"Julia..."
"Please call Mrs. Horne or Lady Horne. I'm not familiar with you, so you shouldn't use my first na," Julia Bluen said distantly and coldly. Before understanding the reasons behind everything, she wouldn't show a friendly face to anyone detrintal to Adele Horne.
The fear Tobby Walker had instilled in Adele Horne was now completely replaced by a profound sense of being moved. Julia's protectiveness made her want to cry. She was unfortunate, yet she was also fortunate. She had a sister-in-law who treated her like a true sister. The more Julia protected her, the more she inwardly regretted her past actions.
"Lady Horne, this is really a misunderstanding, I..."
"Lady Horne, please let explain this matter," Flynn Walker interjected, unable to bear seeing Mrs. Wang's embarrassed look. "My na is Flynn Walker, a professor at a well-known university in this city. Mrs. Wang's son is my student. I was supposed to be the one coming for the blind date, but then..." It had all started because of him, and he wouldn't let others take the bla. If Julia wanted to pursue the matter, she should pursue it with him.
Flynn Walker repeated what he had told Tobby Walker and also recounted how he was suddenly knocked unconscious before leaving his house.
After his explanation, the look on Julia's face softened slightly as she faced Mrs. Wang.
"Lady Horne, this whole thing was my brother's and my fault; it has nothing to do with Mrs. Wang. I am extrely sorry for the shock Miss Horne suffered, and I apologize to her on my brother's behalf." Flynn Walker was indeed a gentle and reasonable person.
He didn't ask Julia to forgive his brother; instead, he apologized to Adele Horne on his brother's behalf.
Tobby Walker had already been detained by the police and was awaiting the Courtroom's decision. Flynn Walker wasn't at fault, Mrs. Wang wasn't at fault; it was all Tobby Walker's lustful mistake.
After the entire incident was clarified, Julia said nothing more. Accompanied by Rachel Bailey, she led Adele Horne down the steps in front of the Police Station.
Mila Anderson was left behind, though.
Julia was angry with her mother-in-law! Even though she could understand that her mother-in-law had acted for Adele's sake, it was truly wrong of her to pressure Adele into this blind date. With the Horne Family's power and wealth, couldn't they provide Adele and her future baby with a stable living environnt? Let others say what they want; after all, she couldn't really seal their mouths. But it was because of others' words that Mila felt Adele was a nagging worry. She wanted to alleviate this concern by marrying Adele off, naively thinking it was the best arrangent for her. Adele might be pregnant before marriage, but she was still young, with a long life ahead, and deserved to pursue the life she wanted. What her mother-in-law considered a good arrangent was, in reality, another form of psychological harm to Adele. It made her feel disliked and unwelco by her own family, as if she had embarrassed the Horne Family and her mother was anxiously trying to push her away.
"Julia," Mila Anderson called softly, a trace of embarrassnt on her face.
Julia was angry with her! Was she wrong? All she wanted was for Adele to marry a good man who could offer her a shoulder to lean on. Was she wrong for that too?
Mila Anderson quickly followed.
Before Julia could start the car, Mila climbed into the back seat.
Adele Horne drove her own car.
Sitting in the back seat, Mila instinctively tried to explain to Julia, "Julia, please don't tell Glades or anyone else at ho about what happened today, okay?"
Julia pursed her lips and remained silent.
Rachel Bailey, sitting in the passenger seat, also kept quiet.
The black rcedes pulled out of the Police Station, heading towards Golden Kirin Garden. Pedestrians on the streets had thinned out; so factories had already resud operations today.
"Julia..."
"Mom, I hope you won't force Adele to go on blind dates anymore," Julia finally said, her words a clear plea for her mother-in-law to stop making things difficult for her sister-in-law. "If Adele wishes to marry, she should be allowed to make her own choice. Imagine if I hadn't co by today—what would the consequences have been? Isn't that just rubbing salt in Adele's wounds? Mom, I know you care about Adele and want her to be happy, but these things can't be rushed."
She could believe that all mothers wish for their children's happiness. She could believe that Mila Anderson did everything for Adele's sake. However, most people outside were eyeing the Horne Family's money. And those introduced n, who claid not to care about Adele's situation—what were they really thinking? Most importantly, she felt that Adele wasn't ready to marry at this point.
Mila Anderson didn't respond; sitting in the back seat, she quietly wiped her tears away.
As a mother, she felt her daughter's suffering deeply, a pain that pierced her heart. If she had known the blind date would cause her daughter new suffering, she wouldn't have let her go, not even if a gun were pointed at her head. She couldn't bear the thought of her daughter being alone for life; she truly couldn't.
Julia didn't speak again either.
The car lapsed into silence.
"RING, RING, RING..." Rachel Bailey's phone suddenly rang, shattering the silence in the car. Rachel took out her phone and saw it was an unfamiliar number. She frowned, debating whether to answer.
"RING, RING, RING..." In the silent car, even the slightest noise seed particularly jarring. The ringing persisted, and Rachel finally pressed the answer button.
"Rachel Bailey, where are you? Co back and open the door for right now!" Mrs. Ruiz's extrely impatient voice imdiately ca through the phone.
Upon hearing Mrs. Ruiz's voice, Rachel felt her hackles rise. She always felt a certain animosity towards her mother-in-law. Although she was trying her best to tolerate Mrs. Ruiz, she couldn't shake off the image of her mother-in-law's rcenary nature.
"Mom, where are you?" Rachel asked.
"Where else could I be? I told you to open the door, so of course, I'm at my son's doorstep! Are you with Hansen?" Mrs. Ruiz's tone was remarkably impatient, as if Rachel had offended her again.
