"Is that... Teacher Johan with Cynthia and Caitlin?"

So distance from the center of Opelucid City, two Trainers suddenly ca to a stop.

One of them, holding a book and wearing a black skirt, with round-fra glasses glinting under the light, seed quite familiar with Teacher Johan.

This was Wanlong, a renowned young writer from the Unova region, and also a Trainer with formidable strength.

"It looks like it's already started."

Beside Wanlong was a tall, muscular young man with a buzz cut and a hardened face, dressed in martial arts gear.

This was Lenwu, Unova Champion Alder's disciple—a martial artist specializing in Fighting-type Pokémon, and also quite powerful.

Though neither had yet beco mbers of the Unova Elite Four, their strength and talent were undeniable.

Wanlong focused on writing as her primary career, while Pokémon training remained her side pursuit. After all, in the world of Pokémon, not having a main and side job was rare.

Lenwu, on the other hand, was devoted to combat and strength—perhaps even to an obsessive degree—and was still under observation.

Both of them, however, could play a crucial role in this unfolding crisis.

Wanlong and Lenwu exchanged glances, each spotting the flicker of excitent in the other's eyes.

Wanlong had long heard from Diantha and Cynthia that Teacher Johan had exceptional writing talent. The wildly popular owth & Pichu was written by him. Other screenplays like Infernape Wreaks Havoc on Mt. Coronet, Dreamspace, and Gardevoir and the Seven Taggers were also his work.

So scripts hadn't even been released due to technical reasons.

Wanlong was eager to discuss writing with him.

As for Lenwu? His reason was simple.

As a martial artist, Johan's reputation was stellar.

Praised highly by both Master Mustard, the strongest forr Champion of Galar, and Bruno, the Kanto Elite Four mber—how could he not want to challenge him?

Even his master Alder had nothing but praise for Johan.

Lenwu respected Alder deeply but didn't always listen to him. Still, the gap in their strength always frustrated him.

Now, eting soone whom even his master admired—a fellow renowned "martial artist"—Lenwu felt his fists itch with anticipation.

But first, they had to help resolve the situation in Opelucid.

Inside the Team Plasma airship, Colress sat calmly in the control room, eyes fixed on the projection on his tablet.

That Zinzolin would fail to take Drayden? Expected.

Even with the Dark Triad? Still expected.

Unova's forces might be drawn to Mistralton, but that didn't an they were helpless elsewhere.

In Colress's eyes, Zinzolin and the Dark Triad were just scouts—to test Opelucid's defenses.

And they were doing a fine job.

But there was sothing unexpected.

Colress smiled faintly at the figure on-screen.

"Teacher Johan... we et again."

Had Johan unraveled Team Plasma's plan? Or just happened to be there?

Colress suspected the latter—but it didn't matter.

"In the face of absolute power, guesswork doesn't matter."

He leaned back and pressed a button.

Buzz—

A peculiar pulse spread outward from the Team Plasma airship.

At the sa ti, the hidden ship, nestled in clouds above Opelucid, powered up and advanced—soon appearing within Johan and his companions' line of sight.

The sound of turbines and engines echoed.

"Look!" Caitlin raised her hand and looked up.

From among the skyscrapers, the head of the enormous flying battleship erged. Following was its massive hull, wings, rotors, and thrusters.

The enormous vessel lood like a fortress in the sky, casting a deepening shadow over Opelucid—a darkness ready to devour everything.

Johan and Cynthia's expressions turned grim.

Team Plasma's airship.

"So it really ca..." Cynthia murmured.

They stood on a mid-height rooftop, wind tugging at their clothes as the monstrous craft induced growing panic among the citizens below.

More than that—

The strange pulses emanating from the airship were riling up Pokémon throughout the city!

"What the—?"

"Colress's Machine." Johan narrowed his eyes.

This was ant to spread chaos on a large scale?

And of course, it wasn't just that.

Colress's smile deepened.

He whispered to himself, staring at Johan on-screen:

"Of course not..."

Madness flared in his eyes.

He turned to the rear of the ship, where a massive container sat, filled with strange liquid. Inside slumbered a grotesque, dragon-like beast.

Kyurem.

"More dosage!"

The liquid bubbled.

Kyurem's closed eyes twisted with pain. Ice energy surged from its body—rapidly sucked up by the surrounding machinery, freezing the entire chamber in seconds.

Exactly what Colress wanted.

Control Kyurem? Not yet possible.

But control its energy? That was enough!

Colress stood with arms wide open, glasses gleaming with madness.

Let the world witness the genius of Colress!

He returned to calm. "Prepare to fire."

"Yes, sir!"

Three... Two... One... FIRE!

BOOOOM!!!

Colress smiled faintly. "Let's see how you handle this, Johan."

Back in Opelucid—

"They're coming!" Johan gritted his teeth.

Colress had played it carefully—using Zinzolin and the Triad to draw attention, then unleashing chaos from above.

And now—

wtwo appeared beside Johan, eyes narrowing as it looked skyward.

"What?" Cynthia and Caitlin didn't yet understand.

But then they saw it: a tal cannon extended, glowing with chilling blue energy.

Their eyes widened.

Wanlong and Lenwu, far off, were similarly stunned.

A massive icy beam roared down from the sky, striking the city's tallest tower.

CRACK!

In an instant, the tower froze solid.

And it didn't stop.

Ice energy spread outward like a tsunami, freezing all in its path.

Freeze Opelucid City.

Drayden's heart trembled.

Zinzolin, anwhile, sneered triumphantly.

"Don't want to hand over the Splicers? Then let us show you our power."

He spread his arms wide.

"Welco the frozen world!"

Wanlong and Lenwu stared in horror.

What could they do?

This wasn't sothing a normal Trainer or Pokémon could deal with.

Panic seized the city.

People scread.

And just then—

WHOOSH—

A single figure flew straight into the beam of ice!

wtwo.

Serious-faced, wrapped in psychic energy, it raised one arm high.

Ice and psychic power collided—shards flying everywhere.

And sohow, the beam... didn't advance further.

"Cynthia! Caitlin!"

Johan mounted Dragonite and soared toward the nearest rooftop to the ship.

"Freeze Opelucid? Ask us first!"

Everyone watching fell silent.

Who was this Pokémon that could stop such an apocalyptic blast?

Wanlong and Lenwu exchanged stunned glances.

"Could that be... Johan's?"

A legendary?

Of course.

"Still think he's not the 'Legendary Guy'?" Lenwu muttered.

"Impossible!!" Zinzolin roared.

That was Kyurem's power!

How could a Pokémon block that?!

Drayden breathed a sigh of relief.

No civilians near the tower—thank goodness.

And with the beam blocked, the worst had been avoided. For now.

People began to stop fleeing.

Their hope reignited.

"It's Teacher Johan!"

"And Miss Cynthia and Lady Caitlin!"

Even Colress was stunned.

That Pokémon—he'd never seen or even heard of it before.

"A new variable..."

He didn't panic.

He smiled.

"Excellent."

"Increase the dose—fire again!"

"But sir..." the Plasma grunt hesitated.

More dosage? Kyurem might wake up!

But Colress's chilling gaze silenced him.

"Yes, sir!"

ROOOOARR!!!

Kyurem's pain echoed—but more power surged.

Colress gave one final order:

"Send my little gift... to Teacher Johan."

"Yes!"

The ship's bay opened—releasing hordes of Klink and Klang.

Colress's favorite: machine-like loyalty.

Inside the beam, wtwo winced, hands raised, still holding off the assault—but visibly struggling now.

On the rooftop, Johan watched.

He took a deep breath.

The cold stung his lungs.

His Pokémon appeared beside him in flashes of red.

"Ninetales!"

"Oowoo~!!"

The icy energy was like fuel for her.

As for the gears? Johan didn't even glance.

Cynthia and Caitlin would handle them.

He looked through the ship's cockpit window—and locked eyes with Colress.

Colress smiled provocatively.

"So what now, Teacher Johan?"

Johan adjusted his glasses, hand brushing the Key Stone at his waist.

What now?

What else?

Colress used a whole city as a bargaining chip.

It was ti to respond in kind.

His hand tightened on the Key Stone.

His eyes t wtwo's.

wtwo nodded.

Let's try.

Johan took another deep breath.

Buzz—

"wtwo, ga Evolve!!"
