In the forest not far from Professor Oak's lab, a girl stood silently on a tree branch. One hand rested against the trunk, the other adjusting a monocular-like device over her eye.
Inside the magnified lens, the screen showed Red, who had just happily left Professor Oak's lab, holding his newly received Pokédex, brimming with curiosity.
—
"That Red kid from yesterday… he's quite interesting, wtwo."
"Is that so…?"
wtwo's response was indifferent, as if it had absolutely no interest in Red.
Having lived at Professor Oak's lab for the past month, Logan had spent most of his ti chatting with wtwo. Professor Oak was constantly buried in his research. In truth, it had only been a few days since Logan escaped from Team Rocket and returned to Pallet Town. No one even noticed the professor had gone missing. Oak himself didn't want to make his ordeal public. He rely submitted a report to the Pokémon League, leaving the headaches to them.
The lab, despite housing many Pokémon, didn't belong to Logan. And since Pokémon, no matter how intelligent, couldn't talk, wtwo beca his only real companion to maintain so semblance of human socialization.
Last night, since it had grown late, Professor Oak let Red spend the night at the lab. Early that morning, Red officially set off on his journey. anwhile, Logan went about his usual routine—waking early, cooking, studying.
"Logan, could you co here for a mont?"
Just as he was about to rest after finishing his notes, he heard the professor calling him.
Although a bit puzzled, Logan quickly walked into Oak's research office. It was a spacious room with shelves lined with hundreds of Poké Balls, several high-tech computers running data simulations, and papers scattered across the desk. One machine particularly caught Logan's eye—it looked like a remote transmission device for Poké Balls, straight out of a sci-fi movie.
"Logan, there you are. Co, have a seat!"
Oak gestured to a chair beside his desk. Logan took the seat without hesitation. On the desk sat a family photo: Professor Oak with his son, daughter-in-law, and grandson Blue.
Logan rembered Oak once ntioning that his son and daughter-in-law lived in Viridian City. A month ago, when Blue was about to begin his journey, Oak had sent him there to spend ti with his parents. By now, Blue must've started his own adventure too.
At first, Oak didn't want Blue to beco a trainer. He hoped his grandson would choose the path of a researcher instead. As soone who had seen the dangers firsthand, Oak knew the brutal reality—trainers often died in the wild. Every year, the League received nurous reports of missing or deceased trainers—so many that people had beco numb to it. That's also why trainers were given high social status and special privileges—they needed protection and respect to survive their perilous roles. Of course, there were evil, powerful trainers too, with Team Rocket's leader being the pri example.
"After seeing Red yesterday, I realized I can't keep you here any longer, Logan. You have your own dreams—your own goals. It's ti you began pursuing them. You're different from most novice trainers. With wtwo's protection, you'll avoid many of the early pitfalls, but even so, I must urge you again: unless absolutely necessary, don't rely on wtwo. Not only for the sake of your body, but also so you don't beco dependent on it. That would only hinder your growth."
Oak's tone was solemn, filled with care.
"You've already told that once, Professor. I understand."
Logan replied calmly, though his eyes glead with excitent. He was finally going to explore the world with his own eyes.
"…Professor, don't tell that's all you called here for? Let guess—since I'm starting my journey, I'm getting my first Pokémon?"
wtwo was a special case. Regular rookie trainers wouldn't even dream of commanding a Pokémon of its caliber. Most couldn't even handle ones half as strong. That's why cultivating their own Pokémon was essential—building bonds from scratch, growing together, and becoming strong as a team.
"Hahaha! You're sharp, Logan. I won't lecture you anymore. I've already picked your starter Pokémon, but it's a surprise—I'll give it to you tomorrow."
Oak winked mysteriously.
"Besides giving you a send-off, the main reason I called you here is to explain your true uniqueness—the aning behind your surna is "Dragon Master"
Logan's expression turned serious. Truthfully, he had no idea what special power he supposedly held. Sure, he had occasionally felt odd sensations, but nothing concrete. He could use telekinesis to float chairs and tables with a flick of his finger—but that wasn't his power, it ca from wtwo. Due to their ntal link, he could channel so of its abilities, though his human body limited what he could do. He certainly couldn't start wars like wtwo could.
Now, finally, Professor Oak was ready to explain what "Dragon Force" truly ant. Logan was both nervous and intrigued.
Oak rummaged through so files as he spoke:
"Dragon-type Pokémon are extrely rare—not just in species, but in actual numbers. No matter the region, their populations are tiny and their birth rates low. That's why trainers with dragon Pokémon are so rare. Perhaps because of that, dragon-types possess extraordinary talent and raw power."
"But dragons also share a common trait—they're fiercely violent. Wild dragons are among the most aggressive predators. Even dosticated ones often rebel against their trainers. That's why ancient people grouped brutal Pokémon like Gyarados under the Dragon-type category. Of course, modern science showed Gyarados is actually Water/Flying—its energy field has no trace of dragon attributes."
Oak sorted his docunts with expert precision. As a top-tier researcher, he refused to draw conclusions without evidence. Over the past weeks, he had been compiling ancient records about the Yulong Clan, and today, he was finally ready to speak.
"Back in ancient tis, humanity was far weaker and fewer in number. They relied heavily on Pokémon to survive in a brutal world. Among their greatest threats were wild Dragon Pokémon—considered living disasters. These beasts would raze entire settlents, devour humans and their partners alike, leaving nothing behind."
"People tried to ta them—so succeeded, many failed. Compared to other species, dragons were almost impossible to control. It wasn't rare for them to attack their own trainers. But in the face of these natural calamities, a few humans evolved… as if blessed by nature itself. They awakened a unique ability. This was the origin of the Dragon Force!"
Oak's eyes lit up with passion. In the dusty texts and yellowed pages, he saw the legacy of humanity's survival and defiance.
"Those born with Dragon Force had an innate affinity with Dragon Pokémon. They could sense their thoughts and emotions, build bonds effortlessly, and, unlike others, never feared being attacked by them."
"The first Dragon Tar's na has been lost to history. But throughout modern records, individuals with this power occasionally appear. It doesn't seem to follow bloodlines—just like psychic powers or the Viridian aura. It manifests seemingly at random. Because of this, those who possess it are referred to as the 'Yulong Clan.' The most famous of them today is probably that Elite Four mber…"
Oak stroked his chin, still fascinated by the unknown.
"Now that you ntion it, this power suddenly doesn't feel that impressive."
Logan let out a bitter laugh. 'Yulong' sounded grand, but it seed a bit underwhelming in practical terms.
"That's only what most people see. But here's the truth—Team Rocket didn't target you just because you had Dragon Force. They believed you carried sothing even more precious—the Primordial Dragon Force. A power described as 'one who can control the might of dragons.' Not just affinity, Logan. Your presence boosts a dragon's power, nullifies their weaknesses. Under your command, they suffer no type disadvantage!"
Oak emphasized every word.
"According to recent studies, there's a newly discovered Fairy-type energy field—one that naturally counters Dragon-types. But with your power, that counter doesn't exist. Your dragons will be perfect. Unstoppable. This is why Team Rocket tried to bestow your gift upon wtwo—to free it from energy field limitations. But they failed. wtwo isn't a dragon."
"With your power, only true dragons will reach their full potential. They will be flawless. In ancient tis, wild dragons devastated humanity—but the first Dragon Tars fought back with dragons of their own. In that era, they were revered as—Dragon Slayers."
