After recalling Torkoal, Raihan tossed out another Pokéball, summoning his second Pokémon.
"Go, Goodra!"
A towering but gentle Goodra, resembling an oversized slug standing upright, appeared on the field, its body slick with what looked like corrosive sli.
"Goodra, the Dragon Pokémon. A pure Dragon-type known for its gentle disposition. It is said you can encounter one deep in the forests during rainy days."
Pure Dragon-types are rare among pseudo-legendaries—Goodra being one of the few.
Here it was: the pseudo-legend from Kalos—Goodra!
If Johan had a lasting impression of Goodra, it was probably... that Ash once released his Goodra.
"What a pity it's not the Hisuian Goodra," Johan mused inwardly.
"Oh snap, fully-evolved pseudo-legendaries are hitting the field!"
"Pseudo vs. pseudo—this is legit!"
"A pseudo-legendary cub is still a pseudo-legendary, no doubt."
The crowd buzzed with excitent at the sight of Goodra.
Larvitar's a pseudo too, right?
This match-up felt fitting.
Goodra was sotis nicknad the "Grass-Eating Dragon," not just because of its "Sap Sipper" ability, but because it could learn tons of Grass-type moves.
Including powerful ones like Power Whip.
And Grass and Water moves? Both pretty dangerous for Larvitar...
So Johan didn't hesitate the mont Goodra entered the battlefield.
"Co back, Larvitar!"
No way was he about to let a baby Larvitar fight a fully evolved pseudo-legendary Goodra.
No matter how well Johan raised it, that would just be suicide.
After all...
Larvitar was barely three months old.
Even if it had a monstrous appetite.
And when you swap first, you naturally fall into a reactive stance.
"Goodra, huh..."
Johan's eyebrow twitched slightly. His belt jingled softly.
He smiled.
"In that case—you're up, Dragonite!"
A flash of red light—and the hefty Dragonite, wings flapping excitedly, soared onto the field.
"Oooohh—!!"
Dragonite twirled through the air despite its chubby body, full of energy.
A Dragonite never weaker than any Dragon.
Sensing another pseudo-legendary Dragon-type opponent, Dragonite was eager.
"It's still a pseudo showdown—just subbing in a fully evolved one!"
"Johan be like: 'Who doesn't have a fully evolved pseudo-legendary lying around?'"
"And honestly, Dragonite and Goodra do look kinda alike..."
The audience laughed as the two titans faced off.
"Goodra, Rain Dance!"
Without Larvitar on the field anymore, the Sandstorm still persisted—but Goodra's Rain Dance easily dispelled it.
The golden sands fell, replaced by steady rainfall.
"The cursed fate of Sandstorm always getting ruined by Rain Dance," Johan muttered.
Well, Larvitar was already off-field.
And now—rain fell in sheets, polishing Dragonite's scales and soaking Goodra's already slimy body.
This needed to be appreciated.
"Dragonite, Hurricane!"
"Oooooh—!!"
Dragonite's short wings flapped violently. Two cyclones ford and rged into a massive hurricane, blasting toward Goodra.
Rainy weather: the perfect setup for storms and lightning.
The hurricane lashed down with slicing windblades.
"Hydro Pump!"
Hydro Pump's accuracy wasn't perfect—but Raihan wasn't aiming to hit Dragonite. He just wanted to break up the Hurricane.
Plus, rain boosted Hydro Pump's power.
"Goodraaaaa!!"
Goodra inhaled deeply, sucking in rain and ground water, and launched a massive water blast straight at Dragonite's hurricane.
BOOM!
Water and wind clashed, scattering droplets and raising a heavy mist.
"Thunder," Johan said calmly, adjusting his glasses.
All that water? Waste not.
CRACK—
Thunder rumbled. Blue lightning twisted within the clouds.
Then—BOOM—a massive bolt exploded downward toward Goodra.
For a mont, the entire world seed to lose its color—only lightning remained.
"Goodraaa!!"
Goodra howled in pain.
This is the drawback of manually changed weather—if you have to use a move to set the weather, you're vulnerable.
Raihan's Goodra was fast—but Dragonite?
Big but surprisingly nimble.
They exchanged blows—and Dragonite seized the montum.
As for Goodra resisting Electric moves?
It didn't matter.
Even Onix, a Ground-type, could get zapped hard if drenched.
Goodra, soaked from Hydro Pump, got absolutely roasted by Thunder.
"This rain... feels like it's helping the opponent more!"
"Johan's probably thinking: 'Thanks for the weather boost!'"
"I get it now! The best way to beat weather teams is... join them!"
Use the opponent's weather to your advantage.
Sure, rain helps Goodra.
But it helps Dragonite just as much.
And now Raihan realized: Johan's Dragonite wasn't just surviving the rain—it was thriving in it.
And his mastery over weather-based moves?
Way too smooth.
Raihan had no choice—switching Goodra would only make things worse.
Fine.
Then FIGHT!
"Goodra, Acid Spray!"
Forget the rain—rely on Goodra's innate abilities.
"Goodraaa!!"
Goodra's belly bulged—and thick, corrosive acid splattered toward Dragonite.
Acid Spray, hard to dodge.
Sssss—
Dragonite's scales hissed as the acid sizzled on contact.
[Acid Spray: sharply lowers the target's Special Defense!]
"Raihan switched tactics." Cynthia smiled approvingly.
When battling anyone—especially Johan—you can't let them dictate the pace.
Fall into their rhythm, and you'll lose sooner or later.
Goodra's Acid Spray sharply lowered Dragonite's special defense—and broke Dragonite's Multiscale ability (which halves incoming damage at full HP).
Seeing Raihan not fall for his bait, Johan just smirked—and adjusted his own approach.
If Special Defense is weakened, then obviously—
"Dragonite, Dragon Rush!"
"Ooooh—!!"
Dragonite cloaked itself in a dragonic aura, diving toward Goodra like a cot.
At the sa ti, Raihan's eyes glead.
Both sides reset.
And with Dragonite's defenses down, Raihan had the upper hand.
"Goodra, Draco teor!!"
Old-school na—now called Draco teor.
"Goodraaa!!"
Goodra ignored the incoming Dragonite, conjured a magma-like fireball, and launched it skyward.
It exploded overhead, raining down a storm of blazing teors.
Huge craters exploded across the field.
Yep—Draco teor.
Lower your opponent's defenses, then nuke them with the strongest Dragon-type move.
But.
Dragonite was already diving toward Goodra at full force.
BOOM!
Mud and water sprayed.
teors rained down.
BOOM BOOM—
Explosions rocked the field.
Then—silence.
Everyone held their breath.
Next second—
Whoosh—
Dragonite, scorched and battered, burst from the mud mist back into the air.
Still standing!
And in the mud pit—
Goodra, gasping for air—
Also still standing!
Barely.
Cynthia leaned forward, explaining:
"Goodra used the muddy ground to form a barrier over its body. Dragonite used the water mist to soften the teor impacts."
Without the comntary, nobody would've noticed!
Both had countered perfectly.
In short...
This rain? Still helping Johan more.
Because Draco teor has a huge drawback—sharply lowering the user's Special Attack.
aning Goodra's Sp.Atk was now -2.
"Dragonite, again! Dragon Rush!"
Johan roared.
When it ca to Dragon-on-Dragon duels—Dragonite feared no one.
Just finished one? Do it again!
Raihan's face changed.
"Goodra, Muddy Water—defend yourself!"
Goodra conjured a thick muddy barrier to distort Dragonite's aim.
"Dragon Rush's accuracy isn't great—and Muddy Water makes it worse," Raihan gritted his teeth.
"He'll miss for sure!"
But—
Johan smirked.
Dragonite?
It didn't play fair.
"Extre Speed!"
BOOM—
The air vibrated.
Rain droplets danced.
Dragonite disappeared from view.
Next second—
CRASH!!!
Muddy Water exploded apart.
Goodra lay defeated in the mud pit.
"Goodra is unable to battle!"
The referee wiped mud off his face and raised the flag.
On the big screen, the icon next to Raihan's face dimd.
"Please send out your next Pokémon!"
"Oooohh—!!"
Dragonite roared triumphantly from the air, patting its big belly.
"It actually hit?!" soone yelled.
"Of course—it's Johan's Dragonite!"
"Newbie alert! Johan's Dragonite doesn't care about accuracy rates!"
"You can always trust Johan's luck, just like you trust his Dragonite's OPness."
Raihan took a deep breath.
That rain... seriously backfired.
"Fine then..."
He threw another Pokéball.
"Torkoal!"
Drought activated!
"Shwooo—"
Torkoal returned, battered but burning, switching the rain to harsh sunlight.
Seeing this, Johan imdiately recalled Dragonite.
After all, Dragonite needed rest after that brawl.
And who replaced him?
"Yoji! Yoji!!"
Larvitar, bouncing happily like a little Totodile, reentered the field—waving at Torkoal.
Torkoal: "..."
You're after again, aren't you?
Its shell still ached faintly.
Rustle rustle—
Sand whipped up again.
"Wait—isn't this... déjà vu?"
"We're back to square one?"
"Are we stuck in a loop?!"
The audience chuckled nervously.
"Torkoal, Overheat!"
Raihan wasn't fazed.
Overheat—a massive Fire-type nuke—would massively drop Torkoal's Special Attack afterward.
Flas roared from Torkoal, engulfing the battlefield.
Tiny Larvitar seed even more helpless and pitiful amidst the inferno.
"Stomp!"
But Johan's command was steady.
Larvitar stomped the ground—fracturing it.
In the end—
Flas consud Larvitar, but Stomp's shockwave crushed Torkoal.
Torkoal—KO'd!
"You did great, Torkoal," Raihan said, recalling it.
"Yoji! Yoji!" Larvitar, now covered in soot, proudly bounced back to Johan.
"You did great too, Larvitar," Johan smiled, patting its head.
Who would've thought?
Larvitar had scored a KO at the Masters Tournant!
The little guy had started to realize its potential.
And Raihan?
He tossed his third Pokéball.
Since Johan could use his weather...
It was their turn to use Larvitar's Sandstorm.
"Go, Flygon!"
Raihan had learned quickly.
