(Amaia)

Taking the seat opposite him, I quickly begin, "If it’s about eating breakfast late, it’s entirely my fault, Sir. Kacir had to wait for and we got late," I lie, hoping Kacir is not in trouble because he is the one who ordered food.

Slowly, the headmaster shakes his head.

"It’s not about that. On weekends you people have the liberty to wake up late. An entirely different issue I want to discuss," he says calmly and leans back into the chair. It creaks under his shifting weight.

My heart slowly picks up the pace and I wonder what he is about to say. So many questions run through my brain.

Did Alnilam tell on ?

Or maybe Huradis contacted them and asked for my return.

It could also be Tarian.

But what the headmaster says leaves baffled.

"I haven’t heard my son laugh in a very long ti. What you accomplished today, no one could have for the past two years. Now I can see why he is attached to you."

Son? Did he say son? Does he an Kacir?

Oh my gosh.

The last na. Both of them have the sa last na. Why didn’t I see that before?

Kacir Fallon. Azian Fallon.

They are father and son.

Damnit, my friend is the son of the headmaster.

I open my mouth to say sothing but no sound escapes because I am still soaking in the shock.

"I am going to assu you didn’t know," he says quietly. "Kacir is not very fond of and he doesn’t want people to know we are related."

That’s why the staff listens to him, the sentinels speak respectfully to him and yet he is so down-to-earth.

"I didn’t know..." I breathe out, still recovering from this truth. Now I understand why the headmaster was staring at us during orientation. He was actually staring at his son.

"Understandable." He gives another hard stare. "I just want to ask what your intentions are towards my son? Since he chose to share a room with you instead of his mate," he asks, curiosity hidden with authority in his voice.

The tips of his long fingers touch each other as he steeple his hands.

"We are just friends, if that’s what you are asking. He is kind to when others are not, so we just connect," I answer truthfully, and he just silently watches . It feels like he is staring deep into my soul.

His gaze makes uneasy, not creep-uneasy but like soone who can stare deep within you and knows all your hidden secrets.

And he is the one who cordoned off the area where Rigel is kept. I don’t think I can trust this man.

"He has been in a fragile state of mind for the past few years. He lost his mother young and then his sister whom he adored." Headmaster Azian took in a deep breath, I could sense the pain he was holding. Losing two people so close brings the kind of pain that never goes away. You just learn to live with it.

He continues, "I am sure he already told you, if he hasn’t I am telling you."

I quietly nod.

"And then he had trouble with his mate and still does. My son can’t have any more heartbreaks. Don’t beco soone who hurts him." A threat underlines his calm voice.

I can understand that as a father, he is deeply concerned about his son, but at the sa ti, I realise he is the one who keeps pushing him to accept Rahria when Kacir is not ready. She deliberately cheated on him and hurt him in the worst possible ways and yet here he is lecturing .

"Sir, I assure you, I am not going to hurt Kacir. It’s Rahria you should be more concerned about," I say as smoothly and calmly as he had said.

Sothing flashes in his eyes as he regards carefully. His gaze lands on that silver streak in my hair and stays, making slightly nervous, but I keep a bold face.

For a few seconds, we just stare at each other. None of us look away.

"He made his intentions clear about that so no one will be pushing him anymore. Thank you for becoming his friend." Finally, his gaze leaves . I just nod.

"Where do you say you are exactly from? Not where you were raised but where you were born?" Alnilam seems to have given him the background knowledge on . He can’t let so random girl live in the sa room as his son.

No way I am telling him the na of my village. It’s still well-known that our village was one of the last to be invaded and my kind massacred. So I lie again.

"I don’t know, I was too young when that happened. Alpha Kalistian of the Silvershade Pack took in."

His fingers connect with each other again as he weighs my words. I snatch in a breath longer than normal to keep my heartbeat steady. Can’t have him knowing that I lied.

"And both your parents were humans?" He suspiciously asks the next question, straightening his chair and facing directly.

"Yes!" I answer rather quickly. He doesn’t need to know that I don’t know who my father is or was. For all that matters, he is already dead or doesn’t give a rat’s ass about .

"You have a spark, Amaia, which humans lack. Don’t lose it." I am not sure if he praised or just subtly pointed out that he doesn’t think I am human.

"I will try. I have an event to get to. So can I be excused now?"

He leans forward and places his hand on the table.

"Yes. If there is anything regarding Kacir you can always co talk to or if you need sothing, in that case too."

I stand up. I know he wishes to fish for information regarding his son. He doesn’t know he is trying the wrong girl. But I know how to play this ga, I have done it for far too long.

"I will, Sir. Have a good day."

With that, I get up and leave his office and that overwhelming feeling behind.
