Third POV—

Erica slowly opened her eyes.

Rubbing her eyes, Erica slowly sat up. As her vision cleared, she found herself in an unfamiliar room. Infront of her, Klurench tidying up the room.

With a hoarse voice, she asked, "Where are we? What are you doing?"

Without looking back, Klurench replied, "Ah, we are in my secret house. I have always planned to bring you here but for so reasons, I was unable to." He continued his work.

Erica looked at his back dazedly. Everything that had happened hit her instantly. Tears dropped from her eyes like waterfall. Her crying attracted Klurench’s attention.

Imdiately turning back, he walked towards her and crouched near the bedpost. He held her hands and asked, "Why are you crying?!"

Sobbing, Erica yelled, "Y-you?! A-are y-you a-a-asking the reason? H-how c-c-could you?! Y-your d-d-devotees... were s-slaughtered l-like pigs! A-and y-you are asking the reason!! WHAT KIND OF GOD ARE YOU?!! HUH?! ANSWER !!" At the end of the sentence, she was crying loudly. Her face had completely turned red. She was shaking like a leaf. Never in her life, she had expected Klurench to abandon his devotees.

Erica even cursed herself for being powerless to protect her temple. Her friends were killed in front of her. There was no one now for her to call them as her ’family.’ No one was spared.

Klurench’s face was full of sadness. "I-I... was late. I know, you may not ever forgive for this... but I—"

"Why?!" Erica’s stopped crying, she grabbed Klurench’s shoulders. "I ASKED SOTHING! ANSWER !! WHY DID THE GODS DO THIS TO US?!!"

Klurench lowered his gaze and refused to answer her question.

Seeing his reaction, Erica laughed madly. She shook her head and said, "You can’t answer , can you? I never thought that the man, I love is a liar... a fucking liar. If you don’t answer , I will kill myself... right in front of you."

Erica’s words made Klurench’s face turn pale. He grabbed her hands and frantically shook his head. "I will answer you!" he put his head on the backside of her hands, "Erica, I beg you. Don’t ever say this again."

"Then answer ," Erica said in a cold voice.

Klurench nodded, "Erica... do you rember that you once asked a question? ’Why do gods fulfil every wish of human beings?’ There is a reason behind it. It’s not because we like humans very much that... we fulfil their every desire. Although, so gods like ... are very close to humans. And we also know that by doing this we are corrupting them. No, we always knew that we will corrupt them."

"What reason?" Her breath hitched. She knew it very well that Klurench’s words would destroy her remaining faith as well. She could feel it in her bones.

Klurench took a deep breath and said, "It’s because, we, need you. Gods need you."

Erica’s eyes widened in disbelief. She harshly wiped her tears and stuttered, "W-why d-do g-gods need u-us? I-in fact... its s-should be the o-opposite. W-we, h-humans need you! W-what can we possibly give you? I..." She stopped talking as the realization hit her.

A broken smile found its way to her face.

"You need our faith, don’t you?" she said in a blank tone.

Klurench nodded slowly. He said, "Gods are not immortal... I an, we are not fully immortal. We can be killed... but killing us is next to impossible. But there is another way. Gods will cease to exist if, they are forgotten. We need a sense of our lives and humans provide us that. So, that’s the reason, we created you all."

"Humans are bottomless pit. The more you give, the more they want. They are like anchors of life for us. Then again, their devotion makes us strong. Therefore, we fulfil their wishes."

His words were painful to hear. For her, each word poked her heart like a needle.

Erica’s eyes teared up again. "D-did y-you use... ? I am just a-a pawn... for you, ain’t I? Just a toy... for you to discard; a reinforcer of your faith. Y-you don’t love , right?"

Klurench frantically shook his head in denial. "No! You are not a pawn! You are not a toy! And I love you and only you! Erica, don’t ever doubt my love for you. I have discarded everything for you! I will die if you leave ..."

"H-how c-can I-I trust y-you?"

Smiling sadly, Klurench replied, "I-I have abandoned my godhood for you. If you still doubt, you can do whatever you want. I am now a mortal and killing is very easy now. Although, I haven’t lost my strength."

Erica looked at him with utter disbelief. How could soone abandon his godhood? It was impossible, wasn’t it? No, sothing was not right. Klurench was looking pale and his aura was almost non-existent.

"W-why?"

"Because to protect you, Erica. I love you and this, won’t change. Nothing will ever change between us. For you, I will do anything... even if it kills ."

Erica hugged Klurench tightly. With a low voice, she said, "I will never forgive you."

Hugging back, Klurench whispered, "You don’t have to."

Closing his eyes, he continued, "You changed , Erica. Once I t you, I never thought of using humans. At first, humans were the tools which would help sustain myself. But after I t you, I didn’t it. Maybe, it was a blessing for to et you. For you, I can change my every habit. So, please don’t leave ."

Erica asked, "Why did the gods order to close the temple? Did they also asked to... kill all of the devotees?" She was desperate to hear the truth.

He could feel the desperation in her voice. Sighing, Klurench said, "Yes, they did. Their order was to destroy all the temples and to... kill all the devotes in them," he looked into Erica’s swollen eyes, "they exterminate the entire human race."

A shiver ran down Erica’s spine. "T-that’s im-impossible!!" she spluttered in disbelief.

"No, Erica. That’s their ultimate goal. Within a few days, not a single human will be left alive."

Erica yelled, "We should stop them! They can’t kill us like this!"

Klurench clasped Erica’s hands. "Calm down, we can’t do anything."

"But—"

"No, Erica. Be practical, there are only two of us! Doing anything will guarantee our deaths!"

Erica didn’t say anything. Closing her eyes, she lowered her head. A few teardrops fell on Klurench’s hand.

Her tears crushed his heart, yet the only thing he could do was to watch. He said, "Cry all your grievances out, maybe... this way, you can calm down your heart."

"W-why k-kill u-us? W-weren’t we the p-perfect tools?"

Klurench asked, "Erica, do you know how gods are born?" Erica shook her head, "I don’t know as well. All I know is the mont... my eyes opened; I knew that I was a god. To wield such a power is terrifying, so... the nature gave birth to so weapons. Maybe to keep us in check... honestly, I don’t know. There were five weapons. Out of five, only two weapons can be used to kill gods. Although, the other three had its own use. As soon as we ca to know about them, we confiscated those weapons and hid them."

"One day, out of those two ’god-killing’ weapons... one was stolen. A human stole it. The reason, I don’t know. Perhaps, the other gods knew the reason. They tried to keep it behind the closed doors. But I knew, soday it would co biting in our ass. A few days ago, that man killed a god."

Erica couldn’t believe her ears. How could soone kill a god? Gods were a force of nature. Killing them was next to impossible.

"Gods feared that the rest of the humans could turn their backs on them. What if they colluded with that man to kill them? Their constant fear made them to take this decision."

Erica smiled at herself mockingly. Those were the gods, she and the rest of the humans worshipped... yet, they were so coward. Just for a single man, they ordered their soldiers to wipe down the entire human race. How could she ever think of worshipping them? Pleasing them? They were cowards... just like her. Because all she could do was to watch them destroy her every trace of her kin.

"Why does he want to kill all the gods?"

Klurench replied, "I don’t know. But I believe it’s for revenge. He wants to kill all the gods for his own personal revenge that he ignored the rest of the humanity’s safety."

Erica scoffed, "He wants revenge, right? The gods must have done sothing to unleash his wrath upon them."

Klurench sighed heavily. Nodding begrudgingly, he said, "I believe so. There is no reason for his revenge unless, we... the gods have done sothing bad to him."

Opening her eyes, Erica wiped her tears and said, "Klurench, can you please give so ti to think?"

"Alone," she added.

Klurench got up and left the room. Ti was sothing that she needed now, and he would respect her wishes.
