Lin Zhengran saw her put down her phone. “Sothing going on at ho tonight?”
Jiang Jingshi didn’t hide anything from him. “Qianqian said her mom, dad, and grandpa are all ho. I’m guessing it’s to talk about her joining Jiang Corporation.”
As she finished, she looked at Lin Zhengran. She’d vaguely heard so of what he said on the phone just now.
It seed like Lily and that little girl nad He Qing had called him...
Lin Zhengran said, “It works out. I should head back too. Just like I said—at the latest, within a month, I’ll find a way to treat Jixin Syndro. Whether or not I make progress, I’ll call you in a week and update you.”
Jiang Jingshi caught on. “You’re not coming to the company this week?”
“Didn’t we handle most of the company stuff today? The little things left don’t need to be rushed. Your health is the priority. If anything urgent cos up at Zhengshi, just have Sister Pan Lin report it to . You can rest easy—take care of your mindset, and don’t be scared.”
Lin Zhengran paused to think. “As for Jiang Corporation, I suggest you turn everything down. Like I said, nothing’s more important than your health.”
Jiang Jingshi’s gentle peach blossom eyes were fixed on Lin Zhengran. The power of belief really was sothing else.
Just the thought of believing in this man made her calm down—even though the doctor had clearly said the illness was incurable, she suddenly didn’t feel so panicked.
“Alright... I’ll listen to you. Then...” she hesitated, “Should I have the driver take you back?”
“No need. I’ll just take a cab. Otherwise, you’ll have to go out of your way—it’ll waste your rest ti.”
Lin Zhengran was thinking: researching those so-called Cultivation elixirs… relying just on dical books might not be enough to break through the next layer.
But maybe while reading, he’d co up with other ideas. With his Level 2 “Harmony with All Things,” his proficiency already rivaled that of many genius experts. It was possible he could discover a new treatnt.
He opened the car door. “Sister Pan!”
Pan Lin, who had been standing with the driver in the distance, heard him and hurried over.
When she saw Jiang Jingshi’s tear-streaked eyes, she instinctively wiped at the corners of her own reddened eyes. “President Lin, what is it?”
Lin Zhengran knew Pan Lin was probably the most loyal person to Jiang Jingshi in the whole company. You could see it from countless little things over the past three years. That’s also why Jiang Jingshi often brought her along.
“For now, put off any company matters that aren’t urgent. For anything critical, just call directly. The goal is to help Jiang Jie rest without worrying.”
“Understood, no problem, President Lin.”
Lin Zhengran added, “Also, I’ll probably send you a list of books tonight. Have soone buy them tomorrow and deliver them to . I need to read them.”
Pan Lin didn’t understand why he needed books at a ti like this—but still nodded.
“Once you send the list, I’ll have soone get them right away.”
As Lin Zhengran got out of the car, he turned to Jiang Jingshi. “Call anyti if anything cos up.”
Jiang Jingshi nodded and saw he was about to leave. “Okay, you’re heading out now? Be careful on the road.”
Her slender hand gently curled into a loose fist on the seat, clearly reluctant to see him go.
Lin Zhengran smiled.
“Got it. I’m heading out.”
He turned and walked away, already thinking about which books he should read first.
Jiang Jingshi and Pan Lin watched his figure gradually disappear into the distance.
Sitting in the back seat, Jiang Jingshi’s peach blossom eyes were full of emotion, and her lips still held the faint sensation from their recent contact.
She couldn’t quite describe how she felt right now, but... she clearly knew: if she really couldn’t get out of bed for the rest of her life, or if her life ended because of this illness...
Then in these last few months—when she was still healthy—the one person she most wanted by her side was Lin Zhengran...
A soft smile spread across her lips.
She couldn’t even pinpoint when she started liking him this much.
She used to think that, if she were ever facing the end of her life, the person she’d most want to see would be Qianqian.
But unexpectedly—it was him.
She’d fallen for him this deeply.
Still... does this count as getting what I wished for?
Does this an... I’m already his woman...?
“President Jiang...”
Pan Lin’s voice snapped her out of her thoughts. She turned to look, only to see Pan Lin’s tears flowing again, sniffling and wiping her face.
Her voice was trembling. “What are we gonna do about all this...?”
It caught Jiang Jingshi off guard. She gave a weak smile. “Why are you crying? It’s not a big deal.”
“How is this not a big deal?! You’re so young, and to get a disease like this... What about the Second Miss and the old Chairman...?”
She was genuinely heartbroken for Jiang Jingshi, and her words ca out in choked sobs.
Jiang Jingshi helplessly tried to comfort her. “You don’t need to worry about all that.”
She looked toward the distant figure that had long vanished. “I believe in him.”
Just like when she got lost in the neighborhood as a child and saw him for the first ti—even though they weren’t familiar, she instinctively felt he could lead her out of the maze.
That must’ve been love at first sight.
After she finished speaking, she heard Pan Lin still sobbing, sniffling hard. She smiled and interrupted:
“Alright! That’s enough crying! Look, I’m still fine, aren’t I? I was just getting myself together again, and now you’re making nervous. Have the driver take us ho.”
Pan Lin thought Jiang Jingshi was incredible—learning she had such a disease and still managing to stay calm like this.
She wiped away her tears and nodded firmly. “Okay, I’ll go get the driver.”
———
Lin Zhengran left the hospital by car and headed straight for the hotel where the “three little ones” were staying.
By this ti, the three girls had already finished dinner.
They were still sleeping in the sa room tonight.
When he knocked on the door, all three of them—sitting on the bed watching sothing on the sa phone—sat up straight in unison.
Little He Qing whispered, “Lin Zhengran?”
Jiang Xueli quickly asked, “Is it Zhengran?”
Han Wenwen added, “Lin Zhengran, is that you?”
From outside the door, Lin Zhengran replied, “Yeah, it’s . Open up.”
The three of them were thrilled.
Once he ca in, sitting together on the bed, Lin Zhengran briefly explained what he needed to do in the coming days.
“I’ll probably be really busy these next few days—need to read a ton of material, so I won’t be able to hang out with you three for now. As for the trip, if things go well, we’ll go next week as planned. If not, we’ll have to push it back a bit. Either way, I’ll call you and keep you updated.”
The three girls didn’t know what exactly was going on, but they could tell it was serious.
Sothing big must’ve happened.
They exchanged glances, but not one of them asked why the trip might be canceled. Instead, they all nodded.
In perfect sync:
“Sure, whatever you say. We’ll go along with it.”
Little He Qing: “It’s just a trip—getting your work done is more important.”
Jiang Xueli: “Just follow your plan. We’re your girlfriends, so of course we’ll go with your flow.”
Lin Zhengran couldn’t help but admire how sweet and well-behaved these three were in monts like this.
He reached out and patted Lily and Little He Qing on the head. He didn’t pat Wenwen—just gave her a look.
Han Wenwen smiled faintly at that.
Lin Zhengran said, “Alright then. You three go on playing. I’m heading ho.”
Little He Qing called out, “Wait, Lin Zhengran—have you eaten yet?”
He turned back. “Not yet.”
Jiang Xueli quickly grabbed a packed al from the side and said playfully, “We saved you so! When you called earlier, we figured you were probably swamped. We thought, if you’d already eaten, we’d just keep it. But if you hadn’t, this would hold you over—there’s pickled fish and a big box of rice.”
Lin Zhengran smiled as he accepted the food. “Thanks. I’m off then.”
The three waved. “Take it easy on the road!”
They stood at the door again, watching Lin Zhengran leave.
The three girls looked at each other.
Little He Qing: “Looks like things are really hectic at his company.”
Jiang Xueli blinked, watching his figure disappear down the stairs. “I hope Zhengran gets through this busy stretch soon.”
