It was long past midnight when Shane reached the shelter with his dirty and muddied appearance, which attracted the guards' attention.
Oddly enough, the sa two young guards were on patrol, like a few days ago when Shane had barely managed to reach the shelter gate.
They were astonished to see a young shabby boy approach the gate and they couldn't distinguish him from so foreign bipedal races.
Only when they looked at the one-ter-long snake on the boy's shoulder did they feel that he was familiar and looked at him with surprise.
Still being true to their duty, they ordered him from quite a distance away
"Stop there! If you're a human, please store away your weapon and co closer with your hands on the back of your head!"
Even though they estimated that the muddy bipedal being they saw was Shane, who they had taken to an Inn less than two days ago, it was better to be safe than sorry.
Shane followed their instructions, as it was easier to cooperate than argue needlessly. Also, the young guards looked familiar to him.
"Oh! Are both of you the guards who took to the inn?" Shane asked.
When he saw the expressions on the guards' faces while walking towards them with his hands positioned as ordered, he imdiately knew that he was right.
He was relieved and decided to talk to them for a few minutes, once he showed them his ID from the system, with his human race written over it.
These guards were at most 20 years old and at the Expert stage with a mana purity of over 60%.
They were most likely accumulating funds to purchase higher manuals or use the occupational benefits as guards, as they protected humanity.
This alone would an that they had received resources to cultivate and for combat training, which benefited many poor youths, luring them into becoming shelter guards.
Both youths were nice and kind to talk to, but unfortunately, they rejected his proposal of accepting a small token of appreciation from him for their help the other day. Shane had planned to return the favor after accumulating a small fortune but their denial left him sowhat dejected.
But even so, he shared the information about a possible beast war near the shelter, between the purple furred wolves, and most likely, the scaled lizards.
However, the latter was rather unofficial and he didn't have any proof to support his theory.
This shocked the two young guards, and they wanted to report it to the shelter captain imdiately.
Shane however, held them back, while he thought
`These two are really kind!`
"I`m going to report everything I saw to the shelter captain. You guys are still on duty!" He chuckled lightly to save the two young guards from embarrassnt before he added
"Everything will be fine, just ssage the shelter captain that a muddied youth is searching for him."
With his last sentence, Shane tried to neutralize the awkward tension of the two guards in front of him, which partially worked, as the two guards seed to relax slightly.
In their excitent to report to the captain, they had montarily forgotten that they were still on duty. Leaving their position while on duty would have led to serious repercussions had Shane not warned them beforehand.
Thanking Shane for the short lesson, they felt slightly embarrassed, as he seed to have thought it through.
Shane tried to rember their nas as he bid them farewell, as he wouldn't forget their kindness which was a rare sight.
Everyone could be superficial on the outside, but he knew that the two guards were genuinely kind from their hearts. Shane didn't want to be responsible for their deaths as a beast war could devastate a recently established shelter without much effort.
The biggest difference between a recently constructed shelter and a shelter that has been built for years was simple yet it made a big difference in combat prowess.
Recently constructed shelters had the sa innate combat prowess as older shelters. All the shelters had the sa defensive chanisms due to a common construction plan, as long as they were constructed on a flat landscape and roughly had the sa number of guards positioned.
However, the RadiantRing shelter for example didn't have many inns yet, a market, and other important buildings, provided by the old shelter in order to attract hunters from all kinds of stages.
Without a flourishing marketplace and crowds of rchants, hunters, and other humans living in the shelter, the RadiantRing shelter's combat prowess was never at par with other old shelters.
Approximately more than 200 Expert guards resided within each Shelter.
This number was only for neutral or placid dinsions and the most dangerous or unknown dinsion led to a much higher number of guards!
There were hundreds of Apprentices that joined as new guards replacing the older ones that wanted to ascend to the Interdiate Primordial Dinsions. Thus, Radiant Shelter had only these guards to defend them.
Older Shelters had more hunters than guards, who would additionally defend the shelter if a beast tide were to occur in front of them. The rewards provided by the governnt were extrely generous in such tis to the guards who would fight for the shelter's safety.
As such, Shane was completely aware of RadiantRing's current situation which didn't look that good.
Sprinting towards the central area, where a large shelter hall was situated, Shane hoped to et the shelter captain. The captain was one of the select few with enough authority to gear up the shelter defenses in a short period.
Even asking for reinforcent wouldn't be bad and Shane hoped that the Shelter captain would listen to him. He had heard more than enough stories about the captain calling out for reinforcent, only to have received no response.
This would still be better than disregarding a possible threat only to be overwheld by a beast horde.
In the end, Shane could only sincerely hope, as he entered the shelter hall after he persuaded the guard in letting him enter, even if he currently looked like a beggar.
Washing his face was similar to a miracle and the guards let him through only because of that, which astonished him a little bit.
Nevertheless, Shane couldn't care less at the mont, as he convinced the secretary to let him in the captain's office. The secretary was hesitant initially but noting the seriousness in Shane's voice, he caved in, and let him walk inside the shelter captain's office.
A beast war near the shelter was nothing to joke about. Even the slightest suspicious act of beasts would be enough to let him through towards the shelter captain in order to let him decide what to do.
The Shelter captain would assess his evidence and give out orders on what they were supposed to do against the incoming threat.
Opening the large office door, Shane's eyes imdiately fell on the shelter captain who was already looking at him as if he was in an extrely bad mood.
Seeing a dirty-clothed youth entering his clean office visibly annoyed him as he asked in a deep voice.
"Brat, what do you want from at such a ti, and how did you even co through the guards and my secretary??"
The captain's brazen question made him frown deeply. Shane couldn't understand how the blonde-haired man in front of him had beco the captain of a newly constructed shelter. He saw a bottle of wine standing on his desk, while a small beer belly could be seen bulging out of the guard's tight leather garnt.
Shane almost cursed as he imdiately figured out what type of human was standing in front of him.
[Stubborn and unteachable]
Clearing his throat, he decided to try his best, because he could understand that a shelter captain would have to release his tension sohow. Also, it was already past midnight, which wasn't the normal working hours.
Shane had only spoken a few words, "I wanted to report….." when the stubborn shelter captain interrupted his attempt to speak without caring about any politeness.
"If you have nothing important to say, please leave alone… I have too many important things to do right now." Holding a glass of wine in his hand, he downed it within a second, as if he wanted to mock Shane, and glared at him with a sly smile.
"F*cking moron!"
