Chapter 161: Chapter 159: Big Sister, I’ve Finally Found You. You Were So Hard to Find (Part 1)

With that, the Sect Leader flicked his sleeve and departed.

If Celeste Grant had been there, she would have surely comnted on it. ’Have the people of the Azure Sky Sect been hexed?’ Jocelyn Grant’s cri was atrocious—murdering a fellow disciple—yet her only punishnt was expulsion. No kill order was issued, nor was anyone dispatched to cripple her cultivation.

It could only be said that an unseen force was propping Jocelyn Grant up from the shadows. No matter the danger, she always managed to turn peril into safety.

Perhaps this was the so-called "protagonist halo"...

When Jocelyn Grant next appeared, she was in Immortal’s Gate City.

This territory was under the jurisdiction of the Immortal Sects and wasn’t far from the Azure Sky Sect.

As she watched her very last Escape Talisman dissipate, a wave of desolation washed over Jocelyn Grant.

’I’ve always been kind to others, so why is everyone pushing

to the brink? I didn’t an to hurt my fellow disciple. I only made a mistake because I couldn’t accept the news of Brother Young’s death. Why can’t they understand ?’

Her beloved Taoist Companion had been murdered, and now the very Sect she had called ho for years had no place for her.

At that mont, a flood of grievances overwheld her, and the ache in Jocelyn Grant’s heart made it difficult to breathe.

"To think the world is so vast, yet there’s no place for

in it. Right—I can’t fall. I still have Ronan."

She had already learned that before Brother Young left the Azure Sky Sect in search of Spiritual dicine, he had entrusted Ronan to the care of a friend in Immortal’s Gate City.

She followed the address to Brother Young’s friend’s house.

It was a quiet, secluded courtyard, surrounded by a protective array.

She walked up and knocked on the door.

A voice soon called out from inside.

"Who is it?"

"Excuse , is this the residence of Seth Hughes? My husband is Liam Yardley. I’m here to pick up my child."

The door finally opened.

The person who answered was a middle-aged man. He had a slight build and leaned on a crutch, his legs clearly giving him trouble. He gave Jocelyn Grant a peculiar look.

He couldn’t help it; her face was far too familiar to pretend otherwise. Just a few days ago, he’d bought one of those racy little novels that he kept hidden under his pillow, and the character Jasmine Holt was drawn to look exactly like her.

’The real thing is even prettier than the drawings,’ he thought.

’So this is Fellow Daoist Young’s Taoist Companion, the one he never wanted to talk about. Now I finally get why. Even I can see the green hat on his head... it’s a whole prairie.’

In truth, he wasn’t really friends with Liam Yardley. The man had helped him once, and this was just repaying the favor, nothing more. Otherwise, why would he agree to take in a child who looked like he wouldn’t survive? If anything happened, it would be a thankless, troubleso affair.

Seeing the door open, Jocelyn Grant instinctively peered into the courtyard, searching for her son.

’My son was so little when I left. I haven’t seen him in so many years; I wonder what he looks like now. Ronan looks so much like Brother Young, he must be very handso.’

A dull ache throbbed in her heart at the thought of Brother Young.

She silently vowed in her heart.

’Brother Young, rest assured, I will take good care of our child. I’ve already lost you. I can’t lose him too.’

She then heard the man say, "You’re here for the boy, Ronan Yardley? But soone already ca and took him."

Jocelyn Grant froze. She shot her hand out, grabbing the front of his shirt. "What do you an?" she asked coldly. "Who took Ronan? Brother Young entrusted his child to you! He trusted you! How could you just hand him over to soone else?"

Seth Hughes grew annoyed but, mindful of her high cultivation, he forced himself to be patient. ’Why is this woman so unreasonable?’ "Hold on, just let

explain."

Jocelyn Grant’s expression stiffened, and she let go of his shirt. "I’m sorry. I was just overwrought."

Seth Hughes began to explain. "Your son isn’t in good health; he’s been relying on all sorts of Spiritual dicines just to stay alive. Before Fellow Daoist Young left, he asked

to look after the boy, saying he was going to a Secret Realm to find a cure. But he never ca back. The next ti I heard anything about him, it was that... ahem... he’d t with an accident and died. A short while ago, that boy Ronan Yardley’s condition worsened. He started vomiting blood and looked like he didn’t have much ti left."

Seth Hughes added with a sigh.

"Just when I was at my wit’s end, a cultivator nad Silas Stowe showed up. He said he was the boy’s uncle and that he could save him. I figured getting him help was better than letting him die here, so I handed the boy over. Oh, and he said he knew you. Said he was your younger brother."

’Silas Stowe?’

Jocelyn Grant stared, blurting out, "You’re saying the man who took my son was nad Silas Stowe?"

’How could it be him?’ Hearing his na again felt like a mory from a distant past.

’The last ti they parted, the Immortal Ship they were on had been blown out of the sky. Silas had been gravely injured, or so it seed. Then Brother Young had taken her away, and she had never seen him again. She had always blad herself for failing to protect him.’

’I can’t believe he’s still alive and well, and that he still thinks of . I really do owe Silas... I’ll be sure to make it up to him in the future.’

Seeing her stunned expression, the man on the crutch nodded slightly. "That’s right. His cultivation seed very high, so he didn’t strike

as a liar. I thought maybe he really could save the boy. Don’t you two know each other?"

"We do. We know each other."

At this, a smile finally graced Jocelyn Grant’s face. "So it was Silas," she said. "He’s my younger brother."

She looked at the man and asked, "Did Silas say where he was taking Ronan?"

’If Ronan is with Silas, I can rest easy. For now, I just need to find them.’

’Silas has a la leg, which must make things difficult. He probably has enough trouble looking after himself, let alone taking care of Ronan. He’s doing all of this for my sake,’ Jocelyn Grant realized.

’I’ve always known how Silas feels about , I just never dared to reciprocate. I already had Brother Young back then.’

’I never imagined that in my absence, he would take it upon himself to care for my sickly son. His devotion to ... it’s truly touching.’

Thinking of Silas Stowe, Jocelyn Grant murmured, "Silas, you’re so foolish. I’m not worth it."

When she asked, the man nad Hughes simply shook his head. "That I don’t know. Your brother didn’t leave a ssage; he just took the child and left."

Jocelyn Grant nodded slowly.

"Alright, I understand. Hughes, thank you for looking after Ronan all this ti. Please, you must accept these Spirit Stones."

With that, she took out a small pouch of Spirit Stones and offered it to him.

Seth Hughes took it, glanced inside, and tried to hand it back.

Before he could say anything,

Jocelyn Grant insisted, "You must take it."

Seth Hughes said, "That’s not..."

"Please, you have to accept it. It’s just a small token of my gratitude. It’s not much."

Seth Hughes clutched the pouch and said urgently, "What I’m trying to say is, this isn’t enough! Fellow Daoist Young didn’t leave a single Spirit Stone before he left. In the ti since, I’ve spent three thousand low-grade spirit stones on dicine for the boy, fronting the cost myself. It’s nearly cleaned

out! You’ve given

less than a hundred Spirit Stones here. How is that supposed to be enough?"

Jocelyn Grant froze, dumbfounded.

"Huh?"

Seeing her silence, Seth Hughes thought she didn’t believe him. "If you don’t believe , go ask at the Spirit Apothecary Hall in the city! They all know about it. Would I lie to you?"

Jocelyn Grant’s face stiffened.

"That’s not what I ant."
