"Master?" Deon Myers called out again, his voice tense. Anything that could make the Master frown had to be a significant matter.
Noah Reyes didn’t answer but simply turned his head to glance at Deon Myers. Then, he relaxed his furrowed brows and said in a deep voice, "When we arrive in T City, you must imdiately arrange for soone to help find a woman."
A woman?
The Master wants him to find a woman?
Deon Myers was stunned.
Was it the woman from four years ago?
Four years ago, he hadn’t seen that woman’s face. Could it be that all these years, the Master had been rejecting the beauties introduced by the elders of the sect because he had fallen in love at first sight with that woman from four years ago?
"Does the Master an for to find the woman from four years ago?" Deon Myers asked cautiously, having regained his composure.
The woman he had bought back then seed like she might still be a virgin, but her background was unclear. If it turned out to be unsavory, how could she possibly be a match for their Master? After all, the Flaming Serpent Sect dominated the Asia-Pacific region; the background of the Master’s wife was of utmost importance. It wasn’t as if just anyone picked up from the streets could beco the Master’s wife.
"Indeed."
Noah Reyes’s voice was even deeper. If Deon Myers listened closely, he could detect a hint of tenderness in it.
"But, Master, who is she? What does she look like? I don’t know," Deon Myers said. He felt the task the Master had given him was rather difficult. If I knew her na and appearance, I could find her in just a few hours. But without her na or any idea of what she looks like, I’m powerless, no matter how capable I am.
Back then, to maintain secrecy and protect the woman’s life, the Master had specifically instructed him that no one was allowed to secretly look at the woman’s face. So, when he negotiated with that man, he only saw the woman’s figure. He thought it was good enough and bought her, but he didn’t dare take even a single glance at her face. Now, how was he supposed to find her?
Noah Reyes pressed his lips together and said nothing, simply closing his eyes to rest. He didn’t answer Deon Myers’s question.
Seeing him close his eyes to rest, Deon Myers knew he couldn’t press further.
Now it was Deon Myers’s turn to furrow his brows.
How could he complete the task the Master had given him? If he couldn’t get basic information from the Master, his only option was to search for the man from four years ago, as it was that man who had sold him the woman with the graceful figure.
Deon Myers didn’t know that the man had already been beaten up by Hansen Ruiz’s n, then sent to the Police Station and imprisoned. At the beginning of last year, the man had fallen gravely ill. After being released on dical parole, he had died just a few days ago. Of course, even the Horne Family didn’t know any of this; after sending him to prison, they hadn’t paid any particular attention to his situation.
The only person with information had died of illness, making Noah Reyes’s journey to find his wife foreseeably difficult.
Of course, if he approached Glades Horne, or if Glades Horne sought him out, and the two could et just once, he might realize the person he was looking for was Adele Horne. Unfortunately...
Sotis, people who are right in front of you are pushed by fate to the ends of the earth, making them impossible to find.
「The Horne Family.」
After Jas Horne carried Ivan Horne to the elderly lady, he inquired about her health with concern. He then instructed the attendant nanny to help the old lady into the house. However, when she refused, he didn’t insist and happily carried Ivan Horne into the house.
Inside, Mila Anderson, Sovia Morris, Viola Hanley, and the old lady’s eldest daughter were playing cards in the Side Hall.
Gian Horne sat in the living room, bored and reading the newspaper.
"Uncle Four, why did you take so long to get here?"
With his arms wrapped affectionately around Jas Horne’s neck, the little boy blinked his large eyes at Jas Horne as soon as they entered the house and asked with a surprisingly mature air.
Jas Horne chuckled and planted several firm kisses on his handso face, then replied with a smile, "Uncle Four went to pick up your Aunt Rebecca."
Ivan Horne imdiately turned his head to look at Rebecca Hughes, who was carrying many gifts and following behind the uncle and nephew. He then said, "Uncle Four, she’s not Aunt Rebecca, she’s Fourth Auntie."
Rebecca Hughes had a wild and fun-loving personality, making her a favorite among the children.
Both Ivan Horne and Jimmy Horne had already accepted Rebecca Hughes as Jas Horne’s wife.
Ivan had never called her Aunt Rebecca, always "Fourth Auntie." Jimmy did the sa, also calling her "Fourth Auntie."
"Jas, you’re here! And Rebecca, you’ve co too. Co, sit down," Gian Horne said, lifting his gaze when he heard his precious grandson’s voice. Seeing his youngest son and Rebecca Hughes enter, he casually put down his newspaper and smiled, gesturing for Rebecca Hughes to sit.
Because he was trying very hard to salvage his marriage with Mila Anderson, he hadn’t gone out on New Year’s Day. This was unlike previous years when he would take Pheobe Rogers for a drive or go on holiday.
Mila Anderson didn’t go out, and neither did he. But staying in also left him without company. His children were indifferent to him, and it was clear they wouldn’t stay with him. The grandchildren were too young and too full of play to consider accompanying him. He could only sit bored in the living room, reading the newspaper.
In truth, over the past four years, he had made considerable effort and had changed a lot. One could say he had beco the very model of a family man.
But thirty years of betrayal could not be erased by his current repentance.
Those scars, that betrayal, that hurt—they still lingered in Mila Anderson’s heart, and even in the heart of Pheobe Rogers, who was in prison.
Pheobe Rogers had been sentenced to sixteen years and eight months of fixed-term imprisonnt. By the ti she would be released, she would be in her seventies, no longer able to fight, nor would she have the heart to fight for anything.
After her imprisonnt, Gian Horne had secretly visited her a few tis. Although he was very disappointed in Pheobe Rogers and their affection had gradually faded, he felt responsible for her current predicant. Thus, he would send her so clothes and money. Each visit lasted less than five minutes, and not a single word was spoken between them; Pheobe Rogers wasn’t even willing to face him.
