Third POV—

After Sharon left the room, Kaerin turned towards Maria. Her face contained a smile though, her eyes were anything but smiling. She asked, "Why are you here?"

Maria smirked, "I am here to take my responsibility. I have marked her if by change she becos pregnant with my child then, it’s my duty to take care of her."

Enraged by her words, Kaerin stopped smiling and banged her hands on the table. "Are you here to hurt her?" she gritted out.

Maria frowned at her words. She snorted, "I am not going to hurt her. In fact, can I hurt her after I marked her? I believe the answer is... a no. Besides, I am not going to hurt. I am here to protect her."

"Do I look like an idiot to you? I know how much you loved him—"

"Why the fuck are you being a hypocrite? You liked him as well," interrupted Maria.

Kaerin paled at her words. She tried to rebut her but nothing ca out of her mouth. Maria continued, "I liked him so did you. Why should you be given the only chance to redeem yourself? None of us are good persons. Neither nor, you."

"I used him only for his strength," muttered Kaerin.

"Yes. I am not going to deny that. But does it change anything? What would happen if I tell her everything? Will she like you after she learns the truth?" smirked Maria. She wasn’t really planning to tell Sharon as it would backfire on her instead.

"She won’t believe you," yelled Kaerin.

Maria laughed hysterically. She couldn’t believe the fox’s naivety. Did she really think that she wouldn’t believe her?

Composing herself, Maria said, "You really believe that? How blind can you be? She is doing everything different from her previous life. Either she knows the past or, she has so fragnts of it. Whatever the case is, I don’t care whatever she does unless, it threatens her. I am going to remove all the threatening elents from her life."

Kaerin scoffed, "It is a very bold promise. You know, it’s very ironic. Once the person who betrayed her, is now trying to protect her. It’s the height of ndacity."

It was now Maria’s turn to pale. She knew Kaerin was right but... it didn’t matter. She was going to protect Sharon even if, she lost her life in the process.

Kaerin got up from her seat. She was going to practice her sword skills in the training room. Without saying anything, she left the room. For her, she and Maria would never be friends. Not in past life... not even now. Yet, an invisible thread bound their destinies together. She knew she was a coward. Her actions were despicable. She was clinging on the very woman she had hurt. At first, it was just guilt and regret but over the course of ti, she fell in love with Sharon. She dreaded what if one day the woman she loved finally learned the truth?

Sharon’s POV—

I snapped open my room’s door. Entering it, I sat in a chair, thinking today’s events. For now, let’s leave Maria’s matter. It could be discussed later. Right now, I have two pressing matters to deal with. One is the copies of the book and the other is... that man. I shudder to think if they get caught in the hands of my enemies. I still haven’t got any information about it. I hope Maria keeps her promise. I desperately hope that her words are true.

’System, can there be more copies out there?’

[It’s highly impossible. Maybe one or two at the best. Although, I believe only one copy was available, which was destroyed by Maria.]

’Are you sure?’

[Yes, if your enemies wanted to attack you then, they would have already attacked you.]

Its words do contain so weight in them. Although, Heriedieck is not the man that I should be wary of. It’s Kelshin. I highly believe that it was him who made a copy of that book and gave it to the count. I clenched my hands in frustration. I think it’s ti to face the protagonist. In the next council eting, he would definitely co.

’System, what about that man?’

[I don’t have any information about that man. My interface can’t find anything.]

’Tch! Useless system!’

[I am not useless! I am going offline... don’t call unless you really need . You will realise my true worth one day and beg for my forgiveness.]

’You are going, right? Then, just go. Don’t try to give monologue here.’

The system didn’t say anything anymore. That man... did he induce the heat in ? No... it’s impossible. Suddenly, I rembered a few lines written in that book. ’... One more noteworthy thing is, there’s a person who can trigger their heat even if their heat’s duration has passed in that month...’

That man... he is the one that book was talking about. Sweat started forming in my forehead. I couldn’t even land a hit on him. If that wasn’t enough... he could deliberately induce heat in . How can I fight him?

[Host, are you afraid of him?]

’You ca back?’

[I couldn’t control myself anymore! Ok, forget about that. Are you afraid of him? Answer .]

’I-I am. He s-scared . I felt h-helpless when he grabbed .’ I flinched just by thinking about him.

[Host, I don’t think you need to be afraid of him.]

’Why? I am not talking about strength. That, I can work on it. But... he can trigger my heat on his own will.’

[You have Kaerin and Maria to help you with that. They can help you with your heat.]

My eyes widened in surprise. Why didn’t I think of it? Now I have not only Kaerin but also, Maria. In any case, even if I don’t like Maria but doesn’t an I can’t use her. She is one of my markers. I have the right to do so.

’But wait! What if they are not around ? What would happen if soone takes advantage of ?’

[Then be vigilant. Always be on your guard.]

’Wow! I guess that you are not that useless.’

[I told you. You would one day realise my value.]

’Hmmm... right. So, no talks about ’cream bun’ anymore?’

[If you want to...]

’Nah, it’s better we don’t... talk about it.’

[As you wish~]

The system is right. My markers can help with my heat. As for that man, next ti I will be prepared for him.
