Chapter 620: Chapter 609 Forced into a Blind Date
A good night’s dream.
Fortunately, last night the two of them went back and brewed ginger tea to drink, so they were full of energy the next day.
Noon.
After Qiao Jing got off work, she was planning to head over to Wonderful Hall to see patients. Seeing patients was a secondary reason; the main reason was that today Chi Yuhang was coming to pick up his dicine.
She was worried sothing like last ti would happen, so she went straight to Wonderful Hall to watch Chi Yuhang take the dicine and leave before she could rest easy.
When Zhan Nanqing saw Qiao Jing preparing to leave, she thought of the patient Wu Xirui, who had called yesterday for a follow-up, and vigilantly stopped her.
“Qiao Jing, where are you going? Let go with you.”
Qiao Jing frowned slightly and glanced back at the docunts on the table.
Before she could ask about the progress of the work, Zhan Nanqing very conscientiously answered.
“I’ve already finished organizing all the docunts I need to deal with today. I can get off work early!”
Qiao Jing reached out and rubbed her brow, looking at Zhan Nanqing.
“I’m going to sit in at Wonderful Hall. Are you sure you want to co? Don’t you find it boring at all?”
She had brought Zhan Nanqing to Wonderful Hall more than once before, and she could clearly sense that Zhan was bored; otherwise, she wouldn’t be opening her phone and scrolling through videos or watching TV shows.
She had originally intended to use the tediousness of seeing patients at Wonderful Hall to deter Zhan Nanqing from following her, but to her surprise, not only did Zhan not give up the idea of accompanying her, she seed even more eager.
Zhan Nanqing also thought about being at Wonderful Hall; if Qiao Jing was busy seeing patients and didn’t have ti for her, she would indeed be bored just browsing on her phone.
But she was worried about Wu Xirui, that thick-skinned man, coming to Wonderful Hall again to look for Qiao Jing. If she wasn’t there, that would be troubleso.
After all, Wu Xirui’s skin was even thicker than her brother’s, and who knows, if Qiao Jing ignored him, he might just sit there next to her.
So she made up her mind to go with Qiao Jing.
“I’m not bored—just let go with you, please~”
Seeing Zhan Nanqing so stubborn, Qiao Jing sighed helplessly.
“Alright.”
Inside Wonderful Hall.
Qiao Jing had just sat down when she heard the ringtone of a phone nearby.
She glanced sideways at Zhan Nanqing, who was focused on her phone, noticing her frowning deeply and hesitating to answer the call.
Qiao Jing looked at her curiously and asked,
“What’s up? Whose call is it?”
Zhan Nanqing sighed and hung up the call, tossing her phone aside.
“My mom’s.”
Qiao Jing’s brows furrowed as she continued to inquire.
“Why didn’t you answer her call?”
She rarely saw conflict between the mother and daughter, and since their relationship was akin to sisters, Zhan Nanqing’s refusal to answer seed rather unusual.
Zhan Nanqing propped her cheeks with both hands and sighed deeply again.
“Why should I answer her calls? Every ti I do, she tells to go on blind dates. Just now, while chatting with her, I don’t know what got into her—did she read so toxic ‘chicken soup for the soul’ or sothing? She’s insisting I et these guys and telling to see more of whoever seems good, urging to date them, as if scared I won’t be able to marry. But I’m only in my early twenties!”
She was truly baffled. How could she possibly not get married? What on earth was her mother thinking?
She had only recently focused on her job instead of going out with friends to parties, and for so reason, this made her mom think she wouldn’t find soone to marry?
Moreover, in the upper circles of the imperial city, which man did she not know?
Hearing Zhan Nanqing’s words, Qiao Jing couldn’t help but hook the corner of her lips, looking at her with a mixed expression of amusent and incredulity.
“She’s worried you won’t be able to get married?”
She felt that with Zhan Nanqing’s qualifications, there was no possibility she couldn’t get married.
Furthermore, Zhan Nanqing was still young and didn’t need to be talking about marriage just yet; dating would be fine at this ti.
Zhan Nanqing, upset, slapped her thigh and complained pointing at her phone,
“Yeah! How could I not get married! She probably thinks I haven’t been going out with others lately, which is why she’s like this.”
The phone’s ringtone continued, but Zhan Nanqing showed no intention of answering it until the call hung up automatically. She then let out a sigh of relief.
“Ah, why does my mom always—”
Her words were cut short by another burst of ringing from her cellphone.
Qiao Jing raised an eyebrow slightly and looked at the worried Zhan Nanqing, then glanced at the still-ringing phone.
“You should answer it, or Madam Zhan will keep calling.”
Dragging this on wasn’t helping, and she knew that the Zhan family mbers were very stubborn. If she didn’t answer, Madam Zhan would persist until the call was picked up.
Zhan Nanqing then reluctantly grabbed the phone and pressed the answer button.
“Hello?”
Qiao Jing had originally wanted to see how Zhan Nanqing would handle the call, but just then, Chi Yuhang ca over to pick up his dicine, and she had to divert her attention.
“Did you co to get your dicine on ti this ti?”
After saying that, she handed over the dicine that had already been prepared by her assistant to Chi Yuhang.
Chi Yuhang scratched his head with a touch of embarrassnt, showing a simple and honest smile.
“Yes, I’m sorry, Doctor Qiao, I really caused you trouble last ti.”
He paused, looking at Zhan Nanqing who was next to him.
“Is Miss Zhan’s foot better now?”
Zhan Nanqing was currently in a heated argunt with Su Manhan and didn’t have the ti to deal with Chi Yuhang.
Qiao Jing had no choice but to answer for Zhan Nanqing.
“It’s better, don’t worry.”
Chi Yuhang finally relaxed, and took out a few hundred yuan from his pocket and placed them on the table.
“Doctor Qiao, is this enough for the dicine? I never got the chance to ask you how much exactly was for my grandfather’s dical fees?”
Qiao Jing looked at the few hundred yuan on the table and took three one hundred yuan notes.
“One hundred yuan per prescription, he took dicine three tis, so three hundred yuan is enough.”
She didn’t really want to take Chi Yuhang’s money, but considering his personal dignity, she reluctantly accepted a token amount.
Even though the dicine cost far more than three hundred yuan, she didn’t mind.
Her initial purpose in starting Wonderful Hall was to help others, and being able to assist Chi Yuhang was more than gratifying.
Hearing Qiao Jing’s words, Chi Yuhang furrowed his brow and looked down at the dicine in his hands.
“Doctor Qiao, I hope you’re charging the correct amount. Are you sure all this dicine is only one hundred yuan?”
He didn’t want to take undue advantage of Doctor Qiao; he wanted to pay exactly how much it should be.
He worked so hard at so many jobs just to earn enough for his grandfather’s dical bills. If Doctor Qiao was offering him a discount, he would feel uneasy.
Qiao Jing pretended to be stern and furrowed her brows, saying coldly,
“Don’t you trust ?”
She knew Chi Yuhang wasn’t easily fooled, so she didn’t expect him to believe her simply because she said the dicine was that cheap.
Qiao Jing glanced at the apprentice who was in charge of packing the dicine and slowly began to speak.
“If you don’t believe it, you can ask him. Besides, you were already getting a discount. That price is final.”
The apprentice imdiately caught on and nodded seriously.
“The price for your dicine is indeed what Doctor Qiao said, she’s not deceiving you.”
In reality, even with a discount, the cost of those dicines could never be one hundred yuan, because all the drugs at Wonderful Hall were top quality, and the purchase costs alone were already high, yet Doctor Qiao sold them for less than cost.
Chi Yuhang looked skeptically at the apprentice then back at Qiao Jing, choosing to believe them.
“Alright then, Doctor Qiao, I won’t disturb you any further, I’ll be on my way.”
Qiao Jing nodded, “Hmm,” she acknowledged.
Before Chi Yuhang could turn to leave, everyone present heard Zhan Nanqing’s roar of anger.
