Rachel Bailey hadn’t entered Julia Bluen’s number yet when her phone rang first. The call was from another unfamiliar local landline number.

Whose number is this? Rachel muttered to herself, looking at the unfamiliar number, but she answered it anyway. To her surprise, the call was from the Police Station. They inford her that her bicycle had been kindly turned in by soone and asked her to co and collect it.

A bicycle?

Oh, my God! She had completely forgotten her bicycle, the very thing she needed for her job hunt. After expressing her gratitude, Rachel didn’t rest any longer. She slid out of bed and hurried from her rented apartnt to retrieve her bike from the Police Station.

Half an hour later, Rachel erged from the Police Station, pushing her bicycle.

RING RING RING...

Her annoying ringtone sounded again.

Just as she was about to mount her bike, Rachel had to answer another call from yet another unfamiliar number.

"May I ask if this is Miss Rachel Bailey?"

A gentle and very polite voice reached her, causing Rachel to freeze. Who is this? Such a coquettish voice, yet they know and have my phone number—are they a relative or friend?

"Speaking. Who is this?"

She racked her brain, but couldn’t recall any family or friends who spoke in such a flirtatious tone.

"Miss Bailey, hello. I am the Secretary to the General Manager at XX Company. Our Finance Departnt needs a skilled accountant, and we’d like to offer you the position. If Miss Bailey is interested, would you be able to co to our company for a discussion soon?"

Good news?

But I just left Cosmos Group and haven’t even submitted my résumé to any company—how could soone be offering a job out of the blue? Could it be a scam call? With scamrs all over the place these days, I can’t afford to be fooled.

With this thought, Rachel chuckled nervously, then her smile vanished. She replied coolly, "Sorry, I’m not looking for a job right now." And with that, she hung up.

RING RING RING...

She had just hung up when the phone imdiately rang again. Why are they so persistent? she thought, her expression hardening. She had just hung up, and they were calling back! Swiftly pressing the answer button, her voice beca irritated and louder than before, "I already said I’m not looking for a job! If you can’t find soone, go recruit on the streets... Wait, what? What company? Not XX Company anymore? And who’s your sister? Chief Financial Officer? Known for a long ti that I’m outstanding at my job? Go fool soone else! I am not looking for a job, and I wouldn’t associate with you for the next eight hundred years! Big scamr, don’t you dare call again, or I’ll block your number!"

Receiving yet another call about a job offer, Rachel felt her luck had truly hit rock bottom. It seed she was encountering one scamr after another.

RING RING RING...

Before she could even finish her silent lant, the phone rang insistently again.

They were all calls from various companies and factories, every one of them wanting to hire her as an accountant. Of course, having majored in accounting, she would be looking for accounting positions if she were job hunting. But I haven’t even sent out my résumé yet! How are so many companies contacting ? So of the companies genuinely existed—she’d heard of them. So were even located near Cosmos Group.

Could working at Cosmos Group and being so efficient have made famous in the accounting industry?

Impossible!

Then, what on earth is going on?

How could such absurd things be happening?

As new calls kept coming in, Rachel had no choice but to turn her phone off. Only then did she find so peace. She quickly mounted her bike and pedaled furiously all the way back to her rented apartnt.

BEEP BEEP.

Suddenly, a car horn sounded from beside her.

Rachel instinctively glanced to the side. A sedan slowed down, keeping pace with her bicycle. A woman in the passenger seat rolled down the window, beaming at her as she said, "Miss Rachel Bailey, right? I’m the Chief Financial Officer from Valence Group. Our group desperately needs a professional accountant. Would Miss Bailey be interested in coming to our group for a discussion? We guarantee the salary and benefits will satisfy you."

Rachel felt a surge of disbelief. These scamrs are too much! Not only did they find my phone number, but they also know what I look like? Now they’re even coming to try and trick in person?

BEEP BEEP—

Before she knew it, several more cars had appeared, all honking at her. The passengers, claiming to be Chief Financial Officers, secretaries, HR managers, and so on, all shouted, urging Rachel to co work for their companies.

This is insane!

The bizarre situation sent shivers down her spine, and she hurriedly pedaled faster.

But how can I outrun them? They’re in cars, and I’m on a bike. No matter how fast I pedal, I can’t get away!

Suddenly, a police car approached from the opposite direction.

Rachel accelerated, swerving desperately towards the police car.

SCREECH! The police car slamd to a halt. The cars tailing her also braked hard. The sound of screeching tires filled the air, as if a major traffic accident had just occurred.

Rachel leaped off her bike, ignoring the police officer’s dark expression inside the car. She pushed her bike right up to the police car and banged on the window, frantically shouting, "Open up!"

Inside, Benjamin Robinson frowned but unlocked the doors anyway.

Rachel imdiately opened the rear car door, hoisted her bicycle and shoved it into the back seat of Benjamin’s car. His already stern expression darkened further. BANG! After slamming the car door shut, Rachel scrambled into the passenger seat like a monkey. She turned to Benjamin and urged, "Officer, it’s an ergency! Drive! We need to lose those ridiculous people who clearly have nothing better to do!"

Benjamin turned his head. His deep, somber eyes fixed on Rachel for a mont, his lips pressed together even more tightly than a clam’s shell.

Without a word, he stepped on the gas and drove away.

The people chasing Rachel, hoping to recruit her, temporarily gave up when they saw her get into the police car. However, they all unanimously headed towards Rachel’s rented apartnt. After all, their companies had used every ans at their disposal to gather all of Rachel’s information. They saw her as a golden opportunity to discuss business deals with Valence Group—who wouldn’t seize such a chance?
