High above the crowded streets, a figure watched Alex from the clouds. In the form of a small bird, a sort of eagle, their eyes were carefully focusing on Alex and his movents.

Alex normally wouldn't have been able to detect soone specifically watching him like this, since using his spatial perception to detect any living beings didn't work in the Primordial Expanse.

But when they flew circles around him in the sky like that, it would be hard for him not to notice. He didn't exactly know they were a living being for certain, but the shape and movent pattern told him that it was a bird type creature, but the fact that it circled him in particular wherever he went was what gave away that it wasn't just an innocent bird.

'They must think I can't detect them.' Alex thought to himself, ruminating over his next steps.

The figure cloaked in the guise of an eagle glided slightly through the air at an altitude of over 100 kilotres, so they presud that a puny 'C rank Mutant class' like Alex wouldn't be able to perceive them.

It seed the disguised aura he had Brontes place over the two of them had paid off though, as the eagle didn't suspect a thing.

'Luckily I didn't react imdiately to their presence when I detected it.' Alex sighed a little in relief.

As he couldn't be sure at first whether it was actually watching him, he almost turned around to look up at it to get a view of it directly.

Doing that would have just given away the fact that he'd detected them, and it would have spoiled his ruse of being a weak C tier awakened.

From the vantage point it held, the observer had an unparalleled view of the entire city's bustling streets, yet they chose to specifically focus on Alex's area to circle. This told him enough he needed to know – they were targeting him for sure. Its focus never strayed from Alex.

The Observer above suddenly squawked once, maybe so sort of signal, before it vanished into the bank of clouds.

Alex no longer detected anything above him, even at an altitude of 25,000 kilotres, so that should have ant for certain that they were truly gone.

He remained motionless, with his fingers brushing against a small trinket displayed at the rchant's stall. His eyes remained trained on the object, as the rchant themself eyed him cautiously from the side, probably suspecting he was a possible thief of sorts.

"See sothing you like?" The rchant asked, with his voice breaking Alex out of his thoughts.

Alex shook his head in response, offering a polite smile. "Just browsing."

Moving on from the stall, he quickened his pace.

If this watcher wasn't a part of the city guard, then he had absolutely no clue who was watching him and why. This was sothing he definitely didn't like hovering over his shoulder after just entering the city.

The guards were predictable, their roles were straightforward and their motives were clear: to make sure this newcor didn't cause any trouble and to maintain order. But a shadowy, unforeseen presence operating outside of that structure? That an't intrigue – he'd caught soone's attention.

Unfortunately, Alex had already assud a weaker persona, so he couldn't overtly investigate the presence that had suddenly gained an interest in him. This was one of the downsides of wanting to keep a low profile: when people like this wanted to snoop on him or cause trouble that wasn't too serious, he couldn't do a single damn thing about it unless he was willing to blow his cover.

And now that the observer had disappeared as opposed to flying away to lad sowhere else in the city, he had no way of tracking them either, so the trail had already run cold.

'Maybe I shouldn't have chosen the persona of a Tar…' Alex thought to himself, feeling a little regret.

But he knew that if he didn't choose this route then he wouldn't have had such an easy ti entering the city. Well… he could have done if Brontes had revealed he could simply enter a Taming space BEFORE they entered the damn place…

But tha past was the past, Alex wouldn't dwell on it too much.

Disguised as a C tier, Alex intentionally dulled his aura to avoid any unwanted attention. But it seed that it perhaps might have instead had the opposite effect. His ploy had sohow drawn the interest of soone.

He slipped into an alleywaym, with the dim lights of the streets not reaching this area, offering him a reprise from the bustling crowds outside. Leaning against a stone wall, Alex exhaled slowly, letting his thoughts take over. His thoughts pieced together the fragnts of information he knew so far.

'High altitude. Masked movents. No detectable energy signature after disappearing. This isn't just so random street thug or curious guard.'

"Damn it!" Alex cursed under his breath, clenching his fists while he was at it.

"I hate playing blind."

He wanted to act, to utilise his full prowess to investigate this unkown and new presence, but his cover left him shackled.

Every move he made would cause ripples of information and rumours that would eventually find their way back to those who were watching him.

'This is the exact type of thing I ca here to avoid!'

Alex had beco sick of being shackled to the system that society had created to maintain order over the ordinary people, but he was no ordinary person anymore!

And yet, despite this, here he found himself. He was shackled by the very rules he had created for himself barely even an hour prior, the irony…

'Whatever. There's nothing I can do about it for now, so I can only play dumb for the ti being.'

Alex exited the alley way after inhaling a sharp breath and calming his turbulent thoughts.

Whoever, or whatever, was watching him was almost certainly reporting to soone else. He could only remain patient to ensure he could figure out just who this was.
