"Professor Sycamore!"
The voices of Ash and his three friends rang out across the courtyard of the research lab.
"Oh, it's you four—Ash, Serena, Clemont, Bonnie! Long ti no see. Weren't you heading over to Santalune City to challenge the Santalune Gym? Why are you back in Lumiose City?"
Professor Sycamore had just finished so work and was now sitting in the lab's main hall, pouring himself a cup of tea.
"Professor, we're on our way to Cyllage City now. Ash is going to challenge the Cyllage Gym, so we ca back from Santalune City to Lumiose City and thought we'd stop by to visit you."
Clemont and Bonnie began explaining.
"That's right, Professor Sycamore! I really like little Fennekin, so I made so snacks to share with everyone."
Serena took out the snacks, and Professor Sycamore graciously accepted them.
While everyone sat on the sofa enjoying the treats, they noticed a Chespin in the corner, staring fixedly at the snacks on the table.
"Ches~pin…"
The poor Chespin was practically drooling.
Clemont noticed first, and then Serena and the others caught on too.
"Here you go—it's fine, have so. There's plenty more."
Serena generously handed Chespin a few treats.
Just then, a loud explosion ca from the backyard of the lab—where many Pokémon were kept.
Ash activated his Aura Power to investigate, then shook his head with a sigh.
Team Rocket… He'd thought those three troublemakers would be staying put in the Unova region. Who would have guessed they had followed him all the way to Kalos?
"Pikachu, it's our old friends. I'll leave those three to you."
"Pika!"
Ash rubbed Pikachu's head, and Pikachu nodded.
In the backyard, Team Rocket's trio burst in with a truck—apparently out of options.
Originally, according to owth's plan, they were going to snatch Professor Sycamore first, then capture the Pokémon in the lab.
After that, they intended to collect the lab's Key Stones and ga Stones.
Finally, they'd force the captured Pokémon to ga Evolve using the professor's research data.
What they didn't realize was that ga Evolution requires a strong bond between trainer and Pokémon as a prerequisite.
Because Ash and his friends had arrived early, Professor Sycamore hadn't gone to the backyard yet. So Team Rocket simply drove their truck straight in, aiming to grab as many Pokémon as possible.
"Who are you people?!"
It was Clemont, Bonnie, and Serena's first ti seeing Team Rocket.
"ow-haha! Today, we return to our origins!"
"Since you ask so sincerely…"
"We'll answer with generosity!"
"To protect the world from devastation!"
"To unite all peoples within our nation!"
…
"Pikachu, Iron Tail—flip that truck."
"Pika!"
Pikachu's tail glead like steel and smashed into the truck's cargo bed.
CRACK! The truck split cleanly in half.
Jessie: "…"
Jas: "…"
owth: "…"
rciless.
Absolutely rciless!
We even went back to our original motto—couldn't they at least let us finish with so dignity?
Chespin, furious at seeing its beloved backyard wrecked, glared at the trio.
"Chespin! Ches!"
"What's that supposed to an, owth?"
"It says, 'This is where everyone lives! You've destroyed it! I'm really mad!' owth translation, at your service."
"Grr… Your Pokémon are my Pokémon! Go, Wobbuffet and Arbok!"
"Inkay, Weezing—let's go!"
"Pika…CHU!"
Pikachu let out a massive Discharge, instantly paralyzing Inkay, Wobbuffet, Arbok, and Weezing.
Even Wobbuffet, trying to counter with Counter, couldn't withstand Pikachu's sheer power—level 89 was just too much to handle.
"We're joining the battle too!"
"Bonnie wants in as well!"
Serena, Bonnie, Clemont, and the other Pokémon in the lab all turned to face Team Rocket.
"Uh… heh… Let's talk this out. No need to glare like that…"
"Yeah… no need for violence, right, owth?"
"Chespin!"
"Fennekin!"
"Froakie!"
"Bunnelby!"
The Pokémon all attacked at once, skills flying in every direction.
BOOM!
In a huge explosion, Team Rocket went flying into the sky.
All that lingered in the air was their familiar cry: "Looks like Team Rocket's blasting off again!"
With the crisis resolved, everyone pitched in to help repair the damage to the lab's walls.
By late morning, Clemont had grown fond of the snack-loving Chespin—and Chespin felt the sa way.
Seeing this, Professor Sycamore suggested that Chespin accompany Clemont on his journey.
…And so, Clemont officially caught Chespin.
After lunch, the four of them set off once again toward Cyllage City.
At the sa ti, back to the mont Team Rocket was sent flying—
Their cry echoed in the sky as Jessie, Jas, owth, and their four Pokémon hurtled through the air, eventually falling toward a forest.
Because so many Pokémon had attacked at once, Jessie and Jas—being human and heavier—were separated from their Pokémon during the fall.
Jessie and Jas landed in the eastern part of the forest, crashing into a tall tree before tumbling into a patch of grass and passing out.
Arbok and Weezing, both long-ti companions, were lucky enough to land together.
Inkay and Wobbuffet splashed down into a shallow stream—Wobbuffet wobbling back and forth with a "So-naaance, so-naaance," even though the water barely reached up to a third of its height.
owth, on the other hand, wasn't so lucky—he crash-landed directly onto a Pangoro.
anwhile, Ash and his friends had entered another forest on their way to Cyllage City.
But they soon stopped in their tracks.
Standing in front of them were… two Pancham.
