Chapter 787: Chapter Seven Hundred and Eighty-Seven: Young Master Cheng

Gucheng, looking at her lithe silhouette, uncharacteristically started the conversation, “Seventh Miss should not have gone.”

“Shouldn’t have gone where? To see Gufeng?” Jiang Ning looked back at him, waving him over, “Gucheng, co here.”

Gucheng walked up to her.

Once at the General’s Mansion, he no longer had to keep his identity hidden but could openly follow Jiang Ning.

Most of the people in the mansion recognized him, and were even obligated to respectfully call him “Young Master Cheng”.

These twelve children, who had adopted the na Gu, were on paper the imperial guards of Jiang Mubai, but in reality, they were akin to his foster sons.

Whether it was in the military or at the General’s Mansion, their status was highly revered.

Gucheng, always cold and indifferent, remained largely oblivious to the salutations from the mansion’s servants.

He stood in front of Jiang Ning, his head habitually bowed, as docile as a lamb: “Seventh Miss.”

Jiang Ning reached out and flicked his forehead, asking, “Young Master Cheng, why are you so indifferent? Isn’t Guying your good brother?”

“Just my subordinate.”

“Despite everything, you’ve grown up together as comrades, faced life and death together with uncle, don’t you want Guying to live well?”

Gucheng remained silent for a while, preparing himself ntally before saying: “The right to live has to be fought for by oneself.”

“Who told you this?”

“The General.”

“Um!” Jiang Ning rubbed her nose, chuckling, “In so ways, that’s quite reasonable. But we are family, aren’t we? When we have the capability, shouldn’t we also fight for our comrades’ chance to live?”

“He made a mistake.”

“To err is human. Everyone makes mistakes, but they also deserve the chance to correct them.”

“Not so.”

What he ant was, not all mistakes deserved forgiveness.

For instance, leading Seventh Miss into danger.

That was unforgivable.

Jiang Ning spent a lot of effort trying to convince him, but it was just a waste of breath.

How could the values which Gucheng had been nurtured with for ten years by Jiang Mubai, change because of her few words?

“Let’s talk about this later, let’s visit Guying first.”

Jiang Ning opened the door and walked into Guying’s room.

The room was spotless, with just a faint sll of dicine lingered.

It made the room feel both cold and quiet.

Guying was sitting on the bed reading a book.

Dressed in a white nightwear, slender and pale, sitting with his legs crossed, he looked like a frail girl.

Upon seeing Jiang Ning co in, he quickly hopped off the bed, hiding the book behind him.

His small, fair face turned slightly embarrassed: “My humble regards, Seventh Miss.”

“Your foot injury hasn’t healed yet, sit still.” Jiang Ning pretended not to notice his little action, she carefully examined his face, nodding, “Well, you look a lot better, does the wound still hurt?”

“It doesn’t hurt anymore, thank you for your concern, Seventh Miss.” Guying glanced at Gucheng standing at the door, and quietly sat down.

Gucheng gave him a cold look.

Jiang Ning saw a bowl of white porridge and a small dish on the table, and laughed, “Is this all you’re eating? Uncle is too stingy, why doesn’t he even provide food for the injured?”

Gufeng whispered, “I don’t deserve it.”

“If you say that, I won’t be able to forgive myself.” Jiang Ning took out a roasted duck wrapped in oil paper and placed it on the table, “You’ve suffered so much all because of . My conscience is already burdened.”

Gufeng hurriedly waved his hands, “Seventh Miss, please don’t say that. Not being able to protect you properly was my own fault. Even if I were to die, it would only be just.”
