Chapter 150: Chapter 148: How Could This Be, I Don’t Believe It
"Hahaha, how ridiculous."
Celeste Grant gave her an exasperated look. "Are you blaming
for this? Was I the one who stabbed him? Weren’t you the one who killed him? Jocelyn Grant, I have to say, I’m truly impressed by your talent for playing both the villain and the victim. You talk of love and cry more fiercely than anyone, yet you were so quick to strike. Is this what they call a ’gentle blade’? Every cut fatal. It’s hilarious."
"How can you say that?" Jocelyn Grant looked at Celeste Grant, her face a mask of agony and helplessness. "You forced ! It was you, Celeste Grant! You’re the one who got Brother Hawthorne killed! Why? Why did you have to force ?"
’Ever since we were little, this cousin of mine could never stand to see
happy. She had to fight
for everything. And now, she keeps pushing
into one deadly situation after another.’
She cradled the man in her arms, continuing to weep and cry out, "Brother Hawthorne... Wake up... I’m sorry, I’m so sorry! It’s my fault! I didn’t an to do it!"
Watching this bizarre scene, Celeste Grant pressed her fingers to her forehead. ’Why am I stuck here watching this trashy, lodramatic soap opera? My eyes... my eyes have been tainted.’
At that thought,
Celeste Grant let out a cold laugh.
"? I got your Brother Hawthorne killed? Jocelyn Grant, don’t you dare try to pin that on . Several of us saw it with our own eyes: you killed him to save your own skin. And watching you cry your heart out like this... I’m so moved, I could just die. So this is love. He must have been blessed for eight lifetis to find a Taoist Companion like you. His ancestors are probably so thrilled they’re about to climb out of their coffins and celebrate."
’So this is love!’
’Hard to comprehend, but utterly shocking.’
’May their love last forever. They deserve each other.’
Hearing Celeste Grant’s words, Jocelyn Grant felt as if she’d been stripped bare from head to toe. ’No, I didn’t an to do it. I didn’t an to kill Brother Hawthorne. It was Celeste Grant. This is all her fault.’
At that mont, it was as if Jocelyn Grant could no longer hear Celeste Grant’s words. She continued to hold Ivan Hawthorne’s body, her own fra trembling slightly as she cried herself into a helpless, fragile state.
"Brother Hawthorne," she sobbed, "I promise you, I will live on."
Tears stread down her face.
Her resolve hardened.
’Brother Hawthorne, just wait. Once I beco stronger, I will kill them all and avenge you.’
Celeste Grant’s gaze shifted to the man in Jocelyn Grant’s arms. ’I can’t believe he was actually in love with her,’ she thought, genuinely surprised. ’Then again, I suppose he was just blind. To each their own, I guess.’
Her gaze fell on the Jade Pendant in his hand.
A guess began to form in her mind.
’In a trashy romance novel like this, of course the male lead would have a life-saving treasure for a critical mont. The only thing is, Jocelyn Grant was just too fast. She didn’t give him any ti at all, just stabbed him to death. Otherwise, the two of them would probably have escaped by now.’
’What a tragicody!’
Ivan Hawthorne had already been beaten half to death by one of Javier Sinclair’s strikes. His Divine Soul was heavily damaged and several of his bones were broken. And now, Jocelyn Grant had just finished him off.
’So, how could this possibly be true love? It’s just a woman sleeping around with a bunch of n.’
’By the sa token, when a man is with a flock of won, you can forget about love. It’s just lust and mutual exploitation.’
’Celeste Grant had browsed male-oriented novels before where a powerful figure like The Empress would join the protagonist’s harem and live peacefully alongside other won—so of whom were even courtesans. It’s utterly ridiculous, like dragging a nation’s dignity through the mud.’
’Whether a man or a woman, no one with true power and self-respect would ever tolerate their partner having a harem. They simply couldn’t stand it. And according to the plot, this Jocelyn Grant has nine Taoist Companions. How could she possibly love them all?’
Just then, Jocelyn Grant lifted her head and looked toward Celeste Grant and the others.
"Now, can I go?"
Celeste Grant saw the hatred in her eyes but was completely unfazed.
She let out a soft laugh. "I bet you’re wishing I were dead right now. Too bad you don’t have what it takes. Oh, Jocelyn Grant, I just love seeing you hate my guts while being completely powerless to stop . It feels amazing."
Upon hearing this,
Jocelyn Grant was overco with such a furious rage that she coughed up another mouthful of blood.
"Celeste Grant, you’ve gone too far!"
’I swear,’ she vowed, ’one day, I will make her kneel at my feet. I will repay the pain and humiliation I’ve suffered today a hundred, a thousand tis over!’
Celeste Grant crossed her arms.
"Stop glaring. Your eyes are bulging like bells. It’s quite ugly."
She looked Jocelyn Grant up and down before speaking. "You know, you were so eager to hand over treasures the mont we t. Jocelyn Grant, I’m actually starting to like you. Keep up the good work. Go find so more treasures for ... I’ll be waiting."
"You... you..."
Jocelyn Grant gritted her teeth.
Her hands trembled with anger.
’Why doesn’t she just drop dead?’
’Who needs her damn affection?’
’Bitch! That damn bitch!’
’I shouldn’t have been so soft-hearted back then. I shouldn’t have just tossed her to those roadside Evil Cultivators; I should have killed her myself. If I had, things wouldn’t be like this. It’s all her fault. I won’t be so ’kind’ ever again.’
Celeste Grant could more or less guess what she was thinking.
’But did it matter? Not at all.’
Celeste Grant gently toyed with a lock of her hair.
As she spoke, her gaze shifted to the man in Jocelyn’s arms, landing on the Jade Pendant in Ivan Hawthorne’s hand. Celeste Grant gave Jocelyn a chilling smile and said...
"Jocelyn Grant, that Jade Pendant in your Brother Hawthorne’s hand... it’s quite the treasure. It could have gotten both of you out of here. Tsk, tsk. What a pity. You were just a little too quick on the uptake. Your dear Brother Hawthorne died such a pointless death."
Jocelyn Grant was stunned.
"What?"
With a trembling hand, she took the Jade Pendant from his grasp. When she sensed the Array within it, her expression went completely blank.
"No... that’s impossible."
"It can’t be... How could this happen... I don’t believe it... I don’t believe it!"
"Brother Hawthorne... Brother Hawthorne, wake up, tell
this isn’t real..."
’If that was really true...’
’How could I have killed Brother Hawthorne?’
’How could I have let my child lose their father?’
At that, Jocelyn Grant completely broke down, sobbing uncontrollably.
’I killed Brother Hawthorne... We could have escaped this place together.’
"We were so close... so close." Sobs wracked her body. "Brother Hawthorne... It was ... I killed you... SOB... Will you bla ?" Rembering his dying words—that he didn’t bla her—made Jocelyn’s heart ache unbearably. "I almost wish you would bla . You should bla ."
She lifted her gaze to Celeste Grant.
"It’s all your fault," she shrieked. "Celeste Grant, you caused all of this!"
Tears stread down her face.
She was in agony.
Celeste Grant scoffed.
"Your hands are your own. If you hadn’t struck the blow, could I really have forced you?"
Aaron Sinclair muttered,
"So shaless."
Javier Sinclair nodded slightly.
He, too, found the woman’s actions difficult to comprehend.
"Well, I’ve certainly seen it all now."
Celeste Grant chuckled softly and took her son’s hand. "Let’s go, son. We shouldn’t interrupt their life-and-death tragic romance. I’m afraid watching any longer might make
lose brain cells. When you grow up, you’d better not be anything like them."
Aaron Sinclair nodded.
"I won’t, Mother."
