Jiang Jingshi slowly shook her head. “I don’t think so.”

Lin Zhengran continued asking, “Are Uncle and Auntie both healthy in this regard?”

“Mm... But Mom was once hospitalized a long ti ago for cardiovascular issues...”

Lin Zhengran withdrew his hand. “I’ll go with you to the hospital to get it checked.”

Pan Lin sat in the passenger seat while the driver took Lin Zhengran and Jiang Jingshi to the high-end private hospital invested in by the Jiang family.

Pan Lin didn’t quite understand why the two bosses suddenly decided to go to the hospital in the middle of a al.

But she had a vague sense of foreboding.

The hospital gave Jiang Jingshi a thorough check-up, and in the end, it was confird to be real.

Jiang Jingshi had a rare hereditary cerebrovascular disease. The hospital referred to it as Jixin Syndro.

Sitting in the examination room, Jiang Jingshi looked at the scans and the report. “What kind of illness is this? I’ve never even heard of it.”

The doctor frowned and said,

“It’s a rare cerebrovascular disease. The na isn’t what matters—it’s just that there are very few docunted cases and it’s hard to treat. In the early stages, the patient may experience sensory impairnt on one side of the body, unsteady steps, or partial blindness.

If it worsens, it may lead to urinary incontinence or partial paralysis. However, President Jiang, your condition is currently in the early-to-mid stage. With tily treatnt, it shouldn’t beco that severe.”

Pan Lin, standing in the back, gasped in shock, covering her mouth.

The doctor typed on the computer. “But the dication for this illness isn’t available dostically. I’ll have soone bring it in from overseas right away.”

“Shouldn’t?” Jiang Jingshi caught onto that word, her beautiful pupils trembling.

The doctor said, “There aren’t many treatnt cases for this illness, so I can’t give you any guarantees.”

“But I had a full check-up just a few years ago. Didn’t your people say I was perfectly healthy back then?”

The doctor replied, “This is considered a latent genetic disorder. Many tis, it only becos detectable in adulthood. Even the most advanced equipnt can’t pick it up in youth. Looking at your records, you’ve probably had occasional sensory issues recently, right?”

Jiang Jingshi had indeed been experiencing that lately. She’d always assud it was due to exhaustion. A while back, she had even thought of coming to the hospital to get it checked, but then figured it was just like what her younger sister had—lovesickness—so she didn’t bother.

Suddenly thinking of sothing, she blurted out, “If it’s a genetic disorder, then does my sister have it too?!”

The doctor looked at her and said,

“That’s hard to say. A latent disorder doesn’t necessarily get passed down to the next generation. Based on previous conclusions, the likelihood of inheritance isn’t very high.

When Second Miss ca in for her check-up not long ago, her body was in excellent health—aside from... we didn’t detect any other conditions. Also, both your parents are still in good health. While your mother did have a prior hospitalization, it was for a common issue.

So this should be a case of skipped-generation inheritance—passed down from your great-grandparents’ generation.”

Hearing that her sister was fine, Jiang Jingshi finally relaxed, but at the sa ti, her nerves caused her to wobble slightly in her seat.

Pan Lin reached out to help, but Lin Zhengran had already caught her in ti.

Jiang Jingshi glanced at Lin Zhengran. Although she hadn’t said anything extrely fearful, he could feel the tremble in her delicate fingers.

She asked the doctor again, “Has anyone ever fully recovered from this illness?”

The doctor didn’t answer right away. After thinking for a mont, he said, “So far, the dicine has been proven to help alleviate symptoms. Future developnts of the illness will depend on—”

“So, there’s no cure, right?”

“Well... I can’t say for certain it’s incurable. After all, recovery from any illness needs a precedent...”

Seeing Jiang Jingshi’s intense gaze, the doctor rephrased his words:

“In any case, before the dicine arrives, I recomnd you be admitted for now. After a week of dication, we’ll do further testing to see how your condition progresses.”

He paused, then added,

“The data shows that once symptoms start appearing frequently, if not treated promptly, things could get much worse very quickly. Within just one to three months, the illness can progress from the early-mid stage to the advanced stage...”

Jiang Jingshi’s hand, resting on her lap, slowly clenched, wrinkling the fabric of her clothes.

Leaving the hospital building, Pan Lin’s eyes were red as she quietly asked with concern, “President Jiang...?”

At the hospital parking area, the driver saw them coming out. Though he didn’t know what was going on, he could tell from a distance that the atmosphere was heavy.

Jiang Jingshi said to Pan Lin, “Don’t tell anyone yet. Let think for a while.”

Pan Lin nodded.

Jiang Jingshi suddenly looked at Lin Zhengran. “Zhengran... can you... sit with in the car for a bit?”

Inside the Rolls-Royce in the parking lot, Pan Lin and the driver stood at a distance.

Lin Zhengran and Jiang Jingshi sat in the backseat.

Out on the hospital street, so patients in hospital gowns were taking walks with their family mbers.

Inside the car, the once energetic Jiang Jingshi now seed a little listless.

“My luck really sucks... How could I end up with sothing like this?”

Lin Zhengran didn’t respond. He wasn’t feeling sad, but rather, he was thinking.

Level 2 [Mastery of All Things] gave one the equivalent of forty years of skill in their area of talent. It was enough to handle most things with ease.

But in the face of a genetic disorder like this... it might be useless. Unless... he broke through to the next level? What would Level 3 [Mastery of All Things] look like?

The Cultivation System had ntioned that once Charisma beca [Mastery of All Things], it could even involve refining the body and making elixirs.

In the real world, many illnesses remained incurable due to technical limitations.

But if one could really make elixirs like in cultivation...

They might have miraculous effects.

As Lin Zhengran pondered, he suddenly felt a soft warmth on his shoulder, followed by a familiar scent unique to soone.

Jiang Jingshi nervously clenched her fists and slowly leaned against Lin Zhengran’s shoulder.

Her movent was gentle and light.

From his angle, Lin Zhengran could see her delicate profile and the fluttering of her long lashes.

Jiang Jingshi’s face showed a hint of despair and obvious shyness.

“Can I lean on you for a bit? I’m kind of scared right now. Maybe if I stay like this for a while, I’ll be able to calm down.”

Her eyes shimred with tears as her arms wrapped tightly around his.

Her trembling red lips were pressed together.

She felt unwilling—she still had so many things she wanted to do.

People she missed, lives she longed to live.

Now being told she might never be able to get out of bed again—how could she possibly accept that?

Jiang Jingshi slowly buried her face in the crook of Lin Zhengran’s arm.

He reached out his hand, and the mont his fingers brushed her arm—

She imdiately wrapped her arms around him.

In his embrace,

Her soft, scared sobs soaked through the front of his shirt.

“I don’t want this... I’m so scared.”

Lin Zhengran knew that no matter what he said right now, she wouldn’t hear it. She’d only take it as empty comfort.

It would have to wait until she cald down.

So, he slowly wrapped his arms around her.

In the midst of her heartbreak, Jiang Jingshi felt a small hint of joy. Her hands gripped the back of his shirt tighter. She didn’t use her usual nickna but instead, with a trembling, lodic voice, kept calling out his na, saying:

“Lin Zhengran... Lin Zhengran... Hold more.”
