The letter also stated the amount of wages Kai would receive, which was half of the lowest servant’s wage. The average servant’s wage was 5 silver coins per day, and Kai would receive 3 silver coins. He would receive it every day after finishing work.

But Kai couldn’t read. Mrs. Gremblin read it for him.

The servant then handed Kai an envelope containing his half-day’s wages.

Mrs. Gremblin imdiately grabbed it. "I’ll keep it for him."

Kai stared at the bag, not knowing what was inside. But he didn’t dare to ask.

The servant waited for Kai to get ready. When he was inside the room, Mrs. Gremblin ca to him and gave him the envelope from the servant.

Kai took it and opened it. Inside were ten copper coins. He looked at Gremblin in confusion. In Omino, only trainers were allowed to receive coins. If soone worked outside due to an ergency and received compensation, the coins would be given to the trainer.

"It’s for you," said Gremblin. She felt it was only fair to receive compensation for her ti while Kai was there. So she took her share for herself.

They gave Kai two silver coins or forty copper coins. And Gremblin only gave Kai ten copper coins.

And Kai was still so happy to receive them. Though he didn’t understand how to use the coins, he was happy to see them and considered them a gift.

Kai bowed repeatedly, thanking Gremblin.

"Hurry up and get out, he’s waiting for you," said Gremblin, limping out of Kai’s room.

In the carriage, the servant said that starting tomorrow, Kai could go on his own starting at 9 a.m.

"Since you’re a student, you’ll start at 9 a.m. and finish at 4 p.m. But the other servants start at 5 a.m. until 2 p.m., or 2 p.m. until 10 p.m."

Kai thought the servants would work from 5 a.m. until 10 p.m. But the servant said that they had two shifts for general servants.

Kai was used to working without knowing the ti. In Omino, they would start working from 5 a.m. until nightfall.

But Kai found it very difficult there. The servant quarters were just like Omino, only without whips. In Omino, he wouldn’t be scolded by his fellow slaves, but in the servant quarters, almost everyone yelled at him.

"How can you be so slow? I can’t wait for you all the ti! Give it to ! Go sowhere else!" The female servant took the pile of clean cloth from Kai’s hands.

Kai just stared sadly. He tried to work quickly, but his steps were slow, making everyone impatient.

"You’re really testing my patience. You can’t work like this!" snapped the kitchen servant, snatching an empty plate from Kai’s hands.

On his first day, Kai walked back to the dormitory feeling sad. He brought his pay envelope ho, but he wasn’t happy at all.

When he entered his room, he imdiately lay down and cried until he fell asleep.

The festival atmosphere was still lively. On the second day, Kai was unmotivated and walked back to the servant quarters. This ti, no one gave him any work. They chose to do it themselves.

The head servant ca and found him standing awkwardly in front of the kitchen.

"I didn’t pay you to stand there like a statue. Get to work!" The head servant called a kitchen servant to give Kai a job.

But as soon as the head servant left, they started scolding him again for even the smallest things.

During his break, Kai didn’t take his portion of food and walked to the side of a quiet building. He sat there for a while, hugging his legs.

He cursed himself repeatedly. Why couldn’t he work properly? Why was he always scolded at Omino and everywhere else he went?

Kai wiped away the tears that were about to fall. He shouldn’t cry. But he couldn’t help it. He felt useless, and that made him sad.

How could he make Sylas proud if he was like this?

That day, he returned ho with a dejected expression. This ti, his face was also pale.

Garry watched from afar. He found it easier to co and go from the servant quarters. That afternoon, he didn’t go to the dormitory but went straight to Sylas’s office on the captain’s orders.

"He worked for two days and ca ho looking so tired?" Sylas asked.

Garry nodded, feeling nervous. This was the first ti he had faced the prince directly.

"It seems like he’s having a hard ti working in the servant quarters. I don’t know how he can keep going as a palace servant, Your Highness."

"What’s the problem?" Sylas furrowed his brow.

"They’re used to working quickly, and you know Kai has trouble walking. That makes him slow, and everyone gets impatient with him."

Sylas looked unhappy. But he couldn’t bla the palace’s work system, as they had been doing it for years. If he told them to be more tolerant of Kai, it would be the sa as making an exception, which could be seen as favoritism.

But he wouldn’t let Kai be sad because of it.

"Keep an eye on him. You don’t need to do anything, I know you don’t want to get involved, but give a regular report," Sylas said.

Garry nodded. "Yes, Your Highness."

Sylas asked Garry to bring Kai to the servant quarters later that night.

"A guard will pick him up. I don’t want to draw attention. I also don’t want to create new problems for him. So please take him to the servant quarters under the oak tree."

Garry nodded. "Yes, Your Highness."

Kai had no appetite. He only drank a few glasses of water and chewed so bread to keep away his hunger. At that mont, Garry entered his room and motioned for him to follow.

Kai looked confused, but he quickly stood up and followed the man. Garry didn’t say a word. Kai also didn’t ask any questions as the man led him out of the gate, walking quite a distance until they reached the servant quarters. Kai thought maybe he would be asked to work again.

But Garry didn’t turn toward the servant quarters. Instead, he stopped under an oak tree. Usually, it was quiet and empty there, but now the place was filled with decorations and lights. However, no one was there at the mont, since everyone had gone to leave the palace.

Kai stood there nervously as Garry left him alone. Bad thoughts began to fill his mind. Especially when, a few monts later, he saw a man in a black robe on a horse stop in front of him.

Kai stepped back, terrified.

Was he going to be killed?
