Alliance Calendar Year 200, November 3 — Winter.

A cold wind swept down from the peak of the mountain, carrying frost and snow across the vast lands of Paldea. Delicate snowflakes drifted from the sky, blanketing the earth in shimring white.

In the wild, Pokémon had already retreated into their dens, making it difficult to spot any movent beyond the occasional tracks left in the snow.

The ranch was no exception. A soft layer of white covered the fields, and the snowflakes dancing in the air looked like tiny winter sprites, floating playfully between the heavens and the earth.

With winter setting in, the ranch was no longer suitable for growing crops. Long before the first heavy snowfall, Naoki had decided to give the Dragonites a well-earned break, allowing them to stay warm at the World Tree and enjoy the season in comfort.

The ranch store had also temporarily closed, making things unusually quiet.

With Eeveelutions and Ogerpon off playing at the World Tree, only a few Pokémon remained at ho.

Inside the cozy living room, Slugma had curled up in the fireplace, its fiery body acting as a natural heat source, warming the entire house through the interconnected pipes—even the utility room was toasty.

Near the fireplace, Naoki sat comfortably in a rocking chair, lost in thought. Beside him, Cyclizar and Koraidon lounged lazily on the carpet, basking in the warmth.

Turning his gaze toward the two Pokémon at his side, Naoki’s thoughts unexpectedly drifted back to the sumr three months ago.

That night, under the glow of the fireworks, Iono had confessed to him.

At the ti, Naoki had been completely caught off guard, too stunned to respond imdiately.

Seeing his reaction, Iono had looked a little… disappointed.

Even now, Naoki still rembered the words he had spoken to her.

"This is… a bit sudden."

A sense of guilt lingered in his heart when he recalled the crestfallen look on Iono’s face.

The truth was, he did feel sothing for her.

He had admitted as much that night, explaining that he had never been in love before—that he didn’t truly understand what love was.

For Naoki, relationships had always been sothing he took very seriously. After coming to this world, he had once envisioned building a life of his own, a future where he wasn’t alone.

He had imagined what it would be like to have a child, to take them on journeys across Paldea.

A simple, ordinary life—but a fulfilling one.

Even though he hadn’t given Iono a direct answer that night, she still smiled when she learned that he cared about her.

Soti after the festival, the two of them had run into Geeta and Rika at the beach.

Geeta had claid that she was simply "inspecting Kosaji Town," but the mischievous glint in her eye made Naoki suspect otherwise.

After that night, he and Iono had gone back to their usual routines.

Still, as ti passed, her visits to the ranch beca more frequent.

She would always bring sothing with her—homade snacks, small gifts for the Pokémon, little surprises that made the quiet ranch feel a little more alive.

And Naoki, without realizing it, had started looking forward to those monts.

A soft smile crept onto his lips as he recalled those mories.

Today was Sunday. Levincia Gym was closed on Sundays. If things followed the usual pattern… she should be here by now.

His gaze drifted toward the clock on his Rotom Phone.

Almost noon.

'…Why am I checking the ti?'

At that mont, Naoki suddenly beca aware of his own behavior.

He had been waiting for her.

Subconsciously.

Expectantly.

Before he could dwell on it, Indeedee peeked at him from the corner of the room, secretly observing his expression.

After watching for a while, Indeedee couldn’t help but waddle over and ask innocently,

"Ai Ai?" (Are you waiting for Iono to co over?)

Caught off guard, Naoki quickly straightened his posture and replied with an overly serious expression,

"No, I’m just checking tomorrow’s weather."

But Indeedee saw right through him.

Her large eyes twinkled mischievously, and a knowing smile spread across her face.

"Ai Ya!" (That ans the little master will be here soon!)

In Indeedee’s mind, as long as two Pokémon liked each other, eggs were bound to be laid sooner rather than later.

And if that was how things worked for Pokémon, then surely, humans must be the sa!

Naoki: "…"

He let out a small cough, realizing that Indeedee’s understanding of relationships was entirely shaped by her role as a Pokémon caretaker.

Clearing his throat, he gently corrected her.

"Ahem… No, it’s not quite like that!"

Indeedee turned around, tilting her head in confusion.

"Ai eh?" (Huh?)

Naoki sighed, knowing he needed to explain things properly.

"There are so big differences between humans and Pokémon when it cos to this," he began. "For Pokémon, as long as they like each other and spend ti together, they eventually lay eggs."

"But for humans, it’s different. Liking soone is important, but the real question is whether two people are compatible in their daily lives. Only after truly understanding and adjusting to each other do they consider marriage and living together."

"Ai ah…" Indeedee blinked in realization. Humans sure are complicated!

As Naoki finished his explanation, a familiar voice chirped excitedly nearby.

Pawmot had overheard the conversation.

It imdiately dashed over, sparks crackling from its fur.

"Bamo! Bamo?" (Wait—does this an the little master will live with us?!)

Before Naoki could respond, Indeedee puffed up her chest and answered with complete confidence.

"Aye!" (Of course! My brother and I will take great care of them when the ti cos!)

Naoki: "…"

Seeing the enthusiasm in their eyes, Pawmot’s thoughts started racing. Its tail twitched, and its ears perked up as it suddenly had another idea.

"Bamo Bamo?" (Wait… if that happens, does that an Naoki will have a granddaughter? Will his granddaughter co visit us at the ranch? Can we beco good friends?!)

This ti, even Indeedee hesitated.

"Ai eh?" (Isn’t it a little too early to think about that…?)

Naoki: "…"

Feeling a headache coming on, Naoki reached out and gently ruffled Pawmot’s fur.

"Maybe you should stop watching Warm Slugma House so much."

"Bamo~"

Pawmot nuzzled into Naoki’s chest, happily accepting the affection.

But despite his protest, Naoki found his own thoughts drifting forward in ti.

He suddenly pictured a distant future—one where his children’s children would co to visit the ranch.

A small child running through the fields. A group of playful Pokémon following behind. The laughter of the next generation echoing through the ranch.

By that ti, he’d be in his seventies or eighties, wouldn’t he?

Oops.

He had gotten completely carried away by Pawmot’s words!

Shaking his head, Naoki quickly erased the thought from his mind.

As Naoki sat by the fireplace, he pulled out his Rotom Phone and sent a quick ssage to Iono.

[Naoki: Are you coming over today?]

There was no imdiate reply.

Just as he was about to put his phone away, a knock sounded at the door.

Before Naoki could react, Pawmot, who had been lingering near the entrance, dashed forward excitedly to open it.

As the door swung open, a gust of cold wind swept into the house—along with a familiar figure standing outside.

Iono stood there, smiling despite the freezing temperature.

"Whew! It’s really cold today!" she said, rubbing her hands together for warmth.

It was true—Iono had always been sensitive to the cold.

In past winters, she usually stayed inside, bundled up with her Pokémon, avoiding the freezing weather at all costs.

Naoki chuckled, standing up from his seat. "Co warm up by the fire. Since it snowed yesterday, I heard an old saying: 'It’s not the snow that makes you cold—it’s when it lts.'"

"Oh, I know that one!" Iono laughed, stepping inside and heading straight for the fireplace.

As she knelt beside the warm Slugma, its glowing body cast an orange-red light across the cozy room, making everything feel even more inviting.

anwhile, Naoki made his way to the kitchen, pouring her a cup of hot tea to help chase away the cold.

As Iono sat down, Indeedee and Pawmot trotted up, curiously observing her.

She waved at them with a cheerful "Good morning!" before turning to greet the others. "Morning, Cyclizar! Hey, Koraidon!"

"Ah, gah~!"

"Gah!"

At that mont, Naoki returned with the steaming cup of tea.

As he handed it to her, his gaze lingered for a second—sothing about Iono felt… different today.

Then it hit him.

The signature Magnemite hair accessories were gone.

"Wait… where’s Magnemite?" Naoki asked, a bit surprised.

At his question, Iono suddenly rembered.

She reached up and touched her head almost instinctively, before looking away a little awkwardly.

"I just felt like… that kind of style is sothing kids would be into," she muttered, clearly a little embarrassed. "It seed… kind of childish."

Ever since that sumr night, after parting ways with Naoki, she had been thinking a lot.

She wanted to change.

She wasn’t just a strear, wasn’t just a Gym Leader—she was an adult now. And if she wanted Naoki to see her as one, then maybe… she needed to act the part.

For a mont, Naoki was stunned.

Had she made this change… for him?

Before he could process it, Iono suddenly lifted her head, cheeks slightly flushed.

Then, she asked him directly—

"What about now?"

Naoki blinked. "Huh?"

Iono’s hands tightened slightly around her cup as she looked at him with hopeful eyes.

"Do you like more now?"

Naoki felt his breath catch.

He wasn’t sure how to respond at first—his usual calm, composed self was suddenly at a loss for words.

But the way she looked at him, the way she had taken the initiative…

He couldn't just stay silent.

Taking a deep breath, Naoki steadied himself. This wasn’t easy for him to say.

But if Iono had the courage to be so open, then he couldn’t keep running away either.

Finally, he spoke, serious and sincere—

"I still don’t really understand what love is…"

"But if seeing you, talking to you, and spending ti with you is sothing I look forward to every day…"

He looked directly into her eyes.

"Then I think… I probably like you too."

"Ah, gah~!"

From the side, Koraidon, who had been silently observing, let out a pleased growl, as if satisfied with this developnt.

Nearby, Indeedee and Pawmot exchanged excited glances.

Finally—they didn’t have to worry about Naoki dying alone!

Sure, Pokémon would always be there to keep him company, but… there were so things only humans could do for each other.

And as far as they were concerned, Naoki deserved that happiness.

anwhile, Pawmot and Slugma had completely different thoughts.

Pawmot’s tail twitched excitedly.

"Bamo Bamo!" (This ans Naoki will have a granddaughter!)

And if Naoki had a granddaughter…

She would visit the ranch. She would beco their friend. Just like in Warm Slugma Ho!

Naoki: "..."
