When the hatching process was complete, Chris opened Sargle's stats panel to check its individual values. If the values weren't up to par, he planned to train it further.

[Sargle (Normal)]

[Grade 1]

[Ability: Moody (At the end of each turn, one of Attack, Defense, Special Attack, Special Defense, or Speed is randomly increased by 2 levels, while another is decreased by 1 level.)]

[Individual values: HP (25), Attack (31), Special Attack (31), Defense (21), Special Defense (17), Speed (31)]

[Move: Sketch]

[Held item: None]

Chris noted, "3 perfect IVs in Attack, Special Attack, and Speed. That's good enough." Sargle was already capable of being a useful support Pokémon, even though its ability, Moody, made it a bit unpredictable.

He kept a record of the details.

The Poké Ball containing Sargle fell into Chris's hands, and he decided to release it.

"Wang woo~" Sargle tilted its head, blinking at Chris curiously.

Suddenly, its eyes sparkled, and before Chris could say anything, Sargle dashed toward him, tail raised.

Thinking Sargle was about to give him a big, affectionate hug, Chris extended his arms. But Sargle had other ideas—it leapt onto Chris's shoulders, jumped off, and bounded toward a nearby white wall, using its tail like a paintbrush.

With a single stroke, a bold green slash appeared on the wall.

And that was just the beginning. Sargle seed to be fully inspired, entering a frenzy of creative expression.

To Chris, though, this wasn't art—it was pure graffiti.

Clearly, Sargle's "shocking art" wasn't landing with its trainer.

Sighing, Chris pulled out white paint and so paper he'd ordered from his phone. After Sargle had finished its little art session, Chris repainted the wall and gave Sargle the paper for future masterpieces.

Next, Chris called his counselor, Olivia.

"Counselor, my Pokémon egg hatched," he said.

"What? The egg you got this morning hatched already? Did you cook it?" Olivia's surprised voice echoed from the other end of the line.

"Can raising the temperature speed up the incubation process?" Chris wondered aloud.

"No way!" Olivia replied. "Unless you used sothing like Fla Body or Magma Armor to help."

Chris rembered that Pokémon with abilities like Fla Body or Magma Armor could indeed speed up egg hatching. If he ever wanted to try breeding shiny Pokémon in the future, it would be smart to get a Pokémon with one of those abilities.

"Of course, it's impossible otherwise. Just bring it to the breeding hut," Olivia sighed.

"Alright, I'll bring it over now. I was just about to head out for lunch anyway."

After ending the call, Chris let Sargle play a bit more before recalling it into its Poké Ball.

Chris hopped onto his sonic bike and pedaled toward the breeding hut. The bike, a gift from the owner of the Mauville City bike shop, was nad the "sonic bike" more for flair than function. It certainly couldn't reach the speed of sound, and even if it could, Chris would probably have to pedal so hard that sparks would fly.

When he arrived at the breeding hut, the entrance was quiet, with only a few senior students coming and going. Counselor Olivia and a senior student were already waiting for him outside.

"Here!" Olivia called, gesturing for Chris to co inside.

"Let's take a look at your newly hatched Pokémon."

Chris released Sargle from its Poké Ball. The mont it hit the ground, Sargle's eyes darted around, clearly looking for a wall to mark with its tail-paint.

Before it could find one, Olivia and the senior student had surrounded it.

"It's a Sargle! You're lucky," the senior exclaid, squatting down to get a closer look at the Pokémon. "I tried to catch one for my sister to paint with, but I searched for half a month in the mountains and never found one." She reached out to touch Sargle's fur.

"Wang woo~~" Sargle grumbled, visibly annoyed, but since Chris didn't object, it tolerated the attention.

"What do you think?" Olivia asked the senior.

"The skin is soft, and the fur is thin—definitely a newborn Pokémon," the senior concluded. She then gave Chris so advice. "For the first three days, make sure to only feed it milk, preferably Moomoo Milk."

Olivia turned back to Chris. "This batch of Pokémon eggs was supposed to hatch in about seven days. Even with accelerated incubation, it should've taken at least four or five. How did yours hatch in just half a day?"

"Sotis there are outliers," the senior shrugged. "We can't fully control when Pokémon eggs hatch. Maybe this Sargle was just too eager to explore the world."

Olivia sighed. "I was hoping to use this batch to teach students how to care for eggs and stimulate their interest, but now... Well, there goes the enthusiasm."

She then looked at Chris and said, "Since your Sargle is a normal type, I'll send you a Silk Scarf tomorrow."

"Thank you, Counselor!" Chris quickly replied, grateful for the free item.

Curious, Chris asked, "What's the second stage of military training?"

"The second stage is training on Trial Island with the Battle Departnt," Olivia replied.

Chris froze. "So if I haven't hatched a Pokémon, does that an I won't get the reward?"

The current task was to hatch a Pokémon, and since Chris had already done so, he figured he could enjoy seven days of free ti in the dorm instead of participating in military training.

"Don't worry," Olivia reassured him. "Even though we're going with the Battle Departnt, as part of the Breeding Departnt, your task is just to collect Berries."

"Trial Island No. 3 has plenty of Berries. In addition to delivering the assigned ones, you can collect extras to feed your Pokémon," she added. "Plus, whoever collects the most will get a reward—another Pokémon item."

"Is it a rare treasure-level item?" Chris asked eagerly.

Olivia rolled her eyes. "What do you think?"

"Forget it," Chris muttered. "I just got a mission from Professor Theodore, so I won't be going."

Without another word, he turned on his heel and walked away, uninterested in the prospect of earning a regular Pokémon item.

Afterward, Chris had a al in the school cafeteria, returned to his dorm, and settled in to relax. He picked up his tablet to watch a TV series while playing a ga on his handheld console, already thinking about his next big plan.
