At the critical mont, it was You Changjin who stepped up. He said, "Teacher Yuan, please stop making things difficult for my student. I still have sothing to say to him!"
With that, he grabbed Zhou Yuwen and ran out of the office.
Noticing that Teacher Yuan didn't follow, he breathed a sigh of relief and said they had finally shaken her off.
"This Teacher Yuan in the office is quite a handful, 32 years old and still not married, not very popular in the office, likes to post so inexplicable things on her social dia, as if no man is worthy of her—just don't provoke her."
You Changjin took Zhou Yuwen to the floor-to-ceiling window at the end of the corridor while taking out a cigarette and talking.
He had intended to smoke himself but, as though suddenly rembering Zhou Yuwen, he offered the first one to Yuwen instead.
Zhou Yuwen gestured that he didn't smoke.
Zhou Yuwen had always thought of You Changjin as a neat and tidy little fat man with glasses, a model gentleman, yet during this eting, Changjin was suddenly smoking.
This surprised Zhou Yuwen.
But he saw You Changjin unbutton the top two buttons that were tight around his neck and skillfully lit the cigarette, taking two drags.
"Phew, the office's heater is on all day, it's suffocating," said You Changjin.
Watching his increasingly adept mannerism, Zhou Yuwen chuckled and asked, "When did you learn to smoke?"
Only then did You Changjin realize the cigarette in his hand and let out a bitter laugh before saying, "Yuwen, I'm really struggling."
It had been almost one and a half months since You Changjin and Jiang Xinyi broke up. To say he had gotten over it—Changjin had, to so degree, but he still felt hurt whenever Jiang Xinyi was ntioned.
He had no one else to confide in, the only one familiar with Jiang Xinyi was probably Zhou Yuwen.
A few days ago, Changjin had run into Jiang Xinyi at the school.
"Is she still working at your company?" Changjin asked.
Zhou Yuwen nodded and said, "If you don't like it, should I fire her?"
You Changjin quickly waved his hand: "No, no, she joined your company because of , but I don't want my reasons to affect your relationship with her."
"Xinyi is a good girl, very capable at her job. If she likes working there, please take good care of her for ," Changjin said earnestly.
Zhou Yuwen chuckled, asking if he had let go that easily?
You Changjin sighed and said, "What else can I do if I don't let go?"
"What is this thing called love that makes people willing to live and die together?" Changjin said philosophically as he took off his glasses and wiped the dust on them.
He said he had read Yuwen's novel.
It was quite good.
"You have talent in this field, so you should definitely develop it. Our major has so difficulties with employnt. If you ever need anything, just co to . I'll help you as much as I can," said You Changjin while patting Zhou Yuwen's arm.
Zhou Yuwen nodded and said he understood.
"If there's nothing else, can I go now?"
"Yeah, go ahead. I'll head back after I finish this cigarette," Changjin nodded.
As Zhou Yuwen was about to leave, You Changjin ultimately couldn't help but call out to him.
Zhou Yuwen asked what was up.
You Changjin hesitated, then said, "If you see Xinyi... could you tell her not to avoid when she sees ? We might not be lovers, but we can still be friends..."
Zhou Yuwen couldn't help but chuckle, "Why don't you just tell her yourself?"
"I'd want to, but she's deleted my contact information. She turns around as soon as she sees ," Changjin let out a sigh.
"You must've said a lot of ssed-up stuff to her," Yuwen said.
Changjin's expression was complex, unsure of what to say.
Zhou Yuwen smiled and said, "Alright, I'll talk to her. If she dares ignore you again, I'll fire her."
You Changjin quickly said, "Don't pressure her..."
"Actually, she could find a much better job... your job is just... a bit more relaxed..."
"Oh, seems like Teacher You still looks down on my company," Zhou Yuwen said.
"No, that's not it."
You Changjin was an honest man. Zhou Yuwen teased him a bit, and then stayed with him until he finished the cigarette before leaving.
After You Changjin returned to the office, he found several female teachers from the next office were also there.
"Hey, where did your writer student go? Why did he leave?"
"Yeah, we ca over especially to see him, to see what kind of student could charm our college's girls so much."
"Seriously, Little You, this isn't fun."
"Ladies, can you please stop teasing my student?" You Changjin clasped his hands together in a pleading gesture.
Zhou Yuwen left the administrative building all by himself, and while taking the elevator, he overheard two girls whispering nearby.
"That's him..."
"Who?"
"The writer."
"The writer? Where?"
Clearly, Zhou Yuwen wasn't universally known, and there were still students who were clueless about him. Their startled whispers made the girl who wanted to talk quietly feel quite embarrassed.
Fortunately, Zhou Yuwen was good-natured and just smiled.
He turned and exited the elevator.
It was his first day back at school, and the feeling was okay. Even though he had beco famous, it didn't influence Zhou Yuwen too much, but it wasn't a big problem either.
Driving his black BMW, he passed through the teaching buildings, near a cafeteria, and on the tree-lined path to Entrepreneurship Park, he encountered the lady in the cheongsam he had t at the school gate.
The lady in the cheongsam seed to be in trouble. It was clear she was usually pampered and not used to walking much. To her dismay, the campus was huge, and she hadn't walked far in her elegant high heels before one snapped.
This left the elegant lady in a rather awkward predicant.
She was squatting down by the side of the road, looking at her broken heel, at a loss for what to do.
The woman, who owned a Maybach, was indeed a rich lady.
Even though she was no longer young,
Zhou Yuwen didn't mind showing his gentlemanly manners.
So, the BMW X7 slowly pulled up beside the rich lady.
"Aunty, what happened?" Zhou Yuwen rolled down his window.
Jiang Xinyi's mother, or Liu Jing, was in a difficult situation. She had previously t Zhou Yuwen at the school gate, so she wasn't a stranger to him. "Young man, my heel suddenly broke," she said.
The more pampered a woman is, the clumsier she tends to beco with simple things like this, as they often can't let go of their elegance.
It's not like she could just take off her high heels and walk back, could she?
Zhou Yuwen parked by the side of the road and took out so cotton slippers from the trunk of his car.
"Aunty, co on, wear these slippers for now?"
Zhou Yuwen's trunk was well-stocked, not only with cotton slippers but also with a small stool.
In Liu Jing's most embarrassed mont, Zhou Yuwen was able to give her the utmost dignity.
For a mont, Liu Jing's impression of him greatly improved, as she saw the young man tall and sturdy, his fra looking very proper—far more robust than her driver, Little Li.
Zhou Yuwen set up the small stool and then helped Liu Jing sit down.
Liu Jing slipped off her broken high heels.
Her feet, clad in flesh-colored stockings, slid into the cotton slippers, and indeed, the slippers were much more comfortable than high heels.
Liu Jing breathed a sigh of relief, and her gaze softened considerably as she looked at Zhou Yuwen: "Young man, I really want to thank you. If it weren't for you, I wouldn't have known what to do."
Zhou Yuwen smiled and said, "It's no trouble at all, aunty. Where are you heading to? You don't seem to co to our school often; it's actually quite big. Are you looking for your child? If it's the dormitory buildings, they should be in that direction."
Liu Jing sat on the stool, sighed, and said she was there to see her daughter.
"My daughter works in your school's Entrepreneurship Park. I just wanted to see her working environnt, who knew your school's pathways would be so difficult to walk."
Zhou Yuwen listened and couldn't help but smile awkwardly, saying it was indeed quite the coincidence.
"I'm actually on my way to Entrepreneurship Park. How about it, aunty, would you like a ride in my car?"
Liu Jing naturally agreed. As a well-to-do lady, walking in high heels all the way from the school gate to here had already been a struggle. With Zhou Yuwen willing to lend a helping hand, how could Liu Jing refuse?
However, she still politely hesitated: "Is that okay? Wouldn't it be too much trouble for you?"
"Not at all, aunty, it's on the way," Zhou Yuwen said with a slight smile.
