Julia Bluen was a bit worried about her young sister-in-law's future, which she feared would be filled with many hardships.
Adele Horne finally stopped throwing darts. She stood before the paper, looking at the black character riddled with holes like a hornet's nest. Suddenly, she reached out, tore the paper down, crumpled it fiercely, and threw it hard onto the ground. Still not satisfied, she lifted her foot and stomped on the crumpled paper again and again.
Her actions and the resentnt in her heart sohow caused Noah Reyes, far away, to suddenly feel a sense of oppression, as if a needle had pricked his heart, making him frown unconsciously.
At that mont, Noah Reyes was sitting in a particularly large conference room. It was a secret eting place for the high-level managers and elders of his organization; not even all of them knew its location. From the outside, this conference room was situated within a comrcial building, an integrated complex housing many company offices. It typically didn't attract much attention. Many people ca and went—so with status, so without, all sorts of individuals. Because it was so ordinary, it provided excellent cover for the mbers of Noah Reyes's organization.
The eting had ended, but those present were reluctant to leave. They were still trying to press Noah Reyes about an important issue they raised frequently, through various ans, almost daily: his marriage.
Before Noah Reyes now lay two rows of photographs, each featuring a beautiful woman with various skin tones and types of beauty, as if they were contestants in a beauty pageant.
When he frowned, the elder sitting to his left began repeating the sa oft-heard advice they had given countless tis. Seeing the frown, the elder knew Noah Reyes was displeased but insisted anyway, "Young Master, you're already in your thirties. It's ti to get married. When the Head of our organization was your age, his son was already ten years old."
Noah Reyes glanced casually at the two rows of photographs of beautiful won and responded indifferently, "An eyesore."
In his heart, there was only that little vixen.
To him, all other won looked plain and tasteless.
Naturally, the scene that flashed through his mind was when his car had nearly collided with hers.
She was a book nestled deep in his heart, one he was waiting to return to, to find her and slowly turn its pages.
"An eyesore?"
When everyone heard his comnt, their expressions turned peculiar, and they were utterly baffled. These beauties were ones they had expended a great deal of effort selecting, any one of whom could easily captivate any man. Yet their Young Master had just called them an eyesore! Normally, the Young Master hardly spoke a word, but now that he did…
Could it be that the Young Master wasn't fond of won?
At this thought, everyone's hearts leaped into their throats.
Noah Reyes didn't care what these people thought of him. He stood up, took Deon Myers with him, and left the conference room, vanishing from everyone's presence in an instant.
anwhile, no one outside could see him leaving the office building.
「Adele Horne was still stomping on the crumpled paper.」
Unable to help herself, Julia Bluen spoke out with a chuckle, "Adele, stop stomping. That paper is completely shredded already."
Startled by Julia's voice, Adele Horne spun around. Seeing Julia looking at her with an amused smile, her face reddened. With a mix of sha and irritation, she grumbled, "Sister-in-law, couldn't you have made a sound when you ca in? Did you want to scare to death?"
Julia stood up and walked over to her. She looked down at the crumpled paper, then at Adele, before saying with a laugh, "I did knock, but there was no answer. When I saw the door was unlocked, I pushed it open. I didn't expect to find soone teaching her baby to hate its father. Adele, be careful with prenatal influences."
Adele's face grew even redder. She turned her head away and sat back on the bed, sulking.
Julia sat down beside her, wrapped an arm around her shoulder, and said, "Alright, don't be like this. You don't need to worry about anything; you have us, your family, as your support. We'll all love your baby dearly. Don't harbor any more resentnt or hatred. Just think of this as a gift from heaven. I'm sure your baby will be very pretty and adorable, because our Adele is quite a beauty herself."
"Sister-in-law, I never knew you had such a smooth-talking side," Adele said, her mood improving after Julia's words. She glanced sideways at Julia, a smile already on her face.
Julia laughed. "There's a lot about you don't know. By the way, Adele, tonight Mom and I are going to Mrs. White's birthday party. Do you want to co with us?"
This was sothing she had just learned upon returning ho; Aunt i had told her, ntioning it was an instruction from her mother-in-law. To ensure she maintained an elegant and proper presence for the evening's party, her mother-in-law had already gone out for beauty treatnts.
In Upper Class Society, such parties were common. She had been invited to many similar events before but had always declined, citing her busy work schedule and lack of ti. She genuinely disliked attending such parties. Now, things were different. She wasn't working every day and was often idle at ho, so those socialites keen to curry favor with her tried every conceivable way to invite her. Fearing she would refuse, they had resorted to inviting her through Mila Anderson, her mother-in-law.
And now that Mila had left word, it would be difficult for her to refuse.
"I don't like going to those kinds of parties. I detest those so-called socialites; they're just a bunch of gossipy, boring won with no aningful activities, aside from drinking and chatting about scandals. Sister-in-law, you didn't use to attend these parties either. Why... It's because Mom asked you to go, right?"
"Probably because Mom was asked to bring along," Julia replied, not wanting to delve into how the request had been made.
"That's true. You're now a genuine socialite everyone wants to connect with. Sister-in-law, do you think it's easy being the lady of such a prestigious family?" Adele asked with a laugh, fully aware of her sister-in-law's current status and value.
The Horne family was already one that people flocked to, and it was common for everyone to try and flatter Glades Horne, the family's heir. As his wife, it was only natural that she would beco a pri target for invitations from these socialites.
