hands again.

"...Is that all?"

The Ghost Race person frowned, gazing at Liang lying on the ground: "This fellow isn’t dead, and he’s not too badly injured. Why would he need my help? Can’t you break the spell restriction yourself?"

On hearing this, Yun Zhao couldn’t help feeling a bit dumbfounded, secretly grumbling.

How novel!

If I could break it, why would I seek you?

The Ghost Race person frowned: "Breaking a re spell restriction is such a trivial matter, yet you choose to squander the last favor your Yun Family has with ? Kid, are you sure you don’t want to reconsider?"

"I still ask the senior to lend a hand and rescue my Uncle Liang." Yun Zhao spoke with determination.

"...Alright then!"

The Ghost Race person seed slightly unwilling, muttering under his breath, as he walked to Liang’s side: "Making run hundreds of miles for a trivial spell restriction!"

With that, he raised his hand, pointed at Liang: "Open!!"

A ray of Spiritual Light shot from his hand, landing on Liang...

One second.

Two seconds.

Three seconds.

Yun Zhao watched the motionless Liang, swallowed nervously, and ventured: "Senior, my Uncle Liang he..."

"Eh? Wait, just hang on a bit!" The Ghost Race person’s face froze, taking a deep breath, stepping closer and pointing again at Liang: "Open!!"

A more dazzling beam of Spiritual Light hit Liang, only to be absorbed and consud by the spell’s light.

Liang, still motionless.

The Ghost Race person wiped the sweat from his brow, forcing himself to remain composed.

"I shall open!"

"I shall open!"

"Open, I say!!"

"Open, open, open!!"

The Ghost Race person’s fingers danced rapidly, sending out beams of Spiritual Light, but seeing Liang unmoving, his expression grew increasingly grim, with taut muscles twitching at his eye corners.

After gasping for breath, he turned around, only to see Yun Zhao staring back at him with an odd expression, smiling while presenting a page in his hands.

"Um... Senior... perhaps you should try this?"

The Ghost Race person took it, glanced briefly, his face turning dark upon realizing it held the thod and spell for removing the restriction! He slowly turned his head towards Yun Zhao with a livid expression.

"...Why didn’t you ntion this earlier?"

Yun Zhao hesitated: "Uh, senior didn’t ask."

The Ghost Race person was silent for a mont, then looked at Yun Zhao earnestly.

"Yun Family lad, didn’t you get beaten much at ho, did you?"

"Huh?"
