She pressed the button again, harder this ti, but the door remained stubbornly shut.

"What the—?"

She muttered, irritation building in her chest.

She tried again, her hand slamming into the panel with more force, but still, the door didn't budge.

Locked.

A flicker of sothing darker ignited inside her, and she felt her rage begin to bubble up.

How dare he lock her in here? How dare he take control of the ship without consulting her?

Mira's breathing quickened as the anger surged, hot and overwhelming, and for a mont, she considered tearing the door off its hinges.

She could rip through the tal like paper if she wanted to, and the thought of it was intoxicating.

Her fists clenched, her knuckles turning white.

It would be so easy.

She could feel the tal warping under her fingertips.

But she hesitated, the anger battling with logic.

Destroying the door ant damaging the ship, and out here, in the vast, unforgiving expanse of space, they couldn't afford even the smallest error.

They were light years from any civilization, any hope of rescue.

And no matter how powerful she had beco, neither she nor Alex were capable of surviving for prolonged periods of ti in the void.

Her mind quickly shifted to the idea of entering the Void dinsion to bypass the door entirely and re-enter the physical universe on the other side, but even that was quickly pushed aside.

She had never tried doing such a trick in a moving spacecraft, so she had no clue how it would work.

Would it allow her to do as she wanted, or would she instantly find herself out in the void of space, with the ship far gone?

With no way to know, she wasn't willing to risk it in a situation as frivolous as this.

The frustration simred just beneath her skin, but she forced herself to take a breath, to think.

Alex.

This had to be his doing.

The ship had stopped for only a brief mont before starting again.

That was no coincidence.

He had done sothing, and now he had locked her in here.

But why? What the hell was going on?

Mira began to pace the length of the room, her mind racing.

Ever since Gorath, things between her and Alex had grown tense.

They hadn't spoken much about the changes they had felt since the "gift" was bestowed upon them, but the distance between them had grown undeniable.

His silence, his hesitation… had he finally snapped?

Had sothing in him broken?

She cursed under her breath, her fists still clenched tightly at her sides.

If Alex was losing control, she needed to get out of here.

Fast.

But brute force wasn't an option—not yet.

Not if she didn't want to jeopardise both their lives.

She needed to play this carefully.

Mira glanced around her chamber, assessing the situation.

She had no control over the ship's systems from here, but she had other ans of communication.

She walked over to the console on the far side of the room, her fingers moving swiftly across the keypad as she tried to override the lock on the door.

Nothing.

"Damn it, Alex."

She muttered, her frustration mounting.

He had shut her out completely.

For a mont, she stood in the middle of the room, torn between her rising anger and the icy calm that had settled in her since Gorath.

She could feel the coldness, a deep, unsettling detachnt that made her wonder if she even cared what Alex was doing.

The part of her that was still herself wanted answers.

The part of her that had changed... wasn't so sure.

Still, she couldn't ignore the gnawing suspicion that sothing was very, very wrong.

And if Alex had locked her in here, it was only a matter of ti before she found out why.

Mira pressed her hands against the cold surface of the door, her head leaning forward against the tal as she took a deep breath.

She had to be patient, for now.

But if Alex thought locking her in would stop her from finding out what was going on, he was sorely mistaken.

She would wait.

But not for long.

Five days passed, but for Mira, it felt like an eternity.

The small chamber she had been confined to beca suffocating, a cage holding back her growing frustration.

Every second that ticked by, her mind warred between cold detachnt and simring rage.

Alex had locked her in without explanation, and though she had initially fought against it, she'd forced herself to wait—wait for the right mont.

She knew they were nearing Gorath.

In the stillness of the past few days, Mira had replayed the events over and over in her mind, trying to make sense of the shifts she felt in herself—and in Alex.

They had been comrades for years, fought side by side, and trusted one another implicitly.

But after Gorath, after the gift… everything had unravelled.

A small chi echoed in her chamber, jolting her out of her thoughts.

The ship had dropped out of warp.

She could feel the subtle deceleration, the shift in the ship's thrusters adjusting for sublight travel.

They had arrived.

Mira stepped toward the door, the tal surface cold under her touch.

She waited for the lock to disengage, expecting the AI to allow her access once they'd reached their destination.

But the door remained sealed.

Her jaw clenched.

He was still keeping her in here.

A sense of betrayal washed over her, but it was quickly replaced by a deep breath of patience.

This wasn't going to last much longer.

She had been patient, but now that they were back in the Telorn system, near Gorath, she would have her answers.

Just seeing the planet through the tiny window her room had access to already sent so uncertain emotions through her, though she couldn't quite recall why…

She paced the length of the room, her fists tightening with every step.

The planet's presence was already tugging at the edges of her mind, a faint hum she couldn't quite place.
