Pregnant During An Apocalypse [BL] Chapter 124 - Uneven distribution

After hours of driving, the monotonous hum of the engine was abruptly interrupted by the loud growling of their stomachs. The noise was so sudden and jarring that Jai groaned dramatically, rubbing his belly like he had just been starved for days.

"Okay, okay, we need to stop. I can’t drive on an empty stomach," he whined, already pulling the car over to the side of the road before Yunfeng could protest.

Yunfeng exhaled, leaning his head against the window, his expression sowhere between exhausted and unimpressed. "You act like you’ve been driving for days. It’s only been a few hours."

"Still! My legs are stiff, my back hurts, and—ugh, never mind. I gotta pee." Jai unbuckled his seatbelt and practically leaped out of the car, heading toward a patch of overgrown bushes a few feet away.

Yunfeng stayed in his seat, arms crossed, watching as Jai disappeared behind the shrubs. The night air was eerily still, and aside from the distant rustling of leaves, there was nothing but silence. He turned his gaze toward the road ahead—dark, stretching endlessly into the unknown. The farther they traveled, the more abandoned the world seed. It was unsettling.

Jai ca jogging back, rolling his shoulders and stretching his arms as if he had just completed so great athletic feat. "Man, I didn’t know driving long distances was going to be this tedious..." He let out a dramatic sigh before climbing back into the driver’s seat.

Yunfeng, still gazing out the window, turned his head slightly and shot him a dull look. "It’s not the drive that’s tedious. It’s your car."

Jai’s mouth fell open in mock offense. "Excuse ?"

"We had so many cars in your basent. Why did you take this thing?" Yunfeng gestured at the old, sowhat beat-up vehicle they were currently stuck with. The seats were lumpy, the air conditioning barely worked, and every few miles, the engine sputtered in protest as if it, too, wanted to give up on this journey.

Jai scoffed, running a hand lovingly over the dashboard as though it were a priceless treasure. "This is mine. My father won’t miss it, and he won’t search for it. Our escape will go unnoticed for days."

Yunfeng wasn’t convinced. "That’s optimistic."

Jai shrugged, then glanced at the pile of supplies in the back. "What do we eat? Bread and jam?"

Yunfeng leaned back, rummaging through their stash before pulling out a loaf of slightly squished bread. From another bag, he retrieved a jar of strawberry jam. "Looks like it."

He unscrewed the lid but quickly realized they had no spoons or knives. He held up the jar with a blank expression. "Guess we use our fingers."

Jai shrugged. "We’ve done worse."

They dug in, dipping their fingers straight into the jam jar and saring it onto the torn pieces of bread. It was sticky, ssy, and far from gourt, but it was the best al they had all day. Occasionally, they switched to peanut butter, licking the excess from their fingers between bites.

By the ti they finished, Jai wiped his hands on his jeans with zero remorse. "Alright, let’s get moving before we turn into those poor bastards who stop for a snack and get eaten alive."

Yunfeng didn’t argue. He just tossed the empty jar aside and leaned back as Jai started the car again.

By midnight, they reached the outskirts of City A, a small, dimly lit village resting on the edge of civilization. The road was lined with modest houses, their windows glowing faintly with flickering lights—either candles or weak generator-powered bulbs. As they rolled through the town, a few wary faces peeked from behind curtains, watching them with suspicion.

Jai noticed a few people carrying weapons—knives, baseball bats, even an old hunting rifle. They weren’t the kind of people who trusted outsiders anymore. Not in a world like this.

Then, a voice rang out. "Hey, you!"

Jai instinctively slowed the car, rolling down the window slightly.

"There are zombies out there!" a man shouted from his porch. "And whatever you do, don’t stop for Crazy Pete! That bastard’s bit too many people already!"

Yunfeng raised a hand in acknowledgnt. "Thanks for the warning." He quickly rolled the window shut and exhaled.

Jai’s grip on the steering wheel tightened. "Crazy Pete, huh? That’s reassuring."

"It’s strange..." Yunfeng muttered, staring out at the dimly lit houses. "Why is the virus spreading so unevenly?"

Jai shot him a glance. "What do you an?"

"In history books, it always starts with a bomb, an explosion—sothing big. But until now, we haven’t heard a single bomb go off. How did the virus spread, then? And why are only a few selected people infected...?"

Jai opened his mouth to respond, but at that mont, his foot slamd on the brake.

A man was kneeling in the middle of the road.

At first, he looked like just another survivor. But as soon as their headlights hit him, his head jerked up—his eyes were hollow, blood dripping from his sockets like weeping wounds. His mouth, wide open and soaked in red, twisted into sothing that wasn’t quite a smile.

Then, without warning, he lunged.

His body slamd against the hood with a sickening thud.

Jai cursed, gripping the wheel tightly. "Shit! What the hell—"

Yunfeng grabbed his wrist, voice low and urgent. "Go. Drive. He’s... not human."

Jai’s hands trembled slightly as he looked at the creature sprawled across their windshield, its pale fingers clawing against the glass, leaving behind streaks of blood. For a mont, neither of them moved.

Then, the thing let out a strangled, guttural sound—half a growl, half a gurgle.

The noise sent a chill down Jai’s spine.

His instincts kicked in.

Foot slamming on the gas, the car lurched forward. The creature let out a shriek as it tumbled off the hood, rolling violently onto the asphalt behind them.

Jai didn’t dare look back.

"that one was scary..." Jai mumbled under his breath. "if its like this in the village areas.. how bad will the city be." He gulped loudly.

"very bad.." Yunfeng whispered softly.
