Usually, Ruby could support him, but now she was drunk and seed to lack the strength when she tried. She had only just helped him up when he collapsed onto the bed, causing a heart-wrenching pain to shoot through his legs.
Mmm.
He couldn't help but let out a low moan of pain. His complexion turned sowhat pale, and he felt utterly despondent.
Ruby collapsed onto the bed beside him. Hearing his low moan, she seed to snap out of her stupor. She imdiately sat bolt upright, her drunken eyes wide with panic. The alcohol appeared to have mostly worn off. The next mont, she hurriedly asked, "Marcel, did I hurt you? I'm sorry, I'm so sorry. Is it serious? Should I go find Dr. Ray?"
After saying that, she tried to slide off the bed.
"Ruby," Marcel Horne quickly held onto her, stopping her from leaving.
He didn't want to involve the family doctor and once again beco the subject of his family's worry and sympathy.
Her careless attempt to help him, coupled with her lack of strength, had caused his fall and the subsequent pain in his legs. If only she had been a bit more careful, his legs wouldn't be hurting this much. Thinking of her drunken state, he couldn't bring himself to bla her.
"Don't go, leave so dignity."
Ruby shook her head, trying to further clear the lingering effects of the alcohol.
Gently caressing Marcel Horne's legs, she asked, her voice laced with heartache, "Are you sure we don't need Dr. Ray? He's right downstairs. Or, should I find soone else?"
"Don't go," Marcel Horne hurriedly pulled her back to his side.
"Tonight is our wedding night, and I don't want anyone else in our room."
Seeing her distress, Marcel Horne's heart ached for her. He gently took her hand and said in a husky voice, "Ruby, it's late. Let's go to sleep."
The night was long, filled with deep emotions.
In the large room on the second floor, Glades Horne lay in bed, holding Julia Bluen, who had just erged from her shower, close. They whispered softly to each other.
Glades Horne loved to rest his hand on Julia's abdon, where their baby was growing inside her slightly swollen belly. At three months along, it wouldn't be long before he could feel the baby's movents. Actually, a three-month-old fetus can move, but the movents are so subtle that the mother can hardly feel them.
"Baby, give daddy a little kick," Glades Horne said, his handso face filled with a sentint known as paternal love. His usually stern features softened like gentle spring waters, his eyes brimming with anticipation.
Julia chuckled. He was even more anxious than she, the mother-to-be, was.
"After the New Year, she'll start kicking."
"Julia, when the baby starts moving, make sure I'm the first one you tell," Glades Horne said as he slid down the bed and burrowed under the covers. He pressed his face against Julia's slightly swollen belly. He could feel the baby living happily inside his beloved wife's womb. This heartwarming sensation always made his heart swell, filling him with an inexpressible joy.
"The New Year is almost here, and after that, my days will be quite boring. By the way, Adele has seed a bit down these past two days. Her pregnancy symptoms are much stronger than mine; I need to make so ti to be with her," Julia said, suddenly changing the subject to her sister-in-law.
Adele Horne was two months pregnant. Although she had decided to keep the baby, the psychological pressure of being pregnant out of wedlock was imnse. And because she was also pregnant, Julia no longer required her to go to the company for work. Adele spent her days at ho, hardly daring to go outside, and had grown sowhat quiet and withdrawn.
She was afraid to go out, terrified of being discovered if she vomited.
The outside world was still unaware that the dignified Miss Adele Horne was pregnant out of wedlock.
In truth, she could have hidden away if she had wanted to. Glades Horne could have protected her impeccably, ensuring no word got out. But she insisted on facing reality, saying she would have to confront it sooner or later.
Marcel Horne and Ruby Bluen finally finding their happiness together and marrying also profoundly impacted Adele Horne.
