Basalt's face paled. The falling rocks were massive, each one like a stone pillar over a ter in diater. Compared to these, Excadrill's Rock Slide was child's play. He was sure that even Bronzong, with its "shield of the body," couldn't withstand an attack of this magnitude.

"Damn it! The female Tyranitar is on a rampage again!" Master Axel's face was grim. "Director, you provide cover. I'll take her on."

With that, he ordered his Claydol to shatter the nearby rock pillars with its psychic power. At the sa ti, the Director released another Pokémon to protect himself and Basalt.

"Whoa, a Chandelure," Basalt gasped. The Ghost/Fire-type was an incredibly rare and powerful Pokémon.

BOOM!

The battle on the ground began. Master Axel's Golurk descended from the sky and slamd its fist into the ground, unleashing a terrifying Earthquake that sent shockwaves rippling through the desert for hundreds of ters.

But the Desert Tyrant was not to be trifled with. With a re thought, the sand beneath it rose up, forming a platform that lifted it into the air, allowing it to easily avoid the Earthquake.

"It can do that?" Basalt stared, his mind blown. It wasn't a move, per se, but an advanced application of its Sand Stream ability, a deep-level manipulation of sand with its psychic power.

"When your control over an elent reaches a certain level," the Director said, noticing his surprise, "you are no longer bound by conventional moves. The moves are just the most efficient patterns that have been discovered over the centuries. Do not let them limit your thinking."

"So the mastery of energy is the true foundation," Basalt thought, a new understanding dawning on him.

"ROAR!"

The Tyranitar's furious roar shook the very foundations of the Hidden Land. This was a real, all-out battle between Masters. Just watching from a distance made Basalt's blood boil.

The female Tyranitar was clearly at the Master level, but it had not yet fully recovered from laying its eggs. It was at a disadvantage against the Golurk's close-range attacks, especially its super-effective Fighting-type moves.

"ROAR!"

Suddenly, the Tyranitar slamd its tail into the ground, arresting its retreat. It then unleashed a wave of black, malevolent energy from its mouth.

Dark Pulse.

Even from hundreds of ters away, Basalt felt a chill run down his spine. "If that were a white beam, it would be a dead ringer for Godzilla's atomic breath," he thought.

The super-effective Dark-type attack slamd into the Ghost-type Golurk, forcing it to one knee.

"Damn it! She was faking her weakness. She's recovered more than I thought," Master Axel cursed. He had no choice but to send out his Flygon.

But the mont it appeared, a massive, dark rock shot out from the depths of the Sandstorm and slamd into it, knocking it out of the sky before it even had a chance to move.

"Flygon!" Master Axel gasped, a cold dread washing over him. It was the male Tyranitar. If it decided to join the fight, they would be completely overwheld.

The male's figure was a vague, imposing shadow in the storm. But after taking out the Flygon, it did not attack again.

"It seems to be a warning against ganging up on its mate," the Director said, his brow furrowed in thought.

After a few more minutes of brutal, back-and-forth fighting, the Golurk finally fell. Master Axel then sent out his fourth Pokémon, a Torterra. It, too, was eventually taken down by a super-effective Ice Punch. The female Tyranitar was now heavily wounded, its stamina nearly depleted.

"Go, Seismitoad!" Axel sent out his fifth Pokémon.

"Hydro Pump!"

A jet of water, as thin as a laser but imbued with incredible power, shot from the Seismitoad's mouth. The Tyranitar erected a wall of rock with Stone Edge, but the Hydro Pump pierced through it as if it were paper and slamd into its erald-green armor, leaving a deep hole.

BOOM!

This ti, the female Tyranitar could not withstand the blow. It collapsed to the ground, unconscious.

"We won!" Basalt cheered.

But before they could celebrate, the male Tyranitar roared in fury and charged out from the depths of the desert, its eyes locked on the Seismitoad. It was even larger and more powerful than its mate. It was a true monster.

Before the Seismitoad could even react, the sand at its feet erupted, trapping it. A single Stone Edge, and it was on the brink of fainting. A follow-up Dark Pulse finished it off in less than ten seconds.

"ROAR!" The male Tyranitar roared in triumph, its presence so overwhelming that the Director's Tropius and Chandelure, and Axel's Claydol, all trembled in fear.

"Is this the power of an Elite-level Desert Tyrant?" Basalt thought, a cold sweat trickling down his forehead. "A Master-level Pokémon is like a child before it."

But fortunately, the male Tyranitar seed to only want to avenge its mate. After defeating the Seismitoad, it did not attack again. It dispelled the Sandstorm and cleared a path for them, though its gaze was as cold and emotionless as a desert stone. Only when it looked at its fallen mate did a flicker of warmth appear in its eyes.

Now, Basalt could finally see their destination: a large cave in a rocky outcropping about three kiloters away.

"Let's go, now, while the female is unconscious," Master Axel said, and they flew towards the cave.

The Larvitar egg was finally within his grasp.
