Check out my other novel Pokemon: A different ash (Also in patreon )
After finishing hot pot with Trevor, both of them headed ho. Before going back, Chris made a stop at the "breeding house" to arrange dedicated Pokémon rations for Torchic, Zigzagoon, and now Froakie.
The nearest breeding house was called "Pokeland."
With a na like that, Chris half expected to see Mareep or Houndour grazing nearby.
As he entered, he was greeted by a sweet-looking girl wearing a white turban and an apron with the breeding house's logo. "Welco! What can I help you with today?" she asked with a friendly smile.
"I'm here to buy so Pokémon rations. What are your prices?" Chris asked.
The girl introduced the options with a smile.
"Our Pokémon rations co in three tiers: low, dium, and high."
"Low-end rations are made based on your Pokémon's type. General-purpose rations are 200 Pokédollars per serving."
"Mid-range rations are species-specific, tailored to your Pokémon's species, and cost 1,000 Pokédollars per serving."
"For high-end rations, we'll have a professional interdiate breeder conduct individual assessnts of your Pokémon to create targeted rations. These range from 5,000 to 30,000 Pokédollars, depending on the specifics."
"How long does one serving last?" Chris asked, still processing the prices.
"One serving lasts for a week. We deliver fresh rations to your ho every morning, noon, and evening to ensure optimal nutrition," she explained.
Chris was ntally prepared for high prices, but hearing the numbers made him silently curse, "Is this a bit ridiculous?"
At four servings a month, mid-range rations would cost 4,000 Pokédollars a month—about the sa as the monthly salary of an ordinary worker. No wonder many people couldn't afford to raise multiple Pokémon.
And if you went for high-end rations with a full team of six Pokémon? Monthly costs could range from 120,000 to 720,000 Pokédollars. Only soone with a literal gold mine could afford that!
"Alright, let's go with high-end rations for both of my Pokémon," Chris said, casually deciding since, after all, he did have Zigzagoon—his personal treasure hunter.
However, this special treatnt would only extend to his main Pokémon. Zigzagoon would have to make do with low-end rations.
Zigzagoon: ???
"Please wait a mont while I call a breeder," the receptionist bead, clearly delighted by Chris's choice of high-end rations. She asked if he wanted tea, coffee, or juice before walking off in a hurry, heels clicking on the floor.
Two minutes later, a young woman, likely around Chris's age, appeared from the back of the store, carrying a cup of green tea. "Hello, sir! My na is Ava, and I'm a junior Pokémon breeder here. I'll be responsible for formulating the rations for your Pokémon. Could you please release them so I can take a look?"
Chris quickly released Torchic and Froakie.
"chic! o(^▽^)o" Torchic hopped around excitedly, full of energy as usual.
"froakie... ←_←"
Froakie, on the other hand, remained calm and composed, crossing its arms as it observed Torchic's lively behavior with a stern expression.
"Both of your Pokémon look fantastic!" Ava's eyes lit up as she began her assessnt.
"Torchic's feathers are soft, with a healthy glow. Its muscles are firm, and it's clearly full of energy and vitality. It must get plenty of daily exercise! You've clearly put a lot of effort into raising it," she praised, impressed by Torchic's condition.
"If you're looking to customize their rations, it'll depend on the direction you want to take their training. Do you want to focus on improving their speed, strength, or move power first?"
"This Froakie seems to have just been captured. Although it's physically strong, it has a lot of old wounds, likely from its ti living in the wild. Its hind legs are exceptionally powerful, and its speed is impressive," Ava observed.
"If you're customizing rations, I'd suggest starting with nourishnt to help it recover fully. Once it's in better shape, you can adjust its diet according to the direction you want to take with its training," she continued, offering sound breeder advice.
Her analysis was practical and straightforward, showing her deep knowledge as a breeder. Chris, anwhile, hadn't personally spent much ti on Torchic's care—it was Nurse Joy at the Pokémon Center who had handled that.
"Froakie's rations will follow your suggestion. As for Torchic, let's focus on building strength first," Chris said, thoughtfully considering his plan for both Pokémon. Their high individual values and strong species stats made this a solid approach.
"Just not sure about the price..."
"For Torchic, the cost will be 22,000 per serving, as it will include so rare berries."
"For Froakie, it will be 10,000 per serving. Pure and nourishing berries and ingredients are quite affordable right now."
"If you'd like, I can round down the total cost to 30,000," Ava offered, giving him a discount.
At 30,000 per serving, that would add up to 120,000 Pokédollars per month—a cost Chris could manage.
"Alright, let's go with that. I'll take two servings for each, plus ten low-end rations for Normal-type Pokémon."
"Very well. Please wait about half an hour while I prepare today's rations," Li Qianqian said as she stood up and left.
The clerk managing Chris's order soon ca over to swipe his card and took down his ho address for future deliveries.
Half an hour later, Chris received two large als made primarily of berries, with at and dicinal herbs as supplents.
Upon closer inspection, Chris realized that none of the ingredients were particularly rare or valuable. The 20,000 cost for Torchic's ration, calculated for a week, ant that the ingredients themselves were only worth about 10,000 at most—based on the current market price.
If the breeding house bought the ingredients wholesale, it would be even cheaper. The extra 10,000 must have gone toward the breeder's "consultation" and "matching" fees.
This realization only strengthened Chris's resolve to beco a breeder himself.
If even junior breeders earned this much, imagine the profits for interdiate, advanced, or master-level breeders!
