Chapter 358: Chapter 347 Intentionally Getting Sick

Qiao Jing looked seriously at Zhan Qipei for a good while, and, after confirming the man really couldn’t eat anymore, she pursed her lips and thought of a compromise.

“Then, will you save it for dinner?”

Zhan Qipei agreed and put the bowl away properly.

In the afternoon at the office, he began to prepare a second plan.

In the end, he prepared a total of three thods.

After returning ho in the afternoon, Zhan Qipei pretended to reluctantly finish the lunch he had left over.

Throughout the entire al, Qiao Jing felt the man was becoming increasingly odd; he barely touched the food and seed preoccupied with heavy thoughts.

Could it be that he had encountered problems at work?

Qiao Jing didn’t pry too much; worrying that bringing it up would only add to his distress, she finished off the remaining food. Zhan Qipei, while Qiao Jing was eating, took his change of clothes and entered the bathroom with a solemn expression.

He was about to execute his second plan, to take a cold shower and induce a fever.

Zhan Qipei was concerned that a cold shower alone might not be enough; after showering, he hurried back to his room, closed the door, and reached for the air conditioning remote.

After setting the air conditioning to sixteen degrees Celsius, he sat in front of his desk and began to work.

It didn’t take long for Zhan Qipei to feel his body temperature rapidly dropping, the surrounding cold air enveloping him.

A bone-chilling cold rose within his body, but he maintained his previous actions, his eyes fixed on the laptop screen as he typed away at the keyboard.

Zhan Qipei’s lips were tightly pressed together, as if everything around him couldn’t affect him.

After handling his work, he stood up stiffly, turned off the air conditioning, and left the room.

Seeing that the door of the adjacent room was closed, he then stepped out.

Zhan Qipei hurriedly went to the bathroom, turned up the hot water, and quickly took a hot shower.

In the cold winter, such contrived actions would surely result in a fever, even if one wasn’t pending already.

When Qiao Jing walked out of her room wanting to drink so water, she noticed that the temperature in the living room had dropped significantly, and there were gusts of wind blowing through.

Because the air conditioning was on in the room, she was dressed quite lightly and shivered when the cold wind hit her.

Her gaze landed on the balcony, where she noticed the window was open, with a familiar silhouette standing by it.

Qiao Jing furrowed her brows and set down her cup.

After approaching Zhan Qipei, the cold wind from outside lifted her hair, and only then did she realize that the balcony’s breeze was colder than she had thought.

Yet Zhan Qipei seed oblivious to it, wearing only a loose bathrobe with a large part of the collar open, with so droplets of water still clinging to his neck and chest.

Confusion filled Qiao Jing’s cool eyes.

Hadn’t he already taken a shower?

Why take another?

Just as she was about to reach out to close the window, the man beside her suddenly stepped forward.

Zhan Qipei leaned out with most of his body, as if he were about to jump off the building.

Qiao Jing was startled and quickly grabbed the man, forcefully pulling him back.

“What are you doing?”

Zhan Qipei withdrew his gaze from the window and spoke as if nothing was amiss.

“Nothing much, just taking a look.”

She closed the window expressionlessly, turned around, and stared at Zhan Qipei with an inquisitive look.

“What’s the matter with you today?”

To check out the scenery, did it really require him to lean most of his body out of the window? A little further and he might have fallen.

She had felt sothing was off since noon, but it wasn’t so obvious, so she didn’t ask, but now with him seeking out the cold wind and even having thoughts of jumping off the building, Zhan Qipei definitely had encountered so issue.

Without speaking, Zhan Qipei shook his head and looked over at Qiao Jing, realizing she was only wearing a thin nightgown.

His heart suddenly skipped a beat; had his wife just been exposed to the cold wind with him?

Zhan Qipei smoothed his brows, and the tenseness in his side profile softened, his eyes shimring with deep self-reproach.

He reached out and took hold of the woman’s slender wrist, starting to lead her towards the room.

“I’m fine; did you get cold? Go sit in the room, and I’ll make you so ginger tea to drink to prevent catching a cold.”

As soon as Qiao Jing touched the man’s hand, she imdiately felt the abnormally high temperature radiating from his body, almost scalding to the touch.

She retracted her hand, and without waiting for Zhan Qipei to react, she placed her palm on his forehead.

Zhan Qipei stood frozen in place, motionless, his dark eyes fixed intently on Qiao Jing.

Qiao Jing furrowed her brows and, without a word, led him back into the living room and found a thermoter in the dicine box.

Based on the scorching heat of the man’s body, Zhan Qipei’s fever had to be at least 39 degrees.

She took out the thermoter from the dicine box, asured it, and it read 39.8 degrees.

No wonder it was so hot.

Qiao Jing then found several packets of dicine and placed them on the living room table, her tone tinged with reproach.

“You’ve got a fever, don’t you know? And you’re standing by the window in the cold draft?”

Zhan Qipei’s dark eyes sparkled.

He just knew it!

His wife would definitely feel sorry for him!

The ruse had indeed worked.

The man lowered his head, like a child who had done sothing wrong, his tone deliberately carrying a trace of grievance.

“I didn’t know I had a fever…”

Seeing Zhan Qipei’s pitiful expression, Qiao Jing’s anger dissipated on the spot, replaced by a sowhat inexplicable heartache.

Her tone softened significantly.

“Drink these dicines all mixed together.”

Zhan Qipei shook his head and stood up, trying to walk unsteadily back to his room.

“A nap will do.”

However, he had only taken a few steps when he began to fall uncontrollably to the ground.

Qiao Jing’s temples throbbed abruptly, and she quickly stepped forward to steady the man with her hands.

Upon closer contact with Zhan Qipei, she felt she was supporting a furnace, so hot that an egg could cook on it.

She suppressed her anger and gritted her teeth.

“Zhan Qipei, you have a fever, and you need to take your dicine.”

Zhan Qipei stubbornly tried to walk on, not giving those dicines a glance.

“No, a nap will do.”

Qiao Jing’s pent-up anger was on the verge of erupting, but the man looked up at her with a hazy gaze.

This drained her of her fury.

She repeatedly told herself in her mind that he had a fever now, was a patient, and just needed patience.

Qiao Jing started talking in a tone used to cajole children.

“Then let help you back to bed to rest first, and you can take the dicine later.”

Yet Zhan Qipei, stubborn as a child, carefully removed her hand and started walking toward the bedroom on his own.

Qiao Jing, speechless, twitched the corner of her mouth, picked up the packets of dicine from the table, stirred them, and brought them to Zhan Qipei’s room.

Seeing the man lying on the bed, feverish and confused, she lightened her steps and approached the bedside.

She wasn’t sure how Zhan Qipei had managed it, but the collar of the bathrobe he was wearing had opened even more, and the room was also cold, not even the air conditioning was on.

Feeling sowhat headachy, she picked up the remote control and found that the air conditioning was last set to 16 degrees.

In this weather, Zhan Qipei actually set the air conditioning to 16 degrees?

Qiao Jing looked doubtfully at the man lying in bed, but he was in no condition to answer her questions now.

She glanced at the man’s gaping collar, hesitating for a while.

If she let Zhan Qipei’s bathrobe stay open like this, he would certainly not recover from his illness.

Qiao Jing bit her lip and walked up to the bedside.
