When he reached the elevator reserved for the CEO’s personal use, Hansen Ruiz ca to a stop.
Turning his head, he looked at the four n in black who had just arrived at the door. With a smile on his face and a warm, deep voice, he uttered words that hastened their pace, "Move quickly, don’t keep the CEO waiting."
The four n in black were uniformly tall, each standing at 180 centiters, with robust physiques and steady, forceful strides that made it clear they were no ordinary individuals. Each man had a taut expression, revealing no emotion easily, with eyes as sharp as an eagle’s.
Only when the four n had reached his side did Hansen Ruiz turn back to press the elevator button. Once the doors opened, he entered first, followed by the n.
Seeing that Hansen Ruiz, the CEO’s Assistant, who visited the company even less often than the CEO himself, had actually co in today, accompanied by four tall n who clearly suited the role of bodyguards, the staff all began to speculate. Could it be that the CEO was about to replace his bodyguards?
But hadn’t it been less than three years since the CEO last changed his bodyguards?
Glades Horne’s bodyguards were usually rotated every three years because he believed bodyguards who stayed by his side for too long would beco privy to so of his critical personal affairs. Therefore, as soon as their three-year term was up, they would be replaced. So who left him unsatisfied would even be replaced before completing three years.
At this mont, the staff saw Hansen Ruiz enter the company with the four n in black and head straight for the 68th floor. Who else could it be but the CEO seeking to change his bodyguards?
The elevator swiftly carried the five n to the 68th floor.
As the elevator doors opened, Secretary Yang quickly stepped out from behind her desk to greet Hansen Ruiz, saying, "Assistant, you’re here. The CEO has been waiting for quite a while." As she spoke, she turned and led the five n toward Glades Horne’s office.
"Selecting them was a bit of an effort," Hansen Ruiz said with a warm depth to his voice.
Secretary Yang didn’t say anything in response. She approached the office door and knocked. Only after hearing Glades Horne’s stern voice from inside did she push the door open and enter. Hansen Ruiz followed her in, while the four n in black remained outside.
Glades Horne was standing in front of a snack cabinet, removing so snacks that had sat for a few days and replacing them with fresh ones. When Secretary Yang entered and saw his actions, she paused, a look of surprise passing across her face, which she quickly concealed before saying, "CEO, the Assistant is here."
"Mhm, I know," Glades Horne replied without turning his head, continuing to organize the snacks.
Hansen Ruiz signaled with his eyes for Secretary Yang to leave and stepped forward, positioning himself beside Glades Horne. He glanced at the assortnt on the shelf and said with a smile, "Are these for Julia?" He picked up a pack of pistachios and tore it open, pouring a few into his palm to examine closely. Smiling, he asked Glades Horne, who glanced sideways at him before continuing with his task, "What’s so good about these? Why does she like them so much? It seems Ruby Bluen has never eaten these before."
"If she likes them, that’s good enough. They’re not for you to eat," Glades Horne shot back with an irritated glance.
"Is the makeshift snack cabinet holding up?" Hansen Ruiz casually sat on the armrest of the sofa, peeling pistachios and asking.
Glades Horne didn’t respond.
"You really do know her well, aware of everything she likes to eat. But for soone as shrewd as you to care for her so deeply, yet be blind for years—quite rare," Hansen Ruiz’s last comnt carried a teasing tone, referring to when Glades learned at the Civil Affairs Office that he had been in love with the wrong person.
After stocking the snack cabinet with new items, Glades Horne filled a large bag with the old ones. He then shoved this large bag of removed snacks into Hansen’s arms and said in a low voice, "Dispose of them!"
"? How am I supposed to deal with this garbage?" Hansen Ruiz exclaid with a laugh. He set the bag of snacks down on the coffee table and followed Glades, who had taken his seat behind the large, dark desk. Hansen settled into a black chair opposite the desk. He placed the open bag of pistachios in front of Glades and chuckled, "Your girl really knows how to eat; this stuff isn’t bad. Have a try."
Glades Horne didn’t reach for them, only casting Hansen Ruiz a sidelong glance before responding, "Anything Julia likes to eat is naturally good stuff."
Hansen Ruiz was montarily taken aback before smiling and saying, "I knew you’d be whipped. Anything she likes, you’ll say is good. Tell , what is the power of love that it can turn the world’s smartest man into the biggest fool?"
"Get lost," Glades Horne replied, picking up a folder and pretending to swipe it at Hansen Ruiz, who quickly made a gesture of surrender. The two n shared a laugh.
"I’ve brought Julia’s bodyguards; do you want to et them?" Hansen Ruiz shifted back to the main topic after their laughter. Half an hour earlier, he had received a call from Glades Horne, instructing him to select four bodyguards and bring them to the company. That’s why he sat here now, teasing his boss, his benefactor.
Glades Horne gave him an "Isn’t that obvious?" look.
If he hadn’t wished to see them, why would he have ordered him to co to the company?
Hansen Ruiz imdiately picked up the phone on Glades’s desk and pressed the direct line to the secretarial desk, asking Secretary Yang to let the four n in black co in.
As Hansen made the call, Glades leaned back in his office chair. His expression once again beca stern, his handso face set firm. The smile in his eyes was gone, replaced by a sharp and cold countenance.
Hansen Ruiz maintained his usual warmth; he was a smiling tiger, often concealing a blade. To Glades, he was a friend, an assistant, and a confidant. But to the rest of the staff, he was a man-eating tiger in human skin—one who could make you disappear without a trace if you crossed him.
After Secretary Yang brought the four n in black inside, she left the room again.
"CEO, these four are the ones you requested. Each is a graduate from the police academy with excellent martial arts skills and ample bodyguard experience. They’re extrely dedicated and will more than suffice in protecting Julia," Hansen Ruiz said, standing up and introducing the four n in black to Glades Horne one by one.
Glades Horne’s handso face was expressionless, his piercing eagle eyes, as deep as twin pools of water, roved over the four n with scrutiny. After a mont, he withdrew his judging gaze, stood up, and walked around from behind his desk to the sofa set. He sat down on a single armchair and then addressed the four n coldly, "Sit."
