The fire had carved a path of destruction, reducing the zombies in its wake to little more than charred husks. Smoke curled into the sky, masking the sickly stench of rot with the acrid sll of burnt flesh and fuel.

Yunfeng and Jai didn’t waste a second.

He didn’t have ti to think of his new found magical flas. All he could think of was a way out of this ss.

They dashed blindly through the smoke.

"This way!" Yunfeng dragged jai to the nearby high rise building. "we’ll go through the back door. The warehouse is close... we’ll make it"

Their dirty shoes pounded against the pavent as they rushed toward a nearby office building, its glass doors shattered and its once-pristine lobby sared with bloodied handprints.

The place was eerily quiet with papers flying around sticking to mysterious blood stains in the ground.

Only a few zombies remained, sluggish and dazed, their bodies still twitching from the explosion’s impact. Jai took them out quickly—one clean shot to the skull, the sickening crack echoing through the deserted halls.

"let’s go through this way..." Yunfeng whispered, pulling him towards the service area.

They slipped into a side and walking carefully. The flickering ergency lights overhead cast eerie shadows on the walls, making every step feel like they were walking deeper into a nightmare.

A few minutes in they found an office room with the door slightly ajar.

Yunfeng hesitated.

Then, with a deep breath, he pushed it. The door seed to be locked form the inside. Eyes wide Yunfeng gazed at Jai. ’there are survivors here...’ he didn’t want to go in. but this door might lead to the back entrance of the building. They had to go through.

Yunfeng exerted a bit of his strength and the door gave way. they quickly ran in and closed the door behind them.

Inside, a handful of people huddled together.

They looked like office workers—disheveled suits, bloodstained blouses, and panicked eyes. So had makeshift weapons in hand—scissors, a tal rod, a shattered office chair leg.

The room stank of sweat and fear.

A burly man in a torn dress shirt was the first to notice them. He perked up, eyes scanning the two newcors. Then, his gaze narrowed.

"Kids?" His voice was rough, skeptical.

Another man, lean and wiry, stood beside him, arms crossed. He smirked. "Well, well. Look what we have here."

Yunfeng’s instincts scread at him.

Sothing was wrong.

Jai must have felt it too. He subtly shifted closer to Yunfeng, keeping his gun half-hidden by his side.

A woman in a bloodstained skirt sighed dramatically. "What kind of parent lets their kids run around in this hellhole?"

The burly man scoffed. "Doesn’t matter. Maybe they’re lost. Maybe they’re looking for help." He stepped forward, his heavy boots thudding against the floor. "You boys looking for protection?"

Yunfeng didn’t answer.

His gaze flicked around the room.

The survivors weren’t scared of them.

They were studying them.

Sizing them up.

A slow realization chilled Yunfeng’s spine.

They weren’t just survivors..... they were jaded adults ready to use any ans to survive.

The wiry man stilled, but his smirk deepened. "I could keep you safe, you know. People like you... they don’t last long alone."

Yunfeng’s fingers twitched. "We’re leaving."

The wiry man sighed, feigning disappointnt. "And go where? Back out there?" He gestured lazily to the barricaded doors. "You think those things won’t keep coming?"

His voice dipped lower, conspiratorial. "You should be with . With us. I protect my own."

Jai barked a laugh. "Bullshit."

The wiry man chuckled. "Now, that hurts. You don’t even know ."

Then, his expression shifted. Just a flicker—sothing hungry curling at the edges. The door behind them clicked.

Yunfeng tensed. A young man, barely older than them, had quietly locked it.

They were trapped.

The burly man grinned, cracking his knuckles. "Here’s the deal, boys. We need a way out of here. You?" His grin widened, all teeth and cruelty. "You’re gonna help us."

Jai clenched his jaw. "Like hell we are."

The wiry man sighed, shaking his head. "See, that’s the wrong answer."

Two more survivors moved in from the sides, blocking their escape routes.

The woman leaned lazily against a desk, eyes gleaming. "Don’t make this harder than it needs to be."

Yunfeng’s fingers twitched.

Jai subtly gripped his gun.

The air was thick with tension.

Then—

The burly man lunged.

The mont the burly man lunged, instinct took over.

Yunfeng had already exhausted himself fighting off zombies outside. His body ached, his breath ca in ragged gasps, but the strange energy still lingered beneath his skin.

He wasn’t in control of it.

And now, he had to fight again.

The burly man swung at him—fast for his size. But Yunfeng’s body reacted on its own. He sidestepped at the last second, his movents unnaturally fluid, and slamd his elbow into the man’s ribs.

A sickening crack filled the air.

The man stumbled back, eyes wide. He hadn’t expected that.

Neither had Yunfeng.

His own fingers trembled, not from fear—but from the unfamiliar power surging through him. His body still felt too light, too strong. It was like sothing inside him was awake—and it terrified him.

What the hell is happening to ?

The burly man roared, shaking off the pain, and charged again. This ti, Yunfeng was ready.

He twisted, grabbing the man’s wrist mid-punch, and with a burst of inhuman strength, he flipped him over his shoulder.

The man’s massive body slamd onto the floor with a thunderous crash.

Silence.

The remaining survivors froze.

The wiry man stiffened, his smirk gone. The woman gripped her weapon tighter.

They weren’t scared of the zombies.

They were scared of him.

Jai didn’t hesitate. He pulled out his gun and aid at the wiry man. "You wanna try next?"

A long, tense silence.

Then, the wiry man took a step back, hands raised. The woman did the sa.

Yunfeng’s breath shuddered. His arms ached, but the strange energy inside him still pulsed. It refused to settle. It wanted more.

He clenched his fists.

Not now.

They didn’t have ti for this.

He glanced at Jai. "We need to get out of here."

Jai nodded, not lowering his gun. "Then let’s move before these assholes try sothing else."
